Klaviyo vs Poptin.
Popup flexibility or profile-driven marketing?
Poptin offers dedicated popup plans and Growth with native email. Klaviyo combines forms and customer journeys in a profile-based subscription. We compare forms, games, experiments, Shopify and the limits behind each price.
What do you need your website to do next?
Poptin is not only a popup tool that hands leads to another service: Growth also sends broadcasts and automated email. Comparing it with Klaviyo requires keeping that product separate from Poptin’s visitor-based popup plans.
The popup differences are more concrete than the category labels. Poptin has several game formats, explicit losing outcomes and detailed email-quality controls. Klaviyo has stronger confirmed experiment controls, revenue reporting and external form creation.
The shared scenarios show why neither starting price settles the choice. A busy site with few subscribers, an agency with several domains and a frequently mailed list put pressure on different limits.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 194 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
Klaviyo focuses its onsite editor on signup forms, including popup, flyout and embedded layouts. Mobile settings adapt the signup experience to smaller screens. Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor.

Forms
The shared forms score is tied, but the controls differ. Poptin has detailed email-quality settings; Klaviyo contributes confirmed multistep forms, multiple-choice input and phone verification controls. Match the exact requirement to the row. Klaviyo collects email, phone, text, radio, dropdown and checkbox answers across multiple steps. Consent and hidden properties attach to the profile. Phone-format checks, CAPTCHA and double opt-in help protect the list; mobile tap-to-text provides another SMS signup route. Poptin collects contact details, messages, location, birthdays and consent, with configurable properties and hidden values. Email controls include format, typo and business-address checks. Double opt-in can follow the account setting or be chosen for the form.

Gamification
Poptin has the higher game score through its format variety and losing outcomes. Klaviyo’s wheel keeps a simpler prize-and-signup experience inside the email platform. Klaviyo offers a spin-to-win block with two to six slices. Each slice has a probability, success step and coupon. The signup can sit before or alongside the spin. This establishes a configurable wheel, not a library of scratch cards, calendars or outcome quizzes. Poptin offers wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include weighted prizes, losing outcomes and redirects, with distinct play, win and lose screens. The documented scratch setup reveals a fixed offer.

Targeting
Klaviyo scores higher through confirmed campaign coordination. Poptin covers varied visit-based triggers, but plan access to advanced conditions can affect the cost of a specific brief. Klaviyo combines URL, UTM, device and location rules with lists and customer segments. Delay, scroll, exit and click triggers control the opening moment. Frequency settings limit repeat appearances, and form priorities decide which queued campaign appears first. Poptin uses delay, exit, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers, plus device, URL, country, frequency and scheduling controls. Advanced conditions such as cookies, previous pages and JavaScript can require paid access.

Experiments
Klaviyo has more confirmed experiment controls: traffic weighting and automatic winners. Both can compare form designs, but Poptin’s A/B availability alone does not establish those additional controls. Klaviyo tests up to seven form variations, divides traffic evenly or by configured weights, and supports automatic winner selection. Results include revenue per variation. A test between form designs does not itself establish a no-form control group. Poptin creates an A/B variation from a completed campaign and groups the designs in a test. This is useful for trying a different incentive, headline or layout without treating the campaigns as unrelated.

Email & SMS
Both satisfy the shared native-email criteria. Poptin Growth’s unlimited sends matter for a frequently mailed small list; Klaviyo’s sending allowance follows its active-profile tier. Traffic still matters for Growth. A Klaviyo signup can enter a welcome flow from a list. Flows also respond to segments, events and dates, with delays and conditional paths for later messages. Broadcasts, segmentation, email and SMS belong to the same platform; profiles and sending allowances determine the bill. Poptin Growth combines campaigns, segmentation and automations. Its canvas includes subscription triggers, source filters, conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. The $19 bracket covers 500 contacts with unlimited emails and 5,000 visitors.

Team & sites
Both support controlled billing access. Klaviyo has more confirmed role granularity and activity history; Poptin’s subaccounts are useful when the work is organised around separate clients. Klaviyo provides predefined and custom roles, with separate responsibilities for content, analysis and account management. Owners and Admins can edit billing. An activity log records changes, and Portfolio groups accounts; that grouping is not a promise of one subscription for every website. Poptin supports users, subaccounts and scoped API keys. User access and seats depend on the plan; Agency subaccount users cannot open Billing and Plans. Domain allowance is a separate limit from seats and account permissions.

Developer
Klaviyo’s REST API can create, update and publish forms, with reporting endpoints for performance. Browser events connect forms to site code. Its MCP server exposes campaigns, flows, profiles and reporting with scope restrictions; flow webhooks send custom payloads to an endpoint. Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint.

Support
Both meet the support criterion. Poptin includes direct channels on its free popup plan; Klaviyo’s free email support is limited to the first 60 days. Klaviyo’s paid plans include email and live chat support, with availability depending on the plan and day. Free accounts receive email support for the first 60 days, then rely on self-service and AI-assisted help. Poptin lists chat and email on Free, Basic and Pro, with premium support on Growth and Agency.

Data & reporting
Both provide scheduled reporting routes. Klaviyo adds confirmed form revenue attribution and export coverage in the shared criteria. Poptin’s operational reporting is useful for agencies monitoring several accounts. Klaviyo reports submissions and revenue following form interactions, including revenue by test variation. Submitters can be grouped into a segment and exported. Custom reports can run on weekly or monthly schedules, and reporting APIs support external analysis. Poptin reports visitors, views and conversions. Scheduled lead and statistics reports include recipients, subaccounts, intervals and time zones. Its reporting API supports an external dashboard or assistant.

Integrations
Poptin has the broader confirmed handoff coverage in this comparison. Klaviyo is useful when it already owns the profiles and follow-up; adding Poptin then means paying for extra popup controls rather than replacing email. Klaviyo stores signups in its own profiles and sends its own email and SMS. Its marketplace connects stores, CRMs, review and loyalty systems, advertising tools and automation services. A flow can POST a webhook payload; that route is different from a dedicated form-submission webhook. Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, Make, Zapier and Slack. Webhooks forward submissions, and its REST API exposes contacts and reporting. The popup workflow can feed an existing email service instead of moving contacts into Growth.

Shopify
Klaviyo supplies confirmed generated coupons and automatic discount application. Poptin supplies a direct add-to-cart action. Both use store audiences, with plan restrictions to consider for Poptin’s order-history rules. Klaviyo connects Shopify customers, products, orders and events to profiles and flows. Forms can target cart conditions and customer segments, including tags and order history. Unique Shopify coupons support signup incentives and automatic application at checkout; product data also powers follow-up emails. Poptin targets Shopify cart items, value, products, customer tags and login state. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Buttons can add to cart; fixed codes and imported unique-code lists support incentives. Cart and post-purchase events can start further interactions.

Pricing
The shared pricing totals are close. Klaviyo wins traffic-only scenarios with a small list; Poptin Growth is slightly cheaper in the 500-contact email scenarios and includes unlimited sends. A one-dollar difference is less useful than checking which limit you will reach first.
Klaviyo charges for active profiles and email volume rather than pageviews. Free covers 250 profiles and 500 monthly emails. The first paid email tier costs $20 for up to 500 profiles and 5,000 emails; removing form branding requires paid access. SMS has separate pricing.
Poptin Basic costs $25 monthly for 10,000 visitors and one domain; Pro costs $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains. Growth’s $19 bracket includes 500 contacts, unlimited email, 5,000 visitors and unlimited domains. These are different packages, not interchangeable allowances.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to Klaviyo and Poptin in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 194 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
