## Email signup popup tools, compared

An email signup popup exchanges a clear offer for an address. That offer might be a discount, a downloadable guide, early access or entry into a prize campaign. The form is only one part of the product: audience rules decide who sees it, validation affects the submitted data and the integration decides what happens to the contact.

This guide compares email capture across those uses. It is separate from our newsletter selection, which focuses on an ongoing publication and its subscription journey. The ranking is shared because both use the lead-collection profile; the product discussion here concentrates on incentives, data quality and the route from a visitor’s response to a usable lead.

| Tool | Lead-collection score / 100 | Papa pick / month |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [1\. Getsitecontrol](#getsitecontrol) | 79.14 | $19.00 |
| [2\. Klaviyo](#klaviyo) | 77.18 | $20.00 |
| [3\. Privy](#privy) | 73.92 | $30.00 |
| [4\. OptiMonk](#optimonk) | 69.73 | $29.00 |
| [5\. Poptin](#poptin) | 68.33 | $25.00 |
| [6\. Sleeknote](#sleeknote) | 62.80 | $69.00 |
| [7\. Poper](#poper) | 60.46 | $19.00 |
| [8\. Justuno](#justuno) | 59.90 | $59.00 |

Papa pick is a representative selected plan. Email sending, games, advanced branches and contact capacity may have separate terms; the price is not a quote for every campaign described below.

## What puts a tool higher on this list?

Popup Papa tests popup software and examines product documentation, pricing and published use cases. We assess tools against the same criteria, then give different capabilities more weight for different tasks. The numbers below are absolute scores: they do not depend on which other app a tool is compared with.

Forms, games, targeting and integrations share 70% of the lead-collection score. Forms collect and validate details; games can make a reward part of the invitation; targeting selects the audience; integrations deliver the result. The remaining 30% reflects the wider toolkit. A larger game catalogue does not earn unlimited points: the shared model caps that contribution.

The list includes the eight highest-scoring tools with confirmed email capture. Their scores describe product capabilities across the assessed toolkit, not the inclusion of every feature in an entry plan. They also do not predict conversion rates. Price, email volume and plan restrictions are discussed separately from the score.

Getsitecontrol’s email forms can collect more than an address without putting every question on the first screen. Multi-step layouts and conditional fields support a simple first invitation followed by relevant details. A campaign can collect a product interest or another qualification answer, then carry it into the destination system through field mapping.

Its form controls include consent, hidden values and validation, with CAPTCHA and advanced logic on Pro. These solve different problems: validating an input helps with its format, while screening suspicious submissions helps with automated traffic. Targeting and frequency controls determine which visitors receive the offer and how often it returns. Games add another way to present a reward within the same lead-collection toolkit.

Getsitecontrol can send email itself or pass contacts to another platform. That flexibility suits a site that wants capture and follow-up together as well as one keeping Mailchimp, Klaviyo or a CRM. The paid plan includes the full widget feature set, but email sends cost extra and subscriptions are per site. Its lead score reflects the breadth of forms, games and audience controls rather than a promise that a more complex form converts better.

### Plan to compare

Pro unlocks the full feature set and removes branding. Pro Max adds unlimited widget views and a lower email sending rate, rather than more features.

$19.00 / month · 100,000 widget views per site · Email sends extra

Klaviyo makes the popup part of a customer-profile system. An email submitted to a signup form goes into a selected list and can enter a welcome flow. Answers and consent choices become profile properties, so the same record can support later segmentation and email campaigns. It is a particularly direct route when Klaviyo already handles the business’s marketing.

Forms can have several screens, required fields and custom error messages. Audience rules can recognise existing profiles and use list or segment membership, while traffic-source and UTM conditions distinguish campaign audiences. That allows a paid-ad offer to differ from a general website invitation without creating a separate contact database. Recognition still depends on the visitor being identifiable.

Klaviyo’s form experiments support multiple variations, adjustable traffic shares and automatic winner selection. Signup forms are available on Free and paid email plans; the bill grows with active profiles and channel usage. This is therefore a different cost structure from a popup-only app charging for website traffic. The capture tools are part of the email platform, not an independent flat-price lead-generation subscription.

### Plan to compare

The paid Email tier makes sense as the list outgrows Free or requires more sending capacity. Do not upgrade just for a popup: Free already includes signup forms and automation within its limits.

[Full scoring details in the review](https://popuppapa.com/reviews/privy/index.md#capability-score)

Privy connects popup capture with email and SMS campaigns for stores. A multi-step display can begin with a question, collect an email and continue to a separate phone opt-in. Those stages let the campaign distinguish an email signup from a second channel permission rather than treating a phone number as automatic SMS consent.

