Best Shopify Popup Apps

Eight Shopify popup apps ranked by their store connections. Compare customer targeting, coupons, product actions and follow-up, with the important differences between installing an app and using Shopify data.

Shopify popup apps, compared

A Shopify popup app can do more than place a form on the storefront. It may recognise a returning customer, react to cart contents, issue a discount or pass a subscriber into Shopify Customers. Those connections determine whether a campaign is just visible on the store or can respond to what a shopper is doing.

This ranked selection focuses on those Shopify-specific capabilities. It complements our longer guide to Shopify popup integrations, which explains the different layers of a connection. Here the emphasis is on the apps themselves: what each one contributes, which workflows it supports and what the selected plan costs.

Papa pick prices refer to the reviewed product and selected plan. Shopify plan-dependent prices, email charges and separate companion apps are explained below; the table is not a universal quote for every store.

What puts a tool higher on this list?

Popup Papa tests popup software and examines product documentation, pricing and published use cases. We assess tools against the same criteria, then give different capabilities more weight for different tasks. The numbers below are absolute scores: they do not depend on which other app a tool is compared with.

The Shopify profile gives 70% of the score to the Shopify capability section and 30% to the rest of the toolkit. Installation is required, but it is only one part of the assessment. Customer data, targeting, discounts, store events, product access and supported store actions distinguish the apps after installation.

The ranking uses confirmed main-product capabilities. A related Shopify app is not automatically part of another product’s score. This matters especially for Getsitecontrol, whose main email-and-popup platform differs from the separate GSC Popup, Email Pop Up app. Prices and individual feature restrictions remain separate from the capability rating.

Privy brings Shopify product and customer context into both onsite displays and follow-up marketing. Its audience rules include cart value, product or variant IDs, customer tags and order history. Product blocks can use synchronised titles, descriptions and prices, while collections also support targeting and content. That breadth explains its leading position under the Shopify profile.

Discount settings cover existing or unique Shopify codes, with purchase, product and expiry controls. Displays can apply a coupon to the cart, and Cross Sell campaigns can add a selected Shopify product through their action link. These are distinct operations: displaying a reward, applying it and adding a product do not all happen merely because the app is installed.

Privy also synchronises subscribers and marketing status with Shopify and uses store events in its own flows. Those are Privy Flows, not a claim of Shopify Flow integration. The commercial choice is between popup capture and a combined email package, with different traffic and contact limits. A store using another email service can evaluate that split without changing what the onsite campaign needs to do.

Plan to compare

Email + SMS is the pick when you want capture and follow-up in one product. The popup-only subscription is cheaper if another service already handles email.

Getsitecontrol’s main platform supports Shopify cart, product and customer conditions, along with actions to apply a discount or add a product to the cart. Dynamic text can use store context, and submitted contacts can reach Shopify Customers. These capabilities make the popup responsive to the shopper rather than simply a form embedded on a store page.

Its email side adds product cards, store-triggered automation and unique single-use coupons. The scope is important: the confirmed unique-coupon feature belongs to emails and should not be assumed to work identically in popup campaigns. Email sends are billed separately from the widget subscription, so onsite activity and follow-up volume have different cost drivers.

The main product is GSC Email Marketing + Popups. The separately listed GSC Popup, Email Pop Up app has its own Shopify features, including the documented Flow connection and Built for Shopify badge. Those separate-app findings do not inflate this ranking. Pro provides advanced store targeting; the review explains the main platform’s per-site plans and how they differ from the companion app.

Plan to compare

Pro unlocks the full feature set and removes branding. Pro Max adds unlimited widget views and a lower email sending rate, rather than more features.

Klaviyo’s Shopify connection combines signup forms with customer and order data. Forms can use cart value, products and segments built from store activity, while events such as Added to Cart, Checkout Started and Placed Order can feed flows and audiences. The result is a shared customer record across the onsite invitation and later marketing.

