BDOW! vs Hello Bar.
Native email or more campaign formats?

Compare BDOW! and Hello Bar for list building, announcements, reward games and follow-up. The key pricing difference is stored contacts versus popup views, with important changes to the free offers.

What do you need your website to do next?

A site running a newsletter signup and a store-hours notice is asking two different things of its popup tool. BDOW! combines list capture with native email. Hello Bar adds a confirmed standalone Announcement mode and several reward games, with contacts flowing into a separate marketing service.

The free offers need care. BDOW! is moving new subscriptions to Pro and announces the end of legacy Free on November 9, 2026. Hello Bar Starter has 5,000 lifetime views, not a fresh monthly allowance. Neither should be budgeted as unlimited free operation.

This comparison follows the campaign from its form and display rules to delivery, collaboration and cost. For an existing email stack, the value of BDOW!’s native sends may be smaller; for a new newsletter, that bundled workflow can matter more than an extra campaign format.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 194 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

BDOW! combines popups with Smart Bars, Scroll Boxes, countdowns and a reopening tab. CTA campaigns can send visitors to a page without collecting an email, making them useful for a sale or download. Hello Bar offers text-only announcements, top or bottom bars, sliders and floating alerts. A notice can retain its close control without asking for a signup or adding a destination button.

Forms

Both tools collect more than an email address. BDOW! includes text, radio or dropdown answers, checkbox groups, hidden values and required fields. Hello Bar adds custom text, phone, dropdown and multi-select fields with required-field controls. BDOW!’s hidden values are useful for carrying campaign context; Hello Bar’s phone field suits a contact form that needs a callback. Decide which information the next system actually needs before adding more fields.

Surveys

BDOW! forms collect written answers, single choices and checkbox groups. Those inputs can gather simple preferences, but a choice field alone does not establish a scored quiz or conditional recommendation journey. Hello Bar collects custom text, dropdown answers and multiple selections alongside contact details. These fields suit short preference questions; dedicated survey scoring and answer-driven journeys need separate consideration.

Gamification

Hello Bar offers a wheel, scratch card and mystery boxes, with configurable rewards and losing outcomes. Wheel sectors include coupon codes and win percentages. BDOW!’s confirmed offer centres on conventional forms and CTA campaigns rather than a credited reward-game library. Choose Hello Bar if the game is part of the brief; choose the incentive first and ensure its rules are understandable before adding chance-based interaction.

Targeting

BDOW! uses URL, device, location and date rules, plus exit intent, timers and a click trigger. Its frequency controls can distinguish subscribers and opted-out visitors. Hello Bar adds page path, query, previous-page and visit-history conditions, with country, region or city targeting and any/all audience rules. For a local-hours update, Hello Bar’s granular location options are relevant; for a recurring signup, both offer timing and repeat-display controls.

Experiments

BDOW! Pro includes A/B testing in its current single-plan offer. Hello Bar puts split tests on paid plans, starting with Growth. Both can support a comparison of campaign designs, but test availability alone does not establish weighted traffic, a no-popup control or automatic winner selection. The practical choice is whether the subscription also covers your list, display volume and required format.

Email & SMS

BDOW! Pro sends broadcasts and welcome emails, with unlimited native sends and a base allowance of 1,000 stored contacts. Hello Bar’s documented path sends captured contacts to an email provider or automation service. For a new newsletter, BDOW! can combine acquisition and sending. If Mailchimp or another provider already owns your journeys, compare the value of BDOW!’s sending package against the specific campaign controls you gain.

Team & sites

BDOW! grants access per site and distinguishes Users from Admins; administration includes billing and user management. Additional sites need separate Pro subscriptions. Hello Bar Starter includes one seat, Growth three, and higher tiers list unlimited seats. Seat counts do not provide the same assurance as role permissions. For an agency, BDOW!’s site-based access is concrete, while the cost grows with each subscribed site.

Developer

BDOW! Pro includes outgoing webhooks for subscription data. A submission webhook moves a response into another system; it does not give an external assistant control over campaign design or publication. Hello Bar can send captured contact data to an endpoint through webhooks, listed for Premium and Elite. This is a delivery route for leads rather than an external campaign-management interface.

Support

BDOW! includes live chat for paid users, with the free account directing users to upgrade for real-time assistance. Hello Bar lists basic technical support on Starter and Growth and priority support on Premium and Elite. Compare the channel you need rather than assuming “priority” means live chat or a guaranteed response time. A support upgrade can change the useful plan even when campaign capacity is sufficient.

Editor & workflow

BDOW! saves campaigns as drafts before publication. Its current Pro subscription includes the campaign tools, while the legacy Free plan is scheduled to end on November 9, 2026. Hello Bar lets you configure a campaign in the free editor and save it paused before activation. Separate the editing workflow from the paid allowance needed for ongoing views and split tests.

Data & reporting

BDOW! documents tracking pixels and Google Analytics 4 for campaign measurement. Hello Bar’s contact lists can feed an external workflow through Zapier or a provider integration. Contact delivery and campaign analytics answer different questions: a successful sync tells you where the lead went, not whether a particular notice caused a sale. Define the event you need to measure before selecting the reporting route.

Integrations

BDOW! offers email destinations such as Mailchimp, Klaviyo and MailerLite, plus Zapier, webhooks and FormSync. A site-wide destination can be overridden by a campaign. Hello Bar connects to providers including Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign and Kit; its FAQ places webhooks on Premium and Elite. The Hello Bar Zapier guide excludes lists already attached to an external provider, so plan the handoff rather than assuming every route can run together.

Shopify

A general popup on a store is different from access to its customers, cart and discounts. BDOW!’s integration guide describes Shopify connectivity as being updated, so that connection is not treated as ready here. Hello Bar’s confirmed campaign features do not establish those store-specific operations either. For a simple site notice, focus on installation and display; for customer-tag or cart targeting, use the individual Shopify criteria below.

Pricing

BDOW! Pro costs $25 monthly or $19 per month billed $228 annually for one site and 1,000 stored contacts, with unlimited native sends. Social-proof popups have a separate 50,000-pageview allowance. Hello Bar Starter has 5,000 lifetime views; Growth lists 50,000 views per site and three seats. Its pricing card and table conflict at $39 versus $29 in annual pricing, so these are unresolved quotes, not interchangeable monthly offers. Stored contacts and popup views must be forecast separately.

The final score

Choose BDOW! when one site needs popup acquisition and native email together. Choose Hello Bar when text-only notices, sliders and reward games are central, with a separate email destination. Confirm Hello Bar’s actual charge and treat BDOW!’s contact storage and additional-site subscriptions as part of the budget.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to BDOW! and Hello Bar in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 194 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