Signup restrictions can limit a campaign to new contacts or one submission per contact. Audience conditions include browsing history, traffic source and custom contact fields, with Shopify adding cart and purchase context. These controls are useful for incentive campaigns where an existing customer should not repeatedly claim a new-subscriber offer. Display A/B tests can compare variants with configurable traffic ratios.

Privy can deliver contacts to other email platforms, but custom properties rely on matching internal names instead of a visual field mapper. Its popup-only offer and its combined email package serve different setups. The latter includes follow-up in the same product; the former makes more sense when another service remains responsible for delivery. The review separates traffic allowances from mailable-contact and SMS limits.

### Plan to compare

Email + SMS is the pick when you want capture and follow-up in one product. The popup-only subscription is cheaper if another service already handles email.

$30.00 / month · 1,500 mailable contacts · Unlimited emails · 250 SMS credits · Extra SMS credits billed separately

OptiMonk provides multi-page signup campaigns with audience rules and experiments around the form. A first question can establish interest before the email screen, and button actions can move to the next or a selected page. Fields can be mapped into a destination list and provider fields, so a qualification answer can travel with the captured address.

Traffic-source, UTM and landing-page rules help match an incentive to the campaign that brought the visitor. Connections can also support subscriber-aware targeting, while Shopify adds cart and customer conditions. Games such as wheels and scratch cards give the reward a different presentation, but the email destination remains a separate part of the setup.

A notable experiment option is a no-popup control group. This compares a campaign against visitors who receive no popup, rather than only comparing two designs. Free already includes the feature set and branding removal in the current offer; paid plans expand traffic, domains and AI credits. The allowance counts site pageviews even when a narrowly targeted form is not shown.

### Plan to compare

Essential adds capacity and a second domain. Free already includes all features and no branding; upgrade for traffic, domains or AI credits rather than feature access.

Poptin combines email inputs with validation options, consent fields and hidden values. Email format checks and common-typo handling can improve the submitted address, while a business-email restriction serves a more specific B2B lead-generation use case. These controls are not interchangeable: rejecting personal domains is inappropriate for many consumer offers.

Its forms can add choices or written answers to the email request, and campaigns can use audience conditions and A/B tests. Shopify-specific rules include cart and customer context, with order history requiring an upgrade. Game formats provide another way to introduce an incentive, while connected email services can receive the resulting contacts.

Poptin offers both popup-only subscriptions and an email bundle. The popup-only Free and Basic plans use visitor allowances, while Growth adds contact capacity and email functionality. This creates two different upgrade paths: more onsite traffic or a broader capture-and-follow-up package. The selected Basic price should not be read as the only plan capable of collecting email.

### Plan to compare

Basic is our popup-only pick for one unbranded site with up to 10,000 visitors. For up to 5,000 visitors, also compare Growth: the 500-contact option is $19/month and includes unlimited domains, email and user management.

Sleeknote’s regular campaigns support multiple form screens, success steps and consent checkboxes. Its targeting can distinguish referral sources, UTM parameters, cookies and new visitors. This makes it suitable for running several lead offers on the same site, such as a first-visit incentive and a different invitation for visitors who have read a particular topic.

Its quiz tools can map question names and answer values to destination fields. An email signup can therefore include preferences or qualification details that remain usable after the campaign closes. A/B tests allow traffic allocation between campaigns, and a connected email service handles the contact’s later messages. The popup and the follow-up remain linked through that destination.

Sleeknote separates the Core campaign package from Games. That matters for a wheel or scratch-led acquisition plan: the standard subscription does not automatically include the reward mechanics. Core includes unlimited domains with a shared traffic allowance. The review also explains the distinction between the advertised visitor terminology and the session-based description in its cookie documentation.

### Plan to compare

Core covers regular campaigns and testing across multiple domains. The Games package is an additional purchase; choose it only for game-based campaigns.

[Full scoring details in the review](https://popuppapa.com/reviews/poper/index.md#capability-score)

Poper gives games a prominent role in email capture. Its Plinko editor includes an email gate, individual prizes, losing outcomes and probability controls. Repeat-play limits and reward-email settings turn the game into a lead offer with rules, rather than a decorative animation placed beside a form. Other game formats broaden the campaign options.

Regular popups also support multiple steps and repeat-display settings. The integration catalogue includes Mailchimp, Klaviyo and HubSpot, but connections require a paid plan. That restriction is central to a lead-generation workflow: access to a free game does not by itself provide automated delivery into the mailing list or CRM used by the business.