Klaviyo can generate unique Shopify discount codes for forms and flows. A unique coupon created through a form can be applied at checkout. Customer and consent information also move from Shopify into Klaviyo, with optional settings for synchronising profile data and subscription status back to Shopify. Those directions are more specific than a generic “customer sync” label.

The popup is included in the wider email platform rather than priced as a separate traffic-based app. Active profiles and channel usage determine the subscription. This makes Klaviyo a direct option for a store already using its segmentation and sending tools, while a merchant needing only a small notice may not need the rest of the platform.

Plan to compare

The paid Email tier makes sense as the list outgrows Free or requires more sending capacity. Do not upgrade just for a popup: Free already includes signup forms and automation within its limits.

CWILL centres its Shopify connection on subscribers, discounts and store follow-up. Captured contacts become available through Shopify Customers and Shopify Email, and a new-subscriber trigger can start a Shopify Flow workflow. Customer tags and recent purchase information can also select the popup audience.

Its discount setup supports an existing Shopify code or a unique single-use reward per subscription, including percentage, fixed-amount and free-shipping offers with optional expiry. Cart-related popup timing and email presets add another layer around the signup. The email presets and Flow connection are distinct routes, rather than one universal automation feature.

Plans are limited by new subscribers and email capacity while popup views are unlimited. Essential expands those allowances and adds a custom sending domain; Pro adds custom email-flow conditions and branching. That is a different commercial model from charging for every storefront pageview. Unlimited views does not remove the subscriber limits or possible overage charges.

Plan to compare

Essential adds a custom sending domain and more subscriber and email capacity. Welcome sequences use preset triggers; Pro adds custom conditions and branching. Overage charges can apply.

ConvertFlow’s Shopify role is especially relevant to product-finder funnels. Its product source includes variants, quantities, prices and reviews, and the app supports adding recommended products to the cart. A popup can therefore begin with questions and end with a product action rather than only an email submission.

Cart-value and cart-quantity conditions give the funnel store context. Product recommendations and conditional outcomes require the relevant connection and plan, with advanced conditional actions on Pro. The app listing also describes product, customer and order synchronisation, but that should not be read as a guarantee of every field mapping or conflict-handling behaviour.

Free supports design and preview rather than a live published funnel. A merchant evaluating this app is choosing a structured multi-step experience, with publishing and advanced logic as separate buying considerations. Its Shopify score reflects product access and store actions; the actual funnel still depends on the products, answers and outcomes configured for that store.

Plan to compare

Pro is justified when funnel tests and conditional product recommendations are required. For capture and CRM integrations without those features, Prime is the cheaper option.

OptiMonk combines Shopify cart targeting with discount and product campaigns. Conditions can use cart value, the number of products and the presence of particular items. Its product tools cover manually chosen products and documented recommendation options, including browsing and cart context.

Unique single-use Shopify coupons and automatic redemption are documented, while wheel and scratch rewards use existing codes. That distinction matters when a store wants a personal reward for every signup rather than a shared promotion. The popup’s game mechanic and the discount-generation method are separate features, even when both appear in the same campaign.

OptiMonk also offers experiments with a no-popup control group, helping compare an onsite offer against the underlying store experience. Free includes the current feature set and branding removal; paid plans expand pageviews, domains and AI credits. All site pageviews consume capacity, so a campaign aimed only at a narrow cart audience still runs within the store’s wider traffic allowance.

Plan to compare

Essential adds capacity and a second domain. Free already includes all features and no branding; upgrade for traffic, domains or AI credits rather than feature access.

Pop Convert uses Shopify customer information to distinguish audiences by login status, B2B status, tags, spend and order count. Campaigns can respond to add-to-cart or out-of-stock events, and a submitted form can be configured to add customer tags. These controls connect the popup to the store’s customer lifecycle.

The campaign editor supports announcements, forms, smart bars and A/B testing. Displays can also be linked so that one follows the dismissal or submission of another. Native email flows include welcome, abandoned-cart and post-purchase routes. Fixed-code creation is confirmed; that should not be expanded into a claim of unique per-subscriber coupons.

