OptinMonster vs OptiMonk.
Tiered lead capture or onsite optimisation?
OptinMonster vs OptiMonk: compare popup tests, Shopify recommendations, games, team permissions and the real cost of annual feature tiers versus pageview plans.
What do you need your website to do next?
OptinMonster and OptiMonk have similar names and overlap on targeted lead capture, but they package the work differently. OptinMonster’s plans unlock progressively more campaign controls. OptiMonk includes much of its targeting, testing and integration toolkit even on Free, then scales traffic and other allowances.
OptiMonk is particularly relevant to a Shopify store using recommendations, cart offers and a no-popup experiment control. OptinMonster has a concrete team-permission model, including Authors who can prepare campaigns without publishing them. The better fit depends on whether the main constraint is campaign capability, store context or approval control.
The advertised monthly number also needs interpretation. OptinMonster’s selected offer is an annual first-year equivalent with a higher renewal. OptiMonk has monthly and annual options with pageview-based capacity. The pricing round keeps campaign impressions, site pageviews and contractual terms separate.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
OptinMonster includes floating bars and animated lightboxes, with countdowns and dynamic Smart Tags on Pro. Its operational-notice examples use messages with buttons, a useful format when an update has a destination. OptiMonk generates campaign designs from a brief and offers desktop and mobile views. Notices, form content and display elements can then be revised for the intended campaign.

Forms
OptinMonster’s two-step capture is useful for a simple commitment-first journey. OptiMonk exposes a broader set of configurable answers and field mapping for a connected marketing workflow. OptinMonster connects email capture to an external email provider. Plus adds two-step Yes/No campaigns, letting a visitor express interest before seeing the signup form. The second screen changes the route into the form; it is separate from custom-field mapping, input validation and answer-dependent branching.
OptiMonk collects email, name, phone, radio choices, checkbox-group answers and comments. Required-field settings and button destinations control the submission journey. Its AI builder can generate a multi-step form, while field mapping carries answers into a connected marketing service. Separate screens organise the questions but do not by themselves establish answer-driven branching.

Surveys
OptinMonster’s two-step Yes/No campaigns start on Plus. A preliminary choice can lead into a signup, but that structure is different from a scored survey or a product quiz with answer-dependent results. OptiMonk supports multi-step product quizzes. Quiz support is assessed separately from NPS, star and other dedicated rating formats.

Gamification
OptiMonk supports more than a wheel and offers explicit prize controls. OptinMonster’s wheel requires Growth; the selected Pro price does not buy that format. OptinMonster places gamified wheels on Growth. That establishes a spin-to-win format at a higher tier than the selected Pro plan. The existence of the wheel does not establish a scratch card, seasonal calendar or the same reward-probability controls as another product.
OptiMonk provides a wheel and scratch-card controls in its AI builder. Wheel odds are calculated across winning slices, and a slice with an empty coupon code is a losing slice. Scratch settings allow up to four weighted prize rows, with designed, solid or gradient covers; the planner describes a prize on every play. Our 2:1 scratch weights produced 66.7% and 33.3%. Its wider documentation also lists a gift format.

Targeting
OptiMonk includes extensive targeting at its free entry point. OptinMonster’s scheduling and geolocation sit on different paid tiers, so a combined audience requirement can determine the subscription. OptinMonster distributes targeting controls across paid tiers. Scheduling and advanced campaign controls are part of Pro, while geolocation requires Growth. This makes the combination of conditions important: a regional promotion with a fixed launch period needs the tier covering both the location and schedule.
OptiMonk combines delay, exit intent, scroll, inactivity, click and custom-event triggers with country, visitor history, referral, UTM, cookies and subscriber conditions. Campaign priority and previous-exposure rules coordinate several messages. AI-assisted settings changes provide another way to edit timing and audience conditions without rebuilding the campaign.

Experiments
OptiMonk adds a no-popup control and automatic winner criteria. OptinMonster Plus establishes A/B testing, but not all of those experimental controls. OptinMonster includes A/B testing from Plus. A team can compare popup designs without buying Growth solely for experiments. Automatic winner selection, adjustable traffic allocation and a no-popup control are separate criteria; the A/B-testing label alone does not establish them.
OptiMonk adds a no-popup control alongside a design, and traffic splits evenly between versions; a custom split is not available. Automatic winner settings include a 95% chance-to-win threshold, at least 200 conversions and three days. This gives an optimization team more explicit controls over the comparison and stopping rule.

Email & SMS
Both rely on a connected sender for ongoing email. Neither popup subscription should be treated as including the external platform’s contact or sending bill. OptinMonster passes captured leads to a connected email platform. That platform owns broadcasts, subscriber segmentation and welcome sequences. The popup subscription and the sending subscription therefore remain separate parts of the budget, even when the integration creates a smooth signup journey.
OptiMonk’s connection routes let you pass captured contacts to a dedicated email or SMS platform. For a store already using Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another provider, this keeps follow-up in the system that owns customer journeys and reporting. Budget for that provider alongside OptiMonk.

