Hello Bar vs Elfsight.
Campaign testing or a few focused widgets?

Compare Hello Bar and Elfsight Popup for announcements, signup forms and promotions. Explore format choices, conditional fields, games, A/B testing and the difference between popup views and widget loads.

What do you need your website to do next?

For a store-hours notice, both Hello Bar and Elfsight Popup can display information without collecting an email. The next requirement separates them: Hello Bar offers bars, sliders, floating alerts and games; Elfsight Popup offers a focused widget with conditional form fields and mobile-specific elements.

A small site maintaining a few notices may value Elfsight’s low-cost unbranded plan. A marketing team rotating incentives and testing designs may need Hello Bar’s paid experiment workflow and unlimited popups. Neither advantage makes the other product universally unsuitable.

This comparison covers Elfsight Popup, not every app sold by Elfsight. Its separate Announcement Bar subscription is not included in the Popup score. We also distinguish Hello Bar’s actual popup views from Elfsight’s widget loads and flag the unresolved public price difference on Hello Bar Growth.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 194 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

Hello Bar offers text-only announcements, top or bottom bars, sliders and floating alerts. A notice can retain its close control without asking for a signup or adding a destination button. Elfsight Popup can show information with text, an image and a close control, without a form or action button. It also includes a timer and element-level device visibility. Announcement Bar is a separate Elfsight app.

Forms

Hello Bar supports phone, custom text, dropdown and multi-select fields, with checkbox and required-field controls. Elfsight Popup adds hidden values and conditional field visibility to its text, phone and choice inputs. A customer enquiry that changes the next question based on an answer is a stronger Elfsight use case. A conventional newsletter or preference form can fit either, with the delivery destination deciding the final setup.

Surveys

Hello Bar collects custom text, dropdown answers and multiple selections alongside contact details. These fields suit short preference questions; dedicated survey scoring and answer-driven journeys need separate consideration. Elfsight Popup forms offer text, choice and dropdown fields, multiple selection and conditional field visibility. This supports questions that depend on earlier answers, while result scoring and product recommendations are separate requirements.

Gamification

Hello Bar includes a wheel, scratch card and mystery boxes with configurable rewards, probabilities and losing outcomes. Elfsight Popup does not have a confirmed equivalent game library here. For a prize-led signup campaign, Hello Bar is the relevant candidate in this pair. For a service announcement, a game adds an unrelated step, so its availability should not outweigh the simplicity and cost of the notice itself.

Targeting

Hello Bar offers URL, path, query, previous-page, campaign-parameter, cookie and visit-history conditions, plus country, region and city rules. Elfsight Popup provides page and device controls, scheduling and frequency, with load, delay, scroll, exit and element-click triggers. Hello Bar is the stronger documented fit for audience segmentation; Elfsight can cover a notice tied to selected pages and a period without requiring that wider audience model.

Experiments

Hello Bar’s paid plans include A/B testing, starting with Growth. Elfsight’s multiple saved widget slots are not evidence of a native split-test workflow. That distinction matters for a team comparing headlines or incentives across controlled campaign variants. If the job is maintaining a few factual notices, the lack of a confirmed experiment workflow may be less important than the widget count and required display controls.

Email & SMS

Both can deliver captured contacts to an external email service. Hello Bar lists several providers, including ActiveCampaign, Kit and Mailchimp; Elfsight Popup has a documented Mailchimp route. A connector does not include the destination’s subscription or a complete native sending system. If the email stack already exists, select the popup tool by the fields and campaigns it adds rather than counting the same follow-up workflow twice.

Team & sites

Hello Bar Growth includes three seats, while Premium and Elite list unlimited seats. Elfsight Pro includes one collaborator and Premium three; Premium also supports project-only access, with no widget creation, deletion or billing management for project members. Hello Bar’s seat capacity may suit a larger team, while Elfsight’s documented project boundary matters when a contractor should work only on assigned content.

Developer

Hello Bar can send captured contact data to an endpoint through webhooks, listed for Premium and Elite. This is a delivery route for leads rather than an external campaign-management interface. Elfsight Popup forwards form responses to a supplied endpoint and supports automation connections. These submission routes move visitor data; they do not establish external control over widget configuration or publication.

Support

Hello Bar lists basic technical support on Starter and Growth and priority support on Premium and Elite. Elfsight offers basic support on Basic, priority on Pro and live chat on Premium. The same “priority” label does not establish identical channels or response times. If live chat is essential, Elfsight documents it at a specific tier, which should be included in the price comparison rather than attributed to Basic.

Editor & workflow

Hello Bar lets you configure a campaign in the free editor and save it paused before activation. Separate the editing workflow from the paid allowance needed for ongoing views and split tests. Elfsight separates content, layout and style in its Popup editor. Plan selection depends on saved widget slots and loads; a subscription to Popup does not include every other app in the Elfsight catalogue.

Data & reporting

Hello Bar’s allowance is based on popup views; Elfsight counts widget loads, which are not necessarily visible displays. A report that calls both numbers “impressions” can obscure the difference between billing and exposure. For a notice with no action button, use delivery and audience context rather than treating a missing click as failure. For a signup, keep submissions and downstream contact delivery distinct from the load count.

Integrations

Hello Bar connects to multiple email providers, Zapier and webhooks, with the latter listed for Premium and Elite. Elfsight Popup connects directly to Mailchimp and Google Sheets and offers Zapier, Make and an endpoint for submissions. Choose Hello Bar when a supported email provider is the immediate destination; Elfsight is attractive for a spreadsheet-centred response workflow. Check exact plan access before assuming every available route is included at the entry price.

ActiveCampaign, Kit, GetResponse, AWeber, Constant Contact: Send new subscribers and collected fields to the connected mailing list. Mailchimp: Send new subscribers and collected fields to the connected Mailchimp list. Email integrations are available across Hello Bar’s plans, so this connection does not depend on a higher popup tier. A list already connected to an external provider is not available for a separate Zapier connection.

Mailchimp: Authorize Mailchimp from the Popup widget’s form block. Submitted contacts are sent to Audience → All contacts, giving the widget a direct destination for collected signups. Audience management and subsequent email campaigns remain in Mailchimp.

Shopify

These products can be considered for general website notices, but their confirmed Popup capabilities do not establish a full Shopify customer, cart or discount workflow. A store-hours announcement can be useful without those operations; an offer based on customer tags cannot. Use the capability table to distinguish the requirements, and do not borrow store features from another Elfsight app or infer them from a general integration claim.

Pricing

Elfsight Free includes one widget and 200 monthly loads; Basic is $6 monthly for three widgets, 5,000 loads and no branding. Hello Bar Starter includes 5,000 lifetime views and one seat. Growth lists 50,000 views per site, three seats and A/B tests, but its annual price differs between the card and table at $39 and $29. These are conflicting published terms, not a choice of equivalent offers. A larger number of views also cannot be compared directly with widget loads.

The final score

Choose Hello Bar for recurring campaigns that need bars, sliders, reward games and A/B tests. Choose Elfsight Popup for a small set of information widgets or forms with conditional fields and direct spreadsheet delivery. Confirm Hello Bar’s billing quote and estimate Elfsight’s widget loads before turning a low starting price into a long-term budget.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to Hello Bar and Elfsight in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 194 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
