Klaviyo vs OptinMonster.
Native signup forms or a separate capture tool?

Compare Klaviyo vs OptinMonster: popup forms, targeting, games, integrations, pricing and task-based ratings. See the differences that affect your campaign.

What do you need your website to do next?

Klaviyo and OptinMonster overlap at the signup form, but are not equivalent marketing platforms. Klaviyo stores subscriber profiles and sends email and SMS. OptinMonster builds onsite campaigns that pass captured leads to a connected service, which may itself be Klaviyo.

For a store already using Klaviyo, the comparison is often whether an additional capture layer adds something useful. Klaviyo’s forms use list and segment context, and its experiments can compare multiple variants. OptinMonster brings a separate campaign editor, tiered display rules and site-level publishing roles.

Costs need the same boundary. A Klaviyo subscription can pay for profile and sending capacity even when forms are included. An OptinMonster subscription adds another bill without removing the sending platform. The feature tables make that distinction visible instead of comparing the two headline fees as substitutes.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

Klaviyo focuses its onsite editor on signup forms, including popup, flyout and embedded layouts. Mobile settings adapt the signup experience to smaller screens. OptinMonster includes floating bars and animated lightboxes, with countdowns and dynamic Smart Tags on Pro. Its operational-notice examples use messages with buttons, a useful format when an update has a destination.

Forms

Klaviyo forms write into the profile used by later messages. OptinMonster’s connector sends data to that destination, making provider setup and field mapping another part of the workflow. Klaviyo collects email, phone, text, radio, dropdown and checkbox answers across multiple steps. Consent and hidden properties attach to the profile. Phone-format checks, CAPTCHA and double opt-in help protect the list; mobile tap-to-text provides another SMS signup route.

OptinMonster connects email capture to an external email provider. Plus adds two-step Yes/No campaigns, letting a visitor express interest before seeing the signup form. The second screen changes the route into the form; it is separate from custom-field mapping, input validation and answer-dependent branching.

Gamification

Klaviyo offers a spin-to-win block with two to six slices. Each slice has a probability, success step and coupon. The signup can sit before or alongside the spin. This establishes a configurable wheel, not a library of scratch cards, calendars or outcome quizzes. OptinMonster places gamified wheels on Growth. That establishes a spin-to-win format at a higher tier than the selected Pro plan. The existence of the wheel does not establish a scratch card, seasonal calendar or the same reward-probability controls as another product.

Targeting

Klaviyo’s list and segment context is useful for recognized subscribers. OptinMonster supplies a separate set of campaign display rules with tier restrictions. Klaviyo combines URL, UTM, device and location rules with lists and customer segments. Delay, scroll, exit and click triggers control the opening moment. Frequency settings limit repeat appearances, and form priorities decide which queued campaign appears first.

OptinMonster distributes targeting controls across paid tiers. Scheduling and advanced campaign controls are part of Pro, while geolocation requires Growth. This makes the combination of conditions important: a regional promotion with a fixed launch period needs the tier covering both the location and schedule.

Experiments

Klaviyo supports multiple form variants and automatic winner selection. OptinMonster’s A/B entitlement starts on Plus but should not be assumed to include equivalent winner or traffic controls. Klaviyo tests up to seven form variations, divides traffic evenly or by configured weights, and supports automatic winner selection. Results include revenue per variation. A test between form designs does not itself establish a no-form control group. OptinMonster includes A/B testing from Plus. A team can compare popup designs without buying Growth solely for experiments. Automatic winner selection, adjustable traffic allocation and a no-popup control are separate criteria; the A/B-testing label alone does not establish them.

Email & SMS

Klaviyo is the sending platform in this pair. OptinMonster complements an email provider rather than replacing it. A Klaviyo signup can enter a welcome flow from a list. Flows also respond to segments, events and dates, with delays and conditional paths for later messages. Broadcasts, segmentation, email and SMS belong to the same platform; profiles and sending allowances determine the bill.

