BDOW! vs Poptin.
Who owns the welcome email?

Compare BDOW! and Poptin for double opt-in, popup targeting, native email, client accounts and the cost of moving one publication or a whole agency.

What do you need your website to do next?

A reader signs up for a weekly edition and closes the page before opening the confirmation email. On BDOW! that reader may still be outside the confirmed list. On Poptin Growth a confirmed subscription can start an automation. For a publication promising a download, the key handoff happens after the popup disappears.

For a site sending frequent editions to a modest audience, compare BDOW! Pro with the Poptin offer that actually includes follow-up. For an agency keeping each client’s sender, start with popup targeting, account isolation and reporting instead. Buying a combined email plan to solve a reporting problem can disguise the more useful difference.

Our overall battle and the task scores below answer different questions. A publisher with one brand can skip straight to forms, email and pricing. An agency whose client needs a private report should also read the team and developer rounds.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

BDOW! combines popups with Smart Bars, Scroll Boxes, countdowns and a reopening tab. CTA campaigns can send visitors to a page without collecting an email, making them useful for a sale or download. Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor.

Forms

For a trade publication, Poptin’s business-address controls can reduce manual qualification. For a consumer newsletter, consent and the timing of confirmation can matter more than rejecting personal addresses. Try both an existing reader and a new one. BDOW! collects custom text and choice fields, hidden context and consent. Site-level double opt-in waits for email confirmation before admitting the new subscriber to the list.

Poptin offers name, email, phone, message, location, birthday and email-consent fields. Properties can use radio buttons, single-select controls and hidden values, with custom text, number, date, boolean and multiple-value properties. Email checks include format, typos and business-address rules. Double opt-in can inherit the account setting or be configured for the form.

Surveys

BDOW! forms collect written answers, single choices and checkbox groups. Those inputs can gather simple preferences, but a choice field alone does not establish a scored quiz or conditional recommendation journey. Poptin can collect customer answers through form fields. Dedicated feedback ratings and quiz formats are evaluated separately from ordinary signup questions.

Gamification

A BDOW! offer can reward a signup with a discount. A weighted wheel or another chance-based prize mechanic remains unconfirmed. Poptin provides wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include prize labels, coupon codes, relative weights, losing outcomes and redirects. Weights of 2:1:1 displayed as 50%, 25% and 25%. Targeting

BDOW! uses URL, device, location and date rules, plus exit intent, timers and a click trigger. Its frequency controls can distinguish subscribers and opted-out visitors. Poptin includes delay, exit intent, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers. Manual triggers fire when the first selected condition is met. Device, URL, country, frequency and schedules provide the basic audience controls. JavaScript, Autopilot, previous-page, cookie and other advanced conditions can require a paid plan.

Experiments

Compare two signup invitations using confirmed readers as the downstream outcome. If the dashboard counts submissions, reconcile them with the confirmed list before deciding which design recruited more people. BDOW! Pro supports popup A/B tests. The operator can adjust the percentage of traffic sent to each variant and compare conversions on the tests dashboard.

Poptin creates an A/B variant from a completed campaign and groups the designs in one dashboard test. This is useful for comparing a headline, incentive or layout without managing two unrelated campaigns. The A/B command becomes available after the initial campaign setup.

Email & SMS

Compare the email that follows a confirmed signup with the regular newsletter. Poptin Growth lets the operator add delays and branches. BDOW! pairs list storage with unlimited native sends. A daily publication and a short automated onboarding series can reach different decisions.

Pro combines form capture with native email sends. A success notification can alert the team, while an autoresponse can deliver the subscriber’s welcome message. Poptin Growth combines captured contacts with email campaigns and automations. Its canvas supports a confirmed-subscription trigger, source filters, Yes/No conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. Retrigger controls help manage repeat entry. The email editor includes columns, text, images, buttons, HTML, coupons and reusable blocks.

Team & sites

A second BDOW! publication needs another site subscription. With Poptin, check the chosen plan for domains and separate subaccounts. A single team editing two editions needs less separation than unrelated clients retrieving private reports. BDOW! grants access per site and distinguishes Users from Admins; administration includes billing and user management. Additional sites need separate Pro subscriptions.