Pro combines games, testing and integrations with multiple sites and seats. More advanced branching belongs to Business. The selected price is promotional, and the account uses different traffic labels in billing and usage. Poper’s place in the lead ranking reflects its game range as well as forms and targeting; the buying decision still depends on the integration and plan required for the chosen campaign.

### Plan to compare

Pro combines A/B testing, games, advanced targeting and integrations. Business lists conditional branching and the survey suite. Free allowed one game in our account, but connecting integrations required an upgrade.

[Full scoring details in the review](https://popuppapa.com/reviews/justuno/index.md#capability-score)

Justuno places signup forms inside visual workflows. Enrollment rules can combine profile properties, segments, browsing and purchase activity, then If/Then branches route visitors through different paths. This suits lead programmes where the offer depends on what the visitor has already done, rather than one universal welcome popup.

Email controls include required input, prefilling, invalid-address handling and duplicate restrictions. Typo suggestions and free-domain restrictions are separate options, and advanced verification checks with the receiving mail server. Verification is not a guarantee that every address is reachable: some servers do not answer those requests. The distinction is important when interpreting rejected or unresolved inputs.

A/B and multivariate paths allow experiments within the workflow system. Plan limits include active workflows and custom segments as well as traffic and seats, so campaign complexity can affect the subscription choice. Justuno’s differentiator here is the combination of routing and detailed input controls. It is a broader workflow tool, rather than simply an email box added to a page.

### Plan to compare

Lite suits a team running a few campaigns itself: ten seats and five live workflows. Choose a higher offer for more workflow capacity or managed implementation, not simply to start using the editor.

## Campaigns in practice

These vendor-published campaigns illustrate different exchanges for an email address. Their results use different audiences and time periods, so they are examples of execution rather than comparable benchmarks.

### Kern River Outfitters: a useful resource before a booking

Getsitecontrol’s rafting-company case describes a guide offered through a slide-in, triggered after five seconds or 60% scroll and suppressed for 30 days. It reports a 2.26% email capture rate. The offer gives someone planning a trip a useful next step before they are ready to book.

[Kern River Outfitters case](https://getsitecontrol.com/blog/customer-case-study-kern-river-outfitters/)

### Pots, Planters & More: a question before the email

OptiMonk describes a campaign that first separated personal and business shoppers, then collected an email and showed a coupon. It reports more than 5,000 leads in under ten months. The first answer supplies context for the contact; it is more than an extra screen before the same undifferentiated signup.

[Pots, Planters & More case](https://www.optimonk.com/pots-planters-more-case-study)

### Monis: email first, SMS as a second decision

Sleeknote’s Monis case uses a wheel-led email offer followed by a separate SMS permission step connected to Klaviyo. The reported 80–90% second-step uptake concerns new subscribers reaching that stage, not all website visitors. The campaign illustrates how one offer can lead into another permission without treating the two conversions as identical.

[Monis email and SMS case](https://sleeknote.com/success-stories/monis)

### Børsen: an offer tied to the page topic

Børsen used a sustainability masterclass as an email offer on relevant pages, with scheduling and rules excluding logged-in users. Sleeknote reports a 3.95% new-visitor-to-email-subscriber rate for the publisher. The case shows a content-led exchange rather than a retail coupon or generic newsletter request.

## How these tools differ

### The offer can be a file, a benefit or a game

Klaviyo and Privy connect capture directly to email delivery, while OptiMonk and Sleeknote can feed an existing sending platform. Poper’s game catalogue and Getsitecontrol’s combined form-and-game controls add another route: the visitor participates in a reward mechanic before or alongside the signup.

These are different campaign experiences. A download promises a specific resource, a coupon promises a purchase benefit and a game promises a chance or outcome. The form builder, reward rules and follow-up system each need to support the chosen exchange.

### Input checks do not all prove the same thing

Poptin and Justuno distinguish format or typo controls from restrictions on particular email domains. Justuno also offers mail-server verification. Getsitecontrol, Klaviyo and Privy have bot-protection controls. A CAPTCHA screens the submission source; it does not prove ownership of the address entered.

Double opt-in asks the recipient to confirm through their inbox. That is a different stage from preventing malformed input in the popup. A programme can use both, but the popup submission count and the confirmed-subscriber count will then describe different events.

[Email connection details](https://popuppapa.com/popup-integrations/index.md)

### Questions before and after the address

A multi-step form can put a preference question before the email field or request it afterward. OptiMonk, Privy and Klaviyo support multiple screens; Getsitecontrol and Justuno add more conditional routing. Poper’s advanced branching has a separate tier restriction.