Team & sites
OptinMonster provides the more specific drafting-versus-publishing distinction through Author roles. OptiMonk separates Members from the billing Owner. OptinMonster Pro adds Viewer, Author and Manager subaccounts assigned to sites and folders. Authors cannot publish, and access to leads or saved assets can be granted separately. These controls provide a concrete division between drafting a campaign and making it live for visitors. OptiMonk invitations distinguish Member and Owner. Subscription, billing and usage management belong to the Owner role. That is a practical separation when one person manages campaigns and another controls the subscription.

Developer
OptinMonster Pro includes webhooks for lead delivery. A webhook connects captured data to another workflow; it should not be treated as an interface for an external agent to build or activate campaigns. OptiMonk’s REST API and MCP server create and edit campaigns with scoped access. MCP can also change delivery settings and publish. These builder interfaces do not read leads or analytics; a webhook sends subscriber details to a callback URL.

Support
OptiMonk documents live chat on Free and account management on higher plans. OptinMonster’s human-support offer should be assessed against the selected plan’s actual service terms. OptinMonster advertises human support. The channel, availability and assistance included with a selected subscription should be distinguished from managed campaign work. A support promise is not a guarantee of a particular response time or round-the-clock live chat. OptiMonk includes live chat on Free, while Premium and Master add an account manager. An account manager provides a different level of assistance from access to chat and can matter for teams running a larger optimization program.

Editor & workflow
OptinMonster requires a paid subscription to access the editor in the reviewed signup flow. Choose the feature tier before purchasing: Plus, Pro and Growth unlock different campaign controls rather than simply increasing traffic. OptiMonk opens its editor on Free and saves inactive drafts. Chat and Visual modes support revisions, with Undo, Redo and Saved versions. The in-app assistant generates concepts and changes designs and display settings.

Data & reporting
OptiMonk exposes explicit campaign and commerce goals. OptinMonster’s unconfirmed reporting operations should remain gaps rather than be inferred from its testing or connector list. OptinMonster’s campaign comparison and integration routes support evaluating capture campaigns. A signup total is different from downstream purchase value or email engagement. The scored reporting rows distinguish confirmed analytics and export operations from capabilities that remain unconfirmed; a connector does not establish a native reporting API.
OptiMonk supports Submit and Order goals alongside page visits, purchase value and add-to-cart value. Its subscriber area stores submitted contacts, with CSV and XLSX export. Commerce goals connect onsite campaigns with later store activity, rather than treating every button click as the same result.

Integrations
OptiMonk’s free offer includes integrations. OptinMonster places several named destinations and multi-provider delivery on Pro or higher, which can dominate the budget for a connected campaign. OptinMonster gates integration access by plan. HubSpot, Klaviyo, Zapier, webhooks and delivery to multiple providers are documented on Pro or higher. A simple email-list connection and a workflow sending the same response to several systems can therefore require different subscriptions.
OptiMonk’s provider menu includes Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive, Postscript, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier and Webhook. Its own subscriber list stores campaign responses. Email and SMS connectors make it a natural capture layer for a store that already has a lifecycle-marketing stack.

Shopify
OptiMonk has the more concrete Shopify merchandising workflow, including recommendations and automatic discount application. General website capture is a different requirement from those store operations. Installing a popup on a Shopify storefront is separate from reading its cart, generating a discount or adding a product. OptinMonster’s general lead-generation offer should be evaluated against the specific store operations in the table. Unconfirmed cart and coupon capabilities do not become supported merely because a campaign can appear on a store.
OptiMonk also has a native Shopify app. Cart conditions combine value, product count and specific products with AND logic. Its product features cover manually selected products, most-viewed and recently visited items, cart contents and smart recommendations. Shopify coupon support includes unique single-use codes, expiry settings and automatic application; wheel and scratch-card prizes use existing codes. Together these features support recommendation-led offers as well as signup incentives.

Pricing
OptiMonk counts website pageviews, while OptinMonster counts campaign impressions. Add OptinMonster’s annual commitment, renewal and any Growth-only requirement before deciding which is cheaper. OptinMonster Pro is advertised at a first-year equivalent of $37 per month, billed annually, for 25,000 campaign impressions and three sites. Renewal is $870 per year, or $72.50 per month on an equivalent basis. Growth is a higher tier for geolocation and wheels; Plus can cover simpler A/B-tested capture campaigns.
OptiMonk bills pageviews. Free covers 10,000 pageviews and one domain; Essential, Growth and Premium cover 20,000, 100,000 and 500,000 pageviews. Our account’s monthly prices were $29, $99 and $249. Published annual equivalents were $19, $69 and $179 per month, requiring annual payments of $228, $828 and $2,148. Targeting, A/B testing, integrations and unbranded popups are included even on Free. AI credits and domains also have plan limits.

The final score
OptiMonk is the stronger candidate for recommendation-led Shopify campaigns and experiments with a no-popup control. OptinMonster deserves consideration when site- and folder-scoped roles and a clear drafting-versus-publishing boundary are central. Compare the tier containing the required features and OptinMonster’s renewal, not just the entry prices.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to OptinMonster and OptiMonk in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