Poptin exposes users, subaccounts and account- or subaccount-scoped API keys. Its Users screen describes broad editing, deletion and billing access, while seat availability depends on the offer. On Agency, sub-account users cannot open Billing and Plans. Treat the user allowance and the popup-domain allowance as separate plan details.

Developer

A BDOW! outbound webhook suits a CRM waiting for a new subscriber. Poptin’s reporting credentials can suit an agency collecting results for a client. A test submission and a successful request for campaign statistics prove different things. BDOW! Pro includes outgoing webhooks for subscription data. A submission webhook moves a response into another system; it does not give an external assistant control over campaign design or publication. Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint.

Integrations

BDOW! offers email destinations such as Mailchimp, Klaviyo and MailerLite, plus Zapier, webhooks and FormSync. A site-wide destination can be overridden by a campaign. Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, with Make and Zapier for additional workflows. Slack supports team notifications, and a webhook route can forward submissions. Its REST API offers another route to contacts and reporting. A store can therefore keep its existing email platform rather than moving to Poptin Growth.

IntegrationsBDOW!Poptin
Email+0.13

MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, Flodesk, Kit, VerticalResponse: Set a site-wide destination, then override it for individual campaigns where needed. The plan guide places email integrations in paid Pro / Plus features. Constant Contact: Connect the account, choose the default Constant Contact list and save. An individual popup can override the list. BDOW! also documents passing standard contact details and setting up extra or hidden fields, useful when several offers feed one account. GetResponse: BDOW! records GetResponse as a subscriber destination. Its email integrations support a site default and individual campaign overrides, but the published material checked does not spell out the GetResponse field mapping or autoresponder settings. Verify both on a test list before replacing a working form. Klaviyo: Authorize Klaviyo and select a list globally or per campaign. Standard, custom and hidden fields accompany the email address. Requires paid Pro / Plus. Mailchimp: Connect Mailchimp and choose an audience globally or per campaign. Coordinate BDOW! and Mailchimp confirmation settings to avoid duplicate opt-in emails. Requires paid Pro / Plus.

+0.13

SmartrMail: Copy the API key from SmartrMail’s integration settings and the list ID from the subscriber list URL. Enter both under Email and Integrations on the poptin and approve. The guide confirms lead delivery to the list but gives no complete extra-field map. Kit: Authorize Kit or enter an API key, then select a form to receive name, email and phone. The Kit form’s confirmation-email settings determine whether subscribers must confirm before joining. Brevo: Connect with a v3 API key and list ID to send name, email and phone. Names split into first and last name; the SMS attribute requires a phone number with its country prefix. ActiveCampaign, ActiveTrail, Benchmark, Drip, E-goi, Ecomail, Elastic Email, Emma, Gist, MailerLite, Mailgun, Omnisend, Sendloop: Send new popup contacts to the connected email platform for follow-up. The integration selector is included in Growth Free; custom-field transfer depends on the selected connector. CM Commerce: Enter the CM Commerce API key and the target list ID in the poptin’s integration settings. The guide lists name, email, phone and message and sends a test lead after setup. Choose the CM Commerce integration when configuring this route. Customer.io: Use the workspace Site ID, API key and segment ID in the Customer.io integration for the poptin. Its guide lists name, email, phone and message and sends a test lead on successful setup. Check the person in the intended workspace and segment. Dotdigital: Enter the Dotdigital API user email, password, regional endpoint and address book ID under the popup’s Email and Integrations settings. After publishing, Poptin sends a test lead to that book. Its guide lists name, email, phone and message as supported fields. EmailOctopus: In EmailOctopus, copy the list ID and the field tag for first name. Enter both with the API key in Poptin. Poptin documents name, email, phone and message; check the actual destination field before using any of them in a template. iContact: Enter the app credentials, account ID, folder ID and list ID for the intended iContact account in Poptin. The list ID can be copied from the list URL. The documented fields are name, email and phone. Mailjet: Copy the Mailjet API key, secret and contact list ID into the poptin’s integration settings and approve the connection. This directs new email signups to the chosen list. Validate any optional answers on the contact before building a segment around them. Moosend: Choose Moosend in the popup’s Email and Integrations settings and enter the API key and list ID. The guide confirms list delivery, but its field note names a different provider. Verify optional fields using a real submission before depending on them. SendFox: Generate a SendFox personal access token, copy the list ID and enter both in the poptin’s integration settings. Save the popup and look for its API test lead in that list. Poptin specifies name and email for this connector. Sendlane: On the individual popup, enter the Sendlane list ID, API key, hash key and subdomain described in Poptin’s setup guide. This route sends signups to that list. Check which credentials your account exposes before following this older setup in a new account. SendPulse: Open Email and Integrations on the poptin, choose SendPulse and supply the account’s API credentials. SendPulse documents choosing the email list that receives new form responses. Verify extra answers in that address book before treating them as campaign variables. AWeber: Authenticate AWeber in the poptin’s Email and Integrations settings, choose the list, approve and save the changes. Poptin’s connector guide names Email and Message as the supported fields. Check a different connector if several structured answers must reach AWeber separately. Campaign Monitor: Copy the API key and the list API ID into the popup’s Email and Integrations settings. Poptin documents sending name, email address, phone and message. The list ID identifies the destination, so a copied client campaign needs its own settings checked. Constant Contact: In the popup editor, open Email and Integrations, add Constant Contact and select the email list for new subscribers. Poptin documents signup delivery there. Its walkthrough does not enumerate optional fields, so inspect a contact before relying on a phone number or a preference. GetResponse: In Email and Integrations, enter the GetResponse API key and the target list’s token. Save the popup and look for Poptin’s test lead in that list. Poptin specifies name and email and explicitly excludes the phone field for this connector. SendGrid: Enter a SendGrid API key and the list ID from Marketing → Contacts in the poptin’s integration settings. Poptin sends a test lead to the selected list and documents name, email and phone. Verify a real form submission separately from the setup test. Klaviyo: Choose a Klaviyo list to receive name, email, phone and custom properties. SMS needs consent and confirmation; invalid phone numbers can prevent list membership. Mailchimp: Connect Mailchimp, select tags and groups, and enable updates for returning contacts if needed. Message and consent values use text merge fields named MESSAGE and CONSENT.

