Alia vs Personizely.
Two ways to test a store offer
Compare Alia and Personizely for Shopify opt-ins, prize wheels, widget experiments, agent access and visitor-based pricing.
What do you need your website to do next?
A shopper spins for a discount, gives an email address and adds an item to the cart. Alia and Personizely can both build parts of that journey. The buying decision depends on which part the store wants to improve: the invitation and its reward, or what happens across the storefront after the shopper responds.
Alia puts signup experiments, prize mechanics and reward delivery together. Personizely connects its widgets to broader store experiments and can act on products in the cart. The difference is especially visible to a team that already has a working welcome flow and wants to test what happens after the signup.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
Alia combines popup steps, a teaser and text variables. A reward screen can display a different message depending on the offer a shopper earned. Personizely offers popups, compact callouts, bars and embedded widgets. A coupon can be copied with a click, and text can use a visitor property with a fallback for anonymous traffic.

Forms
A signup can start with an optional preference question and continue to an email field. In our storefront preview, Skip advanced to the email step. A malformed address and an unchecked required consent box each prevented submission. A widget can collect a phone number, free text, single or multiple selections and separate consent choices. Responses are stored on visitor profiles, where a later submission may update a previous answer.

Surveys
Mini quizzes record answers on the visitor profile, and different answers can lead to different steps. This is useful when a welcome email should feature the topic a shopper chose. Personizely supports NPS survey popups and preference questions. The widget contact export includes respondents who supplied an email or phone. It can therefore contain fewer rows than an anonymous survey received.

Gamification
Alia includes a wheel, scratch reveal, mystery box, pick-a-card and Plinko. Wheel and Plinko offer outcome probabilities, so a merchant can control how often the most expensive prize appears. The prize wheel has weighted segments, retry and no-prize outcomes. Each segment can open a different reward step or start an automation.

Targeting
Use market, geography, cookies or audience segments to choose eligible visitors. Delay, exit and scroll control when the invitation appears. A separate interval suppresses a second popup shortly after another one was viewed. Rules cover URLs, subdomains, time windows and repeat exposure. A widget can open after inactivity or a hover, and stop appearing after a conversion.

Experiments
For a team that wants proposed signup variants to review, Alia offers Smart Testing. For one comparing a popup alongside broader store changes, Personizely Premium brings widget experiments into the same testing platform. Smart Testing can generate variants, queue them and select a winner. The operator reviews candidate changes before starting the test. The vendor describes this workflow across plans. Premium includes A/B testing of widgets. Essential includes other kinds of website tests, so access to a theme or URL test alone does not establish that a popup can be split-tested on that tier.

Email & SMS
Alia captures email and SMS opt-ins. In its Klaviyo connection the reward can travel with the email submission, so the welcome flow can deliver it even if the shopper closes the final screen. A form can write contact and consent fields to a visitor profile and send the contact to a connected email platform. The welcome sequence depends on how that destination uses the fields.

Team & sites
Staff can receive personal logins. An agency can also connect its organization to a store as Viewer, Editor or Admin. A reporting partner and a team responsible for building campaigns can therefore have different access. The reviewed Premium offer includes ten websites. Each site has its own widgets, goals and campaigns, an important boundary when a team manages several storefronts.

Developer
A reporting assistant can query either product. If it also needs to pause a running widget, Personizely documents that operation with write access. Alia’s external analytics interfaces are read-only. The public API and MCP server expose campaign analytics. The browser SDK can open a live popup and can respect or bypass its targeting rules. Campaign editing happens in the dashboard. REST and MCP can read experiment results and start or stop an existing widget. OAuth permits read-only access. An account API key also permits start and stop across websites, so the credential type matters for a reporting integration.

Support
Basic includes chat support. The managed offer adds onboarding, a dedicated contact and team-run tests for merchants who want someone to operate the program. Essential and Premium both include email and chat support. The reason to upgrade for a popup program is usually the experiment or personalization controls.

Editor & workflow
Lia builds and edits drafts from a prompt. Our test produced a preference step, an email form with required consent and a thank-you screen. The completed flow could be tried on a Shopify storefront before publication. The editor lets a team compose a widget from steps and elements, then attach conditional actions to visitor interactions. Existing widgets can be operated externally, while their design is edited in the dashboard.

Data & reporting
Alia reports views, signups, poll answers and attributed revenue. Campaign, device and traffic-source breakdowns help distinguish a change in the visitor mix from a change in the offer. A widget report can distinguish views, submissions, contacts and revenue. A returning contact who submits an updated answer is a submission but does not become a new contact a second time.

Integrations
Alia documents email and SMS connections including Klaviyo and Postscript. Its Zapier guide uses a browser listener to forward a signup to a catch hook, which requires site code. Form and survey answers can update profile fields. Widget automations can send a webhook or act on a connected marketing list when a particular visitor interaction occurs.

Shopify
An offer that ends with a code sent to Klaviyo fits Alia. An offer that must put a particular product in the cart has an explicit widget action in Personizely. Merchants can use a Shopify discount as the basis for unique offer codes. Shopify markets and order history can also determine which shoppers see the invitation. Widgets can add a selected product to the cart, apply a discount and create a Shopify customer. Product pickers read variants and collections. Add-to-cart and checkout-start events can be measured as distinct goals.

Pricing
The reviewed Basic offer costs $100 per month for 20,000 visitors and includes popup testing and targeting. Higher traffic and a managed service are separate buying decisions. Premium costs $59 per month at the reviewed 10,000-visitor allowance and includes ten sites. Essential is $39 at that traffic level. Widget experiments are one reason to budget for Premium.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to Alia and Personizely in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