Paid pricing follows the store’s Shopify plan, with different rates for Basic, Grow, Advanced and Plus. The paid offer removes the free session and subscriber caps, and related stores can be linked under the billing account. Free allowances differ between the account and public listing, so the review preserves both rather than presenting one figure as universal.

Plan to compare

The Shopify Basic tier removes the free plan’s session and subscriber limits. Stores on Grow, Advanced or Plus pay their corresponding app rate.

Poptin adds Shopify cart and customer conditions to its general popup builder. The available controls include cart item count, value and products, plus login state and customer tags. Order-history targeting has an upgrade restriction. These differences matter when the intended audience is existing buyers rather than every anonymous visitor.

A Shopify-linked campaign can include an add-to-cart button action, while store-related triggers can start a popup or follow-up route. Forms also support ordinary email capture, choice fields, consent and validation. Poptin therefore combines generic form flexibility with selected Shopify operations rather than making every campaign depend on store data.

The subscription choice includes popup-only plans and the Growth email bundle. Visitor allowances, contact capacity, domain limits and user access vary between them. The Basic Papa pick is not a claim that all deeper Shopify audience rules are included at that price. The review’s feature and plan sections show the relevant upgrade boundaries.

Plan to compare

Basic is our popup-only pick for one unbranded site with up to 10,000 visitors. For up to 5,000 visitors, also compare Growth: the 500-contact option is $19/month and includes unlimited domains, email and user management.

Campaigns in practice

These published store campaigns show how popup capture connects to a wider shopping journey. Results are reported by the vendors and may include changes to follow-up, targeting or messaging as well as the popup itself.

Briogeo: consolidating forms into one sequence

Klaviyo describes Shopify merchant Briogeo consolidating separate forms into a multi-step popup with a teaser and changing its SMS opt-in process. It reports 248% period-over-period growth in form submit rate in the following 90 days. Several recommendations changed together, so this is not an isolated test of the popup layout.

Kōv Essentials: capture feeding repeat communication

Privy’s Kōv Essentials story connects popups and landing pages with ongoing email campaigns and automations. Social audiences enter an owned contact channel, then receive launches, offers and other messages. The example shows why a combined platform’s value extends beyond the initial display without making all later revenue attributable to the popup alone.

Black Ember: cart context and product discovery

Wisepops’ Black Ember case combines Shopify and Klaviyo integrations with onsite campaigns. Product-launch notifications lead to product pages, while shipping messages respond to location and cart value. This illustrates two store-specific jobs: directing attention to a new item and explaining an incentive at the moment the cart becomes relevant.

How these tools differ

Installation is only the first layer

Every selected product has a Shopify installation route. That establishes access to the storefront, not equal access to customer data, discounts, products or Flow. Those capabilities are evaluated separately in the Shopify score.

The distinction is visible in Getsitecontrol’s two apps. The main platform and the separate popup app do not have identical features. A badge or Flow connection belonging to one cannot be used to describe the other. The broader integration guide explains each layer in detail.

How Shopify popup connections work

Displaying, generating and applying a coupon

A popup can show an existing code without creating a new discount. Privy, Klaviyo and CWILL support unique Shopify rewards in their documented workflows, while Pop Convert’s confirmed creation flow uses a fixed code. OptiMonk’s games use existing codes even though regular campaigns have a documented unique-code route.

Application is another step. A displayed code may need to be copied; an apply-discount action can carry it into checkout. Eligibility, expiry and discount combinations still belong to Shopify’s discount rules. The popup cannot make an invalid discount valid merely by showing it.

Customer recognition and anonymous browsing

Tags, order history and lifetime spend describe known customers. Cart contents and page context can describe a current visit. Privy, Klaviyo and Pop Convert expose different combinations of these inputs, while CWILL includes tags and a recent-purchase audience.

A campaign aimed at returning buyers depends on recognition, not just a “returning visitor” cookie. These are different definitions of return. The chosen customer rule should match the offer, especially when it excludes existing buyers from a first-order promotion.

