Poptin vs OptiMonk.
Which fits your website?

From signup forms and announcements to targeted offers, games and follow-up: how do Poptin and OptiMonk handle the work? We compare their editors, targeting, AI, integrations, testing and pricing, with a dedicated look at Shopify.

What do you need your website to do next?

A visitor might be ready to subscribe, ask about a service, answer a question or buy a product. You might want to announce something, make an offer, collect feedback or give someone a reason to return. Choosing between Poptin and OptiMonk starts with those jobs — and extends to what happens after someone clicks or submits a form.

A feature list only gets you so far. Two builders can both offer forms, yet collect different information. Both can offer targeting, yet give you different control over who sees a campaign and when. A game can reveal a fixed offer or distribute prizes by probability. An integration can save an email address or pass the fields your next workflow needs. These differences determine whether you can build the campaign you have in mind, and how much work it will take.

We compare the two platforms from creating a campaign through targeting, testing, collecting responses and following up. Along the way, we look at AI assistance and agent access, games, integrations, reporting, team controls and support. Shopify gets its own detailed comparison for sites that sell through it. Pricing covers traffic, plan restrictions and the separate cost of email follow-up. Each section explains the controls, the differences and what they mean for the task at hand.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 194 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor. OptiMonk generates campaign designs from a brief and offers desktop and mobile views. Notices, form content and display elements can then be revised for the intended campaign.

Forms

Poptin is the more detailed choice for configuring contact properties and email validation. OptiMonk makes generating a form convenient. Multi-step pages alone do not make either product an answer-driven product quiz. Poptin offers name, email, phone, message, location, birthday and email-consent fields. Properties can use radio buttons, single-select controls and hidden values, with custom text, number, date, boolean and multiple-value properties. Email checks include format, typos and business-address rules. Double opt-in can inherit the account setting or be configured for the form.

OptiMonk’s visual controls cover email, name, phone, radio choices, checkbox groups, comments, required fields and button destinations. AI can generate a multi-step form, but the required-field settings deserve attention: our request for an optional first name produced a required field. A separate form on our Shopify store rejected blank and malformed email and saved a valid response.

Gamification

Both wheels can include losing slices. Poptin is the clearer choice when separate winning and losing screens matter; OptiMonk suits a reveal built through the AI workflow. Do not copy the same weights between tools and assume they describe the same promotion.

Poptin provides wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include prize labels, coupon codes, relative weights, losing outcomes and redirects. Weights of 2:1:1 displayed as 50%, 25% and 25%. Separate teaser, play, post-play, winning and losing screens give you control over the journey. The scratch setup we used revealed a fixed offer.

OptiMonk provides a wheel and scratch-card controls in its AI builder. Wheel odds are calculated across winning slices, and a slice with an empty coupon code is a losing slice. Scratch settings allow up to four weighted prize rows, with designed, solid or gradient covers; the planner describes a prize on every play. Our 2:1 scratch weights produced 66.7% and 33.3%. Its wider documentation also lists a gift format.

Targeting

Both cover the common targeting jobs. OptiMonk also coordinates campaigns through priority and prior-exposure rules, and adds an AI layer over campaign settings. In Poptin, advanced-condition access is an important reason to choose the plan before building the campaign. Poptin includes delay, exit intent, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers. Manual triggers fire when the first selected condition is met. Device, URL, country, frequency and schedules provide the basic audience controls. JavaScript, Autopilot, previous-page, cookie and other advanced conditions can require a paid plan.

OptiMonk offers delay, exit intent, scroll, inactivity, click and custom DOM-event triggers. Its audience menu includes country, visitor history, source, UTM parameters, cookies, subscriber status and engagement with campaigns. You can also change settings by prompt: our move from a five-second delay on all devices to ten seconds on desktop preserved the existing URL condition. Frequency and campaign-priority controls help coordinate messages.

Experiments

Both support A/B creation. OptiMonk has the more useful documented experiment controls for a team that wants a no-popup holdout and a defined winner rule. Those controls are a product advantage; actual conversion lift depends on the campaign and traffic.

Poptin creates an A/B variant from a completed campaign and groups the designs in one dashboard test. This is useful for comparing a headline, incentive or layout without managing two unrelated campaigns. The A/B command becomes available after the initial campaign setup.

OptiMonk adds a no-popup control alongside a design, and traffic splits evenly between versions; a custom split is not available. Automatic winner settings include a 95% chance-to-win threshold, at least 200 conversions and three days. This gives an optimization team more explicit controls over the comparison and stopping rule.

Email & SMS

Choose Poptin Growth when you want popup capture and a native email workflow together. Choose the connected approach when your existing email platform already handles segmentation and follow-up well. Poptin Growth combines captured contacts with email campaigns and automations. Its canvas supports a confirmed-subscription trigger, source filters, Yes/No conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. Retrigger controls help manage repeat entry. The email editor includes columns, text, images, buttons, HTML, coupons and reusable blocks.

