Poptin vs Picreel.
Contact controls or a compact popup setup?

Compare Poptin vs Picreel: popup forms, targeting, games, integrations, pricing and task-based ratings. See the differences that affect your campaign.

What do you need your website to do next?

Poptin and Picreel can both present an offer and collect an email address. Their differences grow when the response needs validation, reusable contact properties, reporting or follow-up. Poptin extends the capture step into a contact-and-email workflow through Growth.

Picreel’s entry offer uses pageviews and annual billing. Poptin’s popup subscriptions use visitors to installed pages, while Growth has its own contact model. A larger allowance number therefore does not automatically mean more usable campaign capacity.

The comparison also covers game access, account structure and experiments. Picreel exposes some capabilities through higher tiers or trials, whereas Poptin’s agency subaccounts and reporting controls provide a more explicit route for teams managing several campaigns.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor. Picreel builds promotional and lead-capture campaigns with animated entrances. Business adds countdowns and gamification. A message with a destination button can announce an update without requiring an email signup.

Forms

Poptin’s typed properties and email-address restrictions offer more control over the resulting contact record. Picreel’s ordinary fields cover a simpler capture brief. Poptin offers name, email, phone, message, location, birthday and email-consent fields. Properties can use radio buttons, single-select controls and hidden values, with custom text, number, date, boolean and multiple-value properties. Email checks include format, typos and business-address rules. Double opt-in can inherit the account setting or be configured for the form. Picreel provides phone, written-answer, choice, consent and hidden inputs. Its practical role is a straightforward lead form rather than a full contact-and-follow-up workspace.

Surveys

Poptin can collect customer answers through form fields. Dedicated feedback ratings and quiz formats are evaluated separately from ordinary signup questions. Picreel forms include written answers, radio buttons and dropdowns. These can capture a preference during signup, but do not by themselves establish a recommendation quiz, score calculation or branching survey.

Gamification

Poptin provides several game journeys and prize controls. Picreel places gamification in Business, so its entry plan should not be used as the price of a game campaign. Poptin provides wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include prize labels, coupon codes, relative weights, losing outcomes and redirects. Weights of 2:1:1 displayed as 50%, 25% and 25%. Separate teaser, play, post-play, winning and losing screens give you control over the journey. The scratch setup we used revealed a fixed offer. Picreel places games on Business. Compare game selection and prize controls with that tier rather than the Essentials entry offer.

Targeting

Poptin includes delay, exit intent, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers. Manual triggers fire when the first selected condition is met. Device, URL, country, frequency and schedules provide the basic audience controls. JavaScript, Autopilot, previous-page, cookie and other advanced conditions can require a paid plan. Picreel provides URL inclusion and exclusion, device and country rules, new or returning visitor conditions and cookies. Exit, delay, scroll and CSS-selector clicks control the opening moment, with repeat display from once to monthly.

Experiments

Poptin groups variants into a dashboard test. Picreel’s trial supports tests, but conflicting public tier descriptions leave ongoing access a separate buying question. Poptin creates an A/B variant from a completed campaign and groups the designs in one dashboard test. This is useful for comparing a headline, incentive or layout without managing two unrelated campaigns. The A/B command becomes available after the initial campaign setup. Picreel’s trial lets you select two to five campaigns for a comparison test. Its public Free overview and paid tier descriptions disagree on access, with the detailed list placing A/B testing in Enterprise.

Email & SMS

Poptin Growth combines captured contacts with email campaigns and automations. Its canvas supports a confirmed-subscription trigger, source filters, Yes/No conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. Retrigger controls help manage repeat entry. The email editor includes columns, text, images, buttons, HTML, coupons and reusable blocks. Picreel sends captured leads to external email services, so the chosen destination is part of the workflow.

Team & sites

Poptin’s subaccounts provide a concrete organization model for client work. Domain allowances alone do not establish equivalent client separation in Picreel. Poptin exposes users, subaccounts and account- or subaccount-scoped API keys. Its Users screen describes broad editing, deletion and billing access, while seat availability depends on the offer. On Agency, sub-account users cannot open Billing and Plans. Treat the user allowance and the popup-domain allowance as separate plan details. Picreel Business lists five domains and unlimited users. A user allowance does not describe publishing permissions or client isolation.

Developer

Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint. Picreel provides a Webhook integration for lead delivery, while its published Enterprise offer lists API access and callbacks. Match the required operation to the plan; sending a lead is different from creating a campaign externally.

Data & reporting

Poptin reports visitors, views and conversions, with email reporting in the email product. Scheduled lead and statistics reports include recipient, subaccount, interval and timezone settings. Its reporting API is useful when you want to bring results into an external dashboard or an agent workflow. Picreel documents a Google Analytics connection. Integrations

Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, with Make and Zapier for additional workflows. Slack supports team notifications, and a webhook route can forward submissions. Its REST API offers another route to contacts and reporting. A store can therefore keep its existing email platform rather than moving to Poptin Growth. Picreel lists email platforms, HubSpot and Salesforce, with Zapier extending the available destinations; Enterprise lists API access, callbacks and webhooks.

Shopify

Poptin has a native Shopify app. Cart item count, cart value, specific products, customer tags and login status can shape the audience. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Shopify cart triggers and post-purchase automations can start the next interaction. Popup buttons offer Add to cart. Coupon setup supports fixed codes and imported unique-code lists, including CSV and fallback codes. These controls suit targeted capture and straightforward cart offers. Picreel’s general capture features do not establish cart and customer operations. A store offer that needs more than contact collection should follow the individual store checks.

Pricing

Compare annual commitment, branding fees and feature tier as well as capacity. Poptin visitors and Picreel pageviews measure different activity. Poptin’s monthly popup plans are Basic at $25 for 10,000 visitors and one domain, Pro at $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains, and Agency at $119 for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains. Growth uses a separate contact-and-email model: the $19 bracket covers 500 contacts and 5,000 visitors, with unlimited emails and domains. Visitor allowances count visitors to installed pages, not just popup viewers. Picreel Essentials advertises $9.99 per month billed annually for 50,000 pageviews and one domain; Business is $39.99 for 200,000 pageviews and five domains. Branding removal is a separate $300 per year.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to Poptin and Picreel in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