CRM—+0.25

Agile CRM, Fireberry, Freshsales, LeadSquared, Nutshell, Salesflare: Route new contacts to sales tools. Keap: Authenticate Keap in the poptin’s integration settings and publish the changes. Poptin lists name, email and phone and sends an API test lead to the contact database. A contact arriving in Keap is the starting point for checking any sales or messaging automation. Pipedrive: Authorize Pipedrive from the popup and save the integration. Name, email and phone are supported; deal name and deal stage are optional settings. Poptin sends a test contact after setup. Inspect the pipeline as well if you enabled deal creation. Zoho CRM: Sign in to Zoho CRM from the popup’s integration settings and authorize access. Poptin documents name, email and phone and sends a test entry to Zoho CRM Leads. Look there first when checking a new enquiry. Salesforce: Authenticate Salesforce under the poptin’s Email and Integrations settings and map the form fields. Poptin requires a mapping for Company. Make sure the form actually collects a usable value before choosing this route for a business enquiry. HubSpot: The CRM route sends name, email and phone, with optional contact updates. HubSpot Forms also sends Message to a chosen form. Both require an email field and account authorization.

Shopify

A general popup on a store is different from access to its customers, cart and discounts. BDOW!’s integration guide describes Shopify connectivity as being updated, so that connection is not treated as ready here. Poptin has a native Shopify app. Cart item count, cart value, specific products, customer tags and login status can shape the audience. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Shopify cart triggers and post-purchase automations can start the next interaction. Popup buttons offer Add to cart. Coupon setup supports fixed codes and imported unique-code lists, including CSV and fallback codes. These controls suit targeted capture and straightforward cart offers.

Pricing

For BDOW!, start with the number of sites and stored contacts. For Poptin, ask which visitor tier the busiest client needs and whether Growth must also cover contact capacity. A quote for popup-only service leaves a publisher’s newsletter unpriced. BDOW! Pro costs $25 per month for one site and 1,000 stored contacts, with unlimited native email sends. Each additional site requires its own subscription.

Poptin’s monthly popup plans are Basic at $25 for 10,000 visitors and one domain, Pro at $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains, and Agency at $119 for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains. Growth uses a separate contact-and-email model: the $19 bracket covers 500 contacts and 5,000 visitors, with unlimited emails and domains. Visitor allowances count visitors to installed pages, not just popup viewers.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to BDOW! and Poptin in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