OptiMonk’s connection routes let you pass captured contacts to a dedicated email or SMS platform. For a store already using Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another provider, this keeps follow-up in the system that owns customer journeys and reporting. Budget for that provider alongside OptiMonk.

Team & sites

Both keep billing away from other users: OptiMonk through the Owner role, Poptin through Agency sub-account users. Poptin’s subaccount structure is relevant for agencies. Match the plan’s seats and account structure to your team rather than comparing domain counts alone.

Poptin exposes users, subaccounts and account- or subaccount-scoped API keys. Its Users screen describes broad editing, deletion and billing access, while seat availability depends on the offer. On Agency, sub-account users cannot open Billing and Plans. Treat the user allowance and the popup-domain allowance as separate plan details. OptiMonk invitations distinguish Member and Owner. Subscription, billing and usage management belong to the Owner role. That is a practical separation when one person manages campaigns and another controls the subscription.

Developer

Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint. OptiMonk’s REST API and MCP server create and edit campaigns with scoped access. MCP can also change delivery settings and publish. These builder interfaces do not read leads or analytics; a webhook sends subscriber details to a callback URL.

Support

Both offer direct support. Compare the channels and plan: Poptin lists chat and email across its popup plans, while OptiMonk adds account management on higher tiers. Poptin includes chat and email support on Free, Basic and Pro; Growth and Agency add premium support. Support availability follows the product and plan you choose. OptiMonk includes live chat on Free, while Premium and Master add an account manager. An account manager provides a different level of assistance from access to chat and can matter for teams running a larger optimization program.

Data & reporting

Poptin is attractive for scheduled reporting and external performance access. OptiMonk ties reporting to a range of campaign and commerce goals. Compare the same conversion event when judging results. Poptin reports visitors, views and conversions, with email reporting in the email product. Scheduled lead and statistics reports include recipient, subaccount, interval and timezone settings. Its reporting API is useful when you want to bring results into an external dashboard or an agent workflow.

OptiMonk offers Submit and Order goals, plus page visits, purchase value and add-to-cart value. The test-store campaign recorded an impression and a submitted contact, and the contact appeared in Submits. CSV and XLSX export commands support work outside the dashboard.

Integrations

Both fit an existing marketing stack. Pick by the exact destination and fields you need, not the length of a logo list. The integration directory below keeps email, CRM, team notifications and automation routes separate. Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, with Make and Zapier for additional workflows. Slack supports team notifications, and a webhook route can forward submissions. Its REST API offers another route to contacts and reporting. A store can therefore keep its existing email platform rather than moving to Poptin Growth.

OptiMonk’s provider menu includes Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive, Postscript, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier and Webhook. Its own subscriber list stores campaign responses. Email and SMS connectors make it a natural capture layer for a store that already has a lifecycle-marketing stack.

Shopify

OptiMonk has the stronger recommendation-led Shopify case. Poptin gives you customer and cart targeting plus a direct cart action. Use the capability table below to compare the individual operations rather than treating installation as a complete ecommerce feature set. Poptin has a native Shopify app. Cart item count, cart value, specific products, customer tags and login status can shape the audience. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Shopify cart triggers and post-purchase automations can start the next interaction. Popup buttons offer Add to cart. Coupon setup supports fixed codes and imported unique-code lists, including CSV and fallback codes. These controls suit targeted capture and straightforward cart offers.

OptiMonk also has a native Shopify app. Cart conditions combine value, product count and specific products with AND logic. Its product features cover manually selected products, most-viewed and recently visited items, cart contents and smart recommendations. Shopify coupon support includes unique single-use codes, expiry settings and automatic application; wheel and scratch-card prizes use existing codes. Together these features support recommendation-led offers as well as signup incentives.

Pricing

Poptin charges by visitors; OptiMonk charges by pageviews. If 10,000 people each open six pages in a month, that is 10,000 visitors but 60,000 pageviews. Traffic is only part of the price: removing branding or sending welcome emails can require a paid plan even on a small website. Promotional popups and A/B testing may already be included for free. The table matches both traffic and the stated features.

Poptin’s monthly popup plans are Basic at $25 for 10,000 visitors and one domain, Pro at $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains, and Agency at $119 for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains. Growth uses a separate contact-and-email model: the $19 bracket covers 500 contacts and 5,000 visitors, with unlimited emails and domains. Visitor allowances count visitors to installed pages, not just popup viewers.

OptiMonk bills pageviews. Free covers 10,000 pageviews and one domain; Essential, Growth and Premium cover 20,000, 100,000 and 500,000 pageviews. Our account’s monthly prices were $29, $99 and $249. Published annual equivalents were $19, $69 and $179 per month, requiring annual payments of $228, $828 and $2,148. Targeting, A/B testing, integrations and unbranded popups are included even on Free. AI credits and domains also have plan limits.

What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to Poptin and OptiMonk in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 194 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