The order affects which data exists when someone leaves halfway through. A successful email step and an unfinished later question should not be described as a fully completed qualification journey. The destination service also needs to receive the fields that were actually collected.

### New contacts and existing subscribers

Privy’s signup restrictions and Justuno’s duplicate controls address repeated submissions. Klaviyo can use recognised profiles and list membership, while OptiMonk can target using connected subscriber context. These are more specific than hiding a popup for a fixed number of days after closure.

Recognition is not universal. Cookies, login state and the connected profile determine what the app knows. An existing subscriber on a new device may look new, so a new-subscriber offer and an eligibility check are separate parts of the campaign.

### A connector needs to carry the useful fields

Getsitecontrol and OptiMonk provide mapping; Sleeknote maps quiz question and answer values; Privy uses matching internal property names. A generic “Mailchimp integration” label does not describe those differences.

For a simple email-only form, the list destination may be enough. A lead form collecting company size, interest or consent needs those values to survive the handoff. This is where a more flexible form is useful only if the integration can deliver its output.

[Mailchimp connections](https://popuppapa.com/mailchimp-popup-integrations/index.md) · [Klaviyo connections](https://popuppapa.com/klaviyo-popup-integrations/index.md)

### Lead capture and email marketing have different cost drivers

Klaviyo grows with active profiles and channel usage. Getsitecontrol prices popup views per site and bills email sends separately. Privy has popup-only and combined offers, while Poptin adds an email bundle alongside its visitor-based popup plans.

A paid popup does not necessarily include sending the promised welcome message, and an email subscription may already include the form. The comparison table keeps a consistent selected-plan reference, while each review explains the actual allowances and upgrade boundaries.

## Six parts of an email capture setup

The visible form is only part of the transaction. These settings determine what is saved and delivered.

1. 01Destination list. A contact can exist in the platform without joining the list that starts the intended welcome flow.
2. 02Field mapping. Choice values and hidden campaign context need stable destination fields.
3. 03Validation. Format, typo checks, domain restrictions and verification solve different problems.
4. 04Consent. Email and SMS permissions belong to their respective channels and should remain distinguishable.
5. 05Reward delivery. Showing a code in a success step differs from sending it later by email.
6. 06Repeat handling. Existing contacts, repeated submissions and repeat game plays need their own rules.

## Common questions

What is the best email signup popup tool?

Getsitecontrol leads this lead-collection ranking, followed by Klaviyo and Privy. The order reflects forms, games, targeting and integrations rather than measured signup rates. Klaviyo may be the most direct choice for an existing Klaviyo account; a separate popup tool can add a different form, game or audience capability.

What is the difference between email signup and newsletter popup tools?

Email signup includes downloads, incentives, competitions and other reasons to share an address. A newsletter popup promises recurring content. The same tools can serve both, but the offer, consent wording, welcome message and ongoing subscription are different.

[Compare newsletter signup tools](https://popuppapa.com/best-newsletter-popup-tools/index.md)

Can these popup apps send leads to Mailchimp?

Several can. The differences include list selection, groups, custom fields and how the app sends consent or subscription status. A connector should be evaluated against the fields collected by the form, not only the presence of the Mailchimp logo.

[Compare Mailchimp integrations](https://popuppapa.com/mailchimp-popup-integrations/index.md)

Can an email popup collect SMS subscribers too?

Some tools support a separate phone step and SMS opt-in controls. Collecting a phone number alone does not establish SMS marketing permission. Privy and Klaviyo combine channel data with their wider marketing platforms; other tools deliver it to an external destination.

Do spin-to-win popups improve email capture?

They provide a different incentive and can increase participation in a particular campaign, but results depend on the audience and reward. The ranking credits confirmed game capabilities without treating a game as guaranteed uplift. Prize rules, repeated plays and contact delivery remain important differences between products.

Which tools check email addresses?

Poptin has format, typo and business-address controls. Justuno also provides mail-server verification. CAPTCHA and double opt-in are separate: the first screens suspicious submissions, while the second asks the mailbox recipient to confirm. No single label means all these checks are included.

Is free email signup popup software enough?

It can be, especially when the email platform already includes forms. The limits may concern traffic, active contacts, live campaigns or integrations. A free game with a paid connector is not the same offer as a free form already connected to a mailing list.

Should email capture use exit intent?

Exit intent is one way to reach a visitor who has not yet subscribed. It can complement an earlier invitation, but existing-subscriber and repeat-display rules matter. Mobile triggers should be evaluated separately because touch browsing has no desktop cursor leaving the page.
