Hello Bar vs Getsitecontrol.
What happens after the notice appears?

Compare Hello Bar vs Getsitecontrol for announcements, Shopify cart actions, surveys, testing and the cost of showing offers on a busy website.

What do you need your website to do next?

A retailer tells customers that weekend orders ship on Tuesday. The notice needs a date, a close control and a place where the right shoppers will see it. Asking those shoppers to subscribe would make the message less useful. A week later the same retailer wants an offer that adds a product to the cart. The second brief changes which tool deserves a trial.

Hello Bar is a strong starting point for a publisher with bars, questionnaires and occasional prize campaigns. Getsitecontrol deserves a closer look where the response determines the next question, the shopper acts inside a widget, or subsequent emails belong with the campaign.

Price the paid campaign you would actually run. The view allowance of a permanent site-wide banner can dominate its cost. For an infrequent wholesale enquiry, what reaches the sales team after a successful submission can matter far more.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

For a shipping update, try both tools with no email field and no promotional button. Check what remains visible on a narrow product page after the notice is dismissed. For a sale, add the precise action the customer must take and repeat the same test.

Hello Bar offers text-only announcements, top or bottom bars, sliders and floating alerts. A notice can retain its close control without asking for a signup or adding a destination button. Getsitecontrol builds standalone notices, slide-ins and bars, with teasers, countdowns and dynamic text. Desktop and mobile styles can be adjusted separately.

Forms

A form can collect an email, phone, free text and choices. The survey editor can present one question at a time and show a progress counter. Getsitecontrol collects email, phone, text, single-choice and multiple-choice answers. It adds star, NPS, emoji and binary ratings, hidden values and consent checkboxes. Conditional fields and page branching tailor the next question to an earlier answer. Double opt-in verifies email ownership, while reCAPTCHA screens suspicious submissions.

Surveys

Hello Bar can take respondents through a scale with a visible progress indicator. Getsitecontrol is useful when the business needs a follow-up only from customers giving a particular answer. Compare the resulting response record as well as the number of screens. Forms & Surveys includes modal questionnaires with a progress counter, star ratings, numerical scales, yes/no questions and multiple selections. Quiz is a separate goal for scored questions. Gamification

Hello Bar gives the operator prize probabilities and a losing outcome in its game editor. That distinction matters when a merchant promises a chance to win. A store promising the same coupon to every eligible shopper can use a shorter route.

The gamification editor includes spin-to-win, scratch cards and mystery boxes. A campaign can assign probabilities to prizes and include a losing outcome. Getsitecontrol offers a prize wheel, a scratch card and a tap-to-reveal card. Prize settings include codes and relative weights, with replay controls. The wheel adds spin duration and a pause after spinning; the scratch card sets how much of the cover must be removed.

Targeting

Combine URL, previous page, traffic source, location and visitor conditions. A custom browser event can trigger an existing popup, with a limit on repeated displays. Getsitecontrol combines page, device, location, referral and visitor conditions, including Shopify cart data. Widgets can open after a delay, on scroll or on exit intent. Repeat-display settings respond to a view, closure or action; schedules use dates, hours and weekdays.

Experiments

Paid plans starting with Growth include A/B testing. The offer counts popup views per site, so a test’s reach depends on both its audience rules and the plan allowance. Getsitecontrol Pro runs widget A/B tests with random visitor assignment and reports views, actions and click-through rate for each variant. Tests end manually. Its separate email-broadcast testing can select a winning email, which does not establish an automatic winner for popup tests.

Email & SMS

A lead alert reaching a Hello Bar administrator and a message reaching the subscriber serve different people. If the existing sender already delivers the welcome offer, keep that integration in the comparison. If the sender is to be retired, price Getsitecontrol’s email volume too.

Hello Bar delivers signups to a contact list and can alert account admins when a new lead arrives. Follow-up campaigns can run in the connected email service. Getsitecontrol has its own email editor, broadcasts, contact segments and automations. A form submission can start a welcome sequence; workflows can add delays, apply conditions and respond to contact or store events. Email sends are billed as credits separately from widget views.

Compare the channel you need rather than assuming “priority” means live chat or a guaranteed response time. A support upgrade can change the useful plan even when campaign capacity is sufficient. Getsitecontrol includes live chat on all plans, including Free. Product support covers the widget and email platform; the subscription remains a self-service product rather than a campaign-production retainer.

Integrations

Hello Bar connects to providers including Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign and Kit; its FAQ places webhooks on Premium and Elite. Getsitecontrol connects forms to email services, CRM destinations, Google Sheets, Zapier and analytics. Field mapping passes form, system and static values to the destination. Webhooks provide another route for submissions, and its own contact list can power native email campaigns.

Select the AWeber contact list to receive email addresses from the bars or popups using this connection. The guide leaves custom fields and tag-triggered workflows unspecified. Constant Contact: Under Contacts, create a contact list, choose Constant Contact, sign in and select the receiving list. Campaigns using that Hello Bar list send their email signups there. Shopify

A link from a Hello Bar can send someone to a collection. For a merchant who wants an eligible shopper to add an item or apply a discount inside the promotion, test Getsitecontrol against a populated cart, then confirm the cart contents at checkout.

These products can be considered for general website notices, but their confirmed Popup capabilities do not establish a full Shopify customer, cart or discount workflow. Getsitecontrol uses Shopify cart and customer parameters in targeting, and widget buttons can add a product to the cart or apply a discount. The main GSC Email Marketing + Popups app also connects store events to email workflows. The separate GSC Popup, Email Pop Up app carries the Built for Shopify badge and supports Shopify Flow; neither earns points for Getsitecontrol.

Pricing

Size both accounts for the site and campaign frequency that will go live. Hello Bar Starter has a lifetime view allowance. Getsitecontrol Pro bills per site and charges for email sends separately. A no-email announcement and a monthly newsletter require different budgets.

Hello Bar Growth costs $39 with monthly billing; $29 is the monthly equivalent under annual billing. The cost scenarios use monthly prices. Stored contacts and popup views must be forecast separately. Getsitecontrol Free includes 10,000 widget views per month. Pro costs $19 per month per site for 100,000 views; Pro Max costs $29 for unlimited views. Email credits are separate, so a popup-only bill and a popup-plus-email bill are different calculations.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to Hello Bar and Getsitecontrol in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