OptinMonster passes captured leads to a connected email platform. That platform owns broadcasts, subscriber segmentation and welcome sequences. The popup subscription and the sending subscription therefore remain separate parts of the budget, even when the integration creates a smooth signup journey.

Team & sites

Klaviyo provides predefined and custom roles, with separate responsibilities for content, analysis and account management. Owners and Admins can edit billing. An activity log records changes, and Portfolio groups accounts; that grouping is not a promise of one subscription for every website. OptinMonster Pro adds Viewer, Author and Manager subaccounts assigned to sites and folders. Authors cannot publish, and access to leads or saved assets can be granted separately. These controls provide a concrete division between drafting a campaign and making it live for visitors.

Developer

Klaviyo’s REST API can create, update and publish forms, with reporting endpoints for performance. Browser events connect forms to site code. Its MCP server exposes campaigns, flows, profiles and reporting with scope restrictions; flow webhooks send custom payloads to an endpoint. OptinMonster Pro includes webhooks for lead delivery. A webhook connects captured data to another workflow; it should not be treated as an interface for an external agent to build or activate campaigns.

Support

Klaviyo’s paid plans include email and live chat support, with availability depending on the plan and day. Free accounts receive email support for the first 60 days, then rely on self-service and AI-assisted help. OptinMonster advertises human support. The channel, availability and assistance included with a selected subscription should be distinguished from managed campaign work. A support promise is not a guarantee of a particular response time or round-the-clock live chat.

Data & reporting

Klaviyo reports submissions and revenue following form interactions, including revenue by test variation. Submitters can be grouped into a segment and exported. Custom reports can run on weekly or monthly schedules, and reporting APIs support external analysis. OptinMonster’s campaign comparison and integration routes support evaluating capture campaigns. A signup total is different from downstream purchase value or email engagement. The scored reporting rows distinguish confirmed analytics and export operations from capabilities that remain unconfirmed; a connector does not establish a native reporting API.

Integrations

The OptinMonster-to-Klaviyo connection requires Pro or higher. Its existence is useful when adding a capture layer, but is not a reason to buy a second product for a form the existing stack already supplies. Klaviyo stores signups in its own profiles and sends its own email and SMS. Its marketplace connects stores, CRMs, review and loyalty systems, advertising tools and automation services. A flow can POST a webhook payload; that route is different from a dedicated form-submission webhook.

OptinMonster gates integration access by plan. HubSpot, Klaviyo, Zapier, webhooks and delivery to multiple providers are documented on Pro or higher. A simple email-list connection and a workflow sending the same response to several systems can therefore require different subscriptions.

Shopify

Klaviyo connects Shopify customers, products, orders and events to profiles and flows. Forms can target cart conditions and customer segments, including tags and order history. Unique Shopify coupons support signup incentives and automatic application at checkout; product data also powers follow-up emails. Installing a popup on a Shopify storefront is separate from reading its cart, generating a discount or adding a product. OptinMonster’s general lead-generation offer should be evaluated against the specific store operations in the table. Unconfirmed cart and coupon capabilities do not become supported merely because a campaign can appear on a store.

Pricing

Compare Klaviyo alone with Klaviyo plus OptinMonster when that is the actual setup. Substituting OptinMonster’s popup fee for Klaviyo’s profile and sending fee would understate the total. Klaviyo charges for active profiles and email volume rather than pageviews. Free covers 250 profiles and 500 monthly emails. The first paid email tier costs $20 for up to 500 profiles and 5,000 emails; removing form branding requires paid access. SMS has separate pricing.

OptinMonster Pro is advertised at a first-year equivalent of $37 per month, billed annually, for 25,000 campaign impressions and three sites. Renewal is $870 per year, or $72.50 per month on an equivalent basis. Growth is a higher tier for geolocation and wheels; Plus can cover simpler A/B-tested capture campaigns.

The final score

Klaviyo is the natural starting point for a business already using its profiles, segments and message flows. OptinMonster is an additional capture option when its editor, display controls or publishing roles meet a specific need. The relevant cost is then the combined stack, not a choice between two interchangeable email subscriptions.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to Klaviyo and OptinMonster in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
