A contact workflow or straightforward website messages?
Compare Poptin vs Hello Bar: popup forms, targeting, games, integrations, pricing and task-based ratings. See the differences that affect your campaign.
What do you need your website to do next?
Poptin and Hello Bar can both turn website traffic into contacts or send visitors to another page. Hello Bar’s bars, sliders and alerts make it relevant to compact messages. Poptin offers a broader contact workflow, including detailed properties and a separate email product.
The meaningful distinction is what happens around the conversion. Poptin exposes email checks, game settings and contact operations. Hello Bar can deliver leads to external providers, with webhook access tied to higher plans. A standalone notice does not need the same stack as a multistep signup.
Costs should be compared using consistent billing periods. Hello Bar Growth uses the monthly price in our scenarios, rather than the lower annual equivalent. Poptin’s visitor allowance and Growth contact model introduce their own capacity considerations.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
Hello Bar is particularly relevant to bars and compact alerts. Poptin combines promotional displays with embedded forms and a wider contact workflow. Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor. Hello Bar offers text-only announcements, top or bottom bars, sliders and floating alerts. A notice can retain its close control without asking for a signup or adding a destination button.

Forms
Poptin provides explicit contact-property types and email-address checks. Hello Bar’s custom inputs can collect simple preferences without establishing the same validation controls. Poptin offers name, email, phone, message, location, birthday and email-consent fields. Properties can use radio buttons, single-select controls and hidden values, with custom text, number, date, boolean and multiple-value properties. Email checks include format, typos and business-address rules. Double opt-in can inherit the account setting or be configured for the form. Hello Bar provides custom text, phone, dropdown and multiple-choice fields. Poptin adds explicit email-address checks and typed contact properties, making the resulting data model a useful distinction.

Surveys

Hello Bar collects custom text, dropdown answers and multiple selections alongside contact details. These fields suit short preference questions; dedicated survey scoring and answer-driven journeys need separate consideration.

Gamification
Poptin provides wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include prize labels, coupon codes, relative weights, losing outcomes and redirects. Weights of 2:1:1 displayed as 50%, 25% and 25%. Separate teaser, play, post-play, winning and losing screens give you control over the journey. The scratch setup we used revealed a fixed offer. Hello Bar has wheel, scratch and mystery-box campaigns, including configurable rewards and losing outcomes. Targeting
Poptin includes delay, exit intent, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers. Manual triggers fire when the first selected condition is met. Device, URL, country, frequency and schedules provide the basic audience controls. JavaScript, Autopilot, previous-page, cookie and other advanced conditions can require a paid plan. Hello Bar includes page, query, visit-history and geographic conditions. Poptin adds its own advanced rules with plan gates, so a campaign's complete condition set determines the relevant offer.

Experiments
Poptin creates an A/B variant from a completed campaign and groups the designs in one dashboard test. This is useful for comparing a headline, incentive or layout without managing two unrelated campaigns. The A/B command becomes available after the initial campaign setup. Hello Bar includes split testing on paid plans from Growth. Poptin offers a grouped campaign-variant workflow; advanced allocation and winner controls remain separate checks.

Email & SMS
Poptin Growth supplies native campaigns and automations. An external destination remains central to the Hello Bar follow-up route. Poptin Growth combines captured contacts with email campaigns and automations. Its canvas supports a confirmed-subscription trigger, source filters, Yes/No conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. Retrigger controls help manage repeat entry. The email editor includes columns, text, images, buttons, HTML, coupons and reusable blocks. Hello Bar's documented handoff uses an external provider. Poptin Growth can instead keep the captured contact and follow-up email in one product.

Team & sites
Poptin exposes users, subaccounts and account- or subaccount-scoped API keys. Its Users screen describes broad editing, deletion and billing access, while seat availability depends on the offer. On Agency, sub-account users cannot open Billing and Plans. Treat the user allowance and the popup-domain allowance as separate plan details. Hello Bar Growth includes three seats, with unlimited seats on higher tiers. Poptin's subaccounts provide a different form of organization for client or multi-brand work.

Developer
Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint. Hello Bar can send captured contact data to an endpoint through webhooks, listed for Premium and Elite. This is a delivery route for leads rather than an external campaign-management interface.

Support
Poptin includes chat and email support on Free, Basic and Pro; Growth and Agency add premium support. Support availability follows the product and plan you choose. Compare the channel you need rather than assuming “priority” means live chat or a guaranteed response time. A support upgrade can change the useful plan even when campaign capacity is sufficient.

Editor & workflow
Poptin includes editor access on Growth Free and saves campaigns as inactive drafts. Its visual controls let you configure elements, fields and buttons directly. Data & reporting
Poptin reports visitors, views and conversions, with email reporting in the email product. Scheduled lead and statistics reports include recipient, subaccount, interval and timezone settings. Its reporting API is useful when you want to bring results into an external dashboard or an agent workflow. Contact delivery and campaign analytics answer different questions: a successful sync tells you where the lead went, not whether a particular notice caused a sale. Define the event you need to measure before selecting the reporting route.

Integrations
Both connect capture to email providers. Hello Bar’s Zapier restriction for lists already linked to another provider matters when planning parallel delivery. Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, with Make and Zapier for additional workflows. Slack supports team notifications, and a webhook route can forward submissions. Its REST API offers another route to contacts and reporting. A store can therefore keep its existing email platform rather than moving to Poptin Growth. Hello Bar connects to providers including Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign and Kit; its FAQ places webhooks on Premium and Elite.

Shopify
Poptin has a native Shopify app. Cart item count, cart value, specific products, customer tags and login status can shape the audience. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Shopify cart triggers and post-purchase automations can start the next interaction. Popup buttons offer Add to cart. Coupon setup supports fixed codes and imported unique-code lists, including CSV and fallback codes. These controls suit targeted capture and straightforward cart offers. These products can be considered for general website notices, but their confirmed Popup capabilities do not establish a full Shopify customer, cart or discount workflow.

Pricing
The comparison uses Hello Bar’s monthly Growth price, not its annual equivalent. Poptin’s popup and Growth subscriptions should also be treated as separate offers. Poptin’s monthly popup plans are Basic at $25 for 10,000 visitors and one domain, Pro at $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains, and Agency at $119 for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains. Growth uses a separate contact-and-email model: the $19 bracket covers 500 contacts and 5,000 visitors, with unlimited emails and domains. Visitor allowances count visitors to installed pages, not just popup viewers. Hello Bar Growth costs $39 with monthly billing; $29 is the monthly equivalent under annual billing. The cost scenarios use monthly prices. Stored contacts and popup views must be forecast separately.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to Poptin and Hello Bar in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