A product recommendation is more than an image

ConvertFlow can connect answers to a product-finder outcome and add recommended items to the cart. Privy’s product blocks and Cross Sell actions use store products. OptiMonk documents several recommendation sources. These go beyond manually placing an image and a link in a popup.

Product capability also has a surface. Getsitecontrol’s confirmed product-card selections belong to its email editor. That is useful for follow-up, but it should not be presented as the same recommendation block inside every popup. The individual reviews preserve those distinctions.

Shopify Flow and an app’s own flows

CWILL documents a new-subscriber trigger for Shopify Flow. Privy has its own event-driven flows, and Klaviyo uses store events inside its own automation system. The separate GSC Popup app also has a Flow connection. The word “flow” alone does not identify the system running the workflow.

That difference affects where the contact is tagged, where a message is sent and which subscription pays for it. A store can use several systems, but a single signup should have a clear destination and follow-up owner.

Compare email connections

The same traffic can produce different bills

OptiMonk counts site pageviews; Getsitecontrol counts widget views per site; CWILL uses new-subscriber and email allowances with unlimited popup views. Klaviyo grows with active profiles, while Pop Convert’s paid rate follows the Shopify plan.

These are different commercial units rather than small variations of one price. A high-traffic store showing a narrow notice and a small store collecting many new subscribers can favour different models. The table provides one selected plan per product; the reviews explain the counting rules and limits.

Six Shopify connections that change a campaign

These are the main differences behind a Shopify popup app’s practical role in the store.

  1. Storefront placement. Installation and theme activation determine where the campaign can appear.
  2. Audience context. Customer tags, purchase history and current cart contents are separate inputs.
  3. Discount source. Existing, fixed and unique codes support different reward strategies.
  4. Store action. Copying a code, applying it and adding a product are different actions.
  5. Subscriber destination. Shopify Customers, an email list and a CRM record can have different subscription states.
  6. Follow-up engine. Shopify Flow and the app’s own email workflows are separate systems.

Common questions

What is the best popup app for Shopify?

Privy leads the Shopify-specific profile in this selection, followed by Getsitecontrol and Klaviyo. The score emphasises store connections rather than only form design. A merchant needing a simple signup or a free app may prefer a narrower product with a different pricing model.

Is a Shopify popup app different from a general popup builder?

It can be. Installation alone places a campaign on the store; deeper integrations add customer data, cart rules, discounts and store actions. General builders may support those operations too, but the Shopify-specific capabilities need to be checked individually.

Can a popup automatically apply a Shopify discount?

Some apps support applying a discount as an action or through a form reward. That is different from showing or copying the code. Shopify still decides whether the discount is valid for the cart, customer and current combination of offers.

Are all the listed Shopify popup apps free?

No. Several have free plans, but their allowances and feature access differ. CWILL limits new subscribers, Pop Convert has session and subscriber caps, and Klaviyo limits active profiles and sending capacity. The selected prices in this guide are paid Papa pick plans.

Do I need another popup app if I use Klaviyo?

Not necessarily. Klaviyo includes signup forms and Shopify customer context. A separate app is a choice for particular form, game, targeting or workflow capabilities. The connector then needs to pass the required fields and subscription state to Klaviyo.

Can Shopify popups add products to the cart?

Privy, Getsitecontrol, ConvertFlow and Poptin have confirmed add-to-cart capabilities in their respective workflows. This is a Shopify-specific operation, not a generic link-click feature. Product selection, variants and the chosen campaign configuration still matter.

Does Built for Shopify mean an app has every integration feature?

No. It is not a substitute for checking discounts, customer synchronisation, Flow or product actions. The score evaluates those capabilities separately, and a badge belonging to a companion app is not transferred to another product.

Can the popup send subscribers to Mailchimp or HubSpot?

Many apps also have external connectors. Shopify Customers and an external mailing list are separate destinations, so field mapping and subscription status remain important. The integration guides compare the routes rather than assuming the Shopify app connection handles everything.
