WooHoo vs OptiMonk.
Choosing a challenger or measuring incremental sales
Compare WooHoo and OptiMonk for Shopify popup variants, no-popup holdouts, visitor versus pageview costs and revenue measurement.
What do you need your website to do next?
The design team has picked a new headline. Finance wants to know why the store offers a discount in the first place. A competition between two designs can settle the headline question, even if both give away too much margin.
In WooHoo we saved a control and a duplicated challenger with separate codes. OptiMonk offers a no-campaign holdout as well as targeting and merchandising controls. Look at the decision you will make after reading the results: publish a better form, change the product offer or retire the discount.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
The gallery includes fullscreen campaigns, slide-ins and bars. The editor offers separate desktop and mobile design views and a teaser that can reopen the form. OptiMonk generates campaign designs from a brief and offers desktop and mobile views. Notices, form content and display elements can then be revised for the intended campaign.

Forms
Email Capture, Phone Capture and Coupon Reveal are separate steps in the multi-step template. Check which step records consent if a shopper leaves before the reward screen. OptiMonk collects email, name, phone, radio choices, checkbox-group answers and comments. Required-field settings and button destinations control the submission journey. Its AI builder can generate a multi-step form, while field mapping carries answers into a connected marketing service. Separate screens organise the questions but do not by themselves establish answer-driven branching.

Gamification
WooHoo’s gallery gives a designer different incentive formats. For an OptiMonk wheel specify how existing codes and the chances assigned to winning slices will preserve the advertised promotion. The wheel supports weighted prizes. Scratch and gift campaigns offer other ways to reveal an incentive inside the popup workflow.
OptiMonk provides a wheel and scratch-card controls in its AI builder. Wheel odds are calculated across winning slices, and a slice with an empty coupon code is a losing slice. Scratch settings allow up to four weighted prize rows, with designed, solid or gradient covers; the planner describes a prize on every play. Our 2:1 scratch weights produced 66.7% and 33.3%. Its wider documentation also lists a gift format.

Targeting
A merchant can select product, collection, cart and search pages or enter a URL pattern. Timing options include scroll depth, elapsed time, exit intent and inactivity. OptiMonk combines delay, exit intent, scroll, inactivity, click and custom-event triggers with country, visitor history, referral, UTM, cookies and subscriber conditions. Campaign priority and previous-exposure rules coordinate several messages. AI-assisted settings changes provide another way to edit timing and audience conditions without rebuilding the campaign.

Experiments
Use WooHoo for a comparison the designer can set up from an existing form. For the cost of offering any incentive, keep an eligible group unexposed and compare contribution after discounts in OptiMonk. We created a draft experiment on Free by duplicating the control. The challenger has its own coupon codes. A published challenger is required to start collecting results.
OptiMonk adds a no-popup control alongside a design, and traffic splits evenly between versions; a custom split is not available. Automatic winner settings include a 95% chance-to-win threshold, at least 200 conversions and three days. This gives an optimization team more explicit controls over the comparison and stopping rule.

Email & SMS
WooHoo lists native email campaigns and offers a reward-email action. Price the actual sending workload separately from the popup visitor allowance. OptiMonk’s connection routes let you pass captured contacts to a dedicated email or SMS platform. For a store already using Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another provider, this keeps follow-up in the system that owns customer journeys and reporting. Budget for that provider alongside OptiMonk.

Team & sites
The Shopify dashboard organizes campaigns for the connected store. A buyer sharing access with an agency should establish site boundaries and publishing rights before onboarding clients. OptiMonk invitations distinguish Member and Owner. Subscription, billing and usage management belong to the Owner role. That is a practical separation when one person manages campaigns and another controls the subscription.

Developer
A campaign can send a submission to a webhook URL. WooHoo also advertises a storefront JavaScript interface. Neither establishes account-wide campaign authoring through HTTP. OptiMonk’s REST API and MCP server create and edit campaigns with scoped access. MCP can also change delivery settings and publish. These builder interfaces do not read leads or analytics; a webhook sends subscriber details to a callback URL.

Support
The editor provides a chat entry and the pricing page lists email support. Test setup assistance early if an experiment must launch during a short promotion. OptiMonk includes live chat on Free, while Premium and Master add an account manager. An account manager provides a different level of assistance from access to chat and can matter for teams running a larger optimization program.

Editor & workflow
A merchant can save a draft, preview it and prepare a challenger without exposing either to shoppers. Changes to a live variant need coordination with the person reading the results. OptiMonk opens its editor on Free and saves inactive drafts. Chat and Visual modes support revisions, with Undo, Redo and Saved versions. Data & reporting
The reporting workflow separates subscribers and revenue. Choose the success metric before the split so a version that recruits more addresses can be judged against the business goal. OptiMonk supports Submit and Order goals alongside page visits, purchase value and add-to-cart value. Its subscriber area stores submitted contacts, with CSV and XLSX export. Commerce goals connect onsite campaigns with later store activity, rather than treating every button click as the same result.

Integrations
The editor offers destinations for Shopify Customers, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Omnisend, ActiveCampaign and Campaign Monitor. Decide whether WooHoo or the receiving provider sends the prize. OptiMonk’s provider menu includes Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive, Postscript, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier and Webhook. Its own subscriber list stores campaign responses. Email and SMS connectors make it a natural capture layer for a store that already has a lifecycle-marketing stack.
| Integrations | WooHoo | OptiMonk |
|---|---|---|
| +0.13 Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Omnisend, Campaign Monitor: Sync subscribers collected by a campaign to the selected email service. The WooHoo editor provides a separate connection for each provider. ActiveCampaign: The campaign editor offers an ActiveCampaign list destination for subscribers. | +0.13 Brevo, Selzy, Maileon, Mailigen, MailWizz, Listamester, Omnisend, The Marketer, WebGalamb: Connect the provider account, select a list and map signup fields to the destination. Some connectors retain older service names in the picker, including Sendinblue for Brevo. CleverReach: Authorize the CleverReach account, choose a recipient group and map the form fields. OptiMonk offers a double opt-in mode that requires selecting a confirmation form. A new recipient can therefore be present but inactive until they click the email. CM Commerce: Select CM Commerce (Conversio) on the campaign, supply the CM Commerce API key and choose a list. Map popup inputs and add fixed field values where useful. The list and mapping can be edited for an individual campaign without removing the account connection. SendGrid: Select SendGrid in the OptiMonk campaign’s integration settings and supply the SendGrid API key. The guide describes adding form subscribers to the mailing list but gives no field-by-field mapping. Confirm any extra attributes inside Marketing Contacts. AWeber: Authorize AWeber in the OptiMonk campaign, choose a list and match the campaign inputs to field identifiers from that list. The mapping options depend on both the form and the selected list. Create the destination field before building a signup around a reader’s preference. Campaign Monitor: Enter the Campaign Monitor API key, test the connection and choose the mailing list in the OptiMonk campaign. To identify form signups, the vendor describes creating a source custom field on the Campaign Monitor list, refreshing the field choices in OptiMonk and selecting it. GetResponse: Connect GetResponse with an API key in the campaign, select the receiving list and map the popup inputs. A static field lets the merchant send a fixed campaign identifier alongside each address. You can change the list for one campaign while keeping the account connection. Klaviyo: Connect Klaviyo, choose a list and map the signup fields. Collected answers follow that mapping; segmentation and follow-up stay in Klaviyo. Mailchimp: Connect Mailchimp, choose a list and map the signup fields. Collected answers follow that mapping; segmentation and follow-up stay in Mailchimp. | |
| SMS | — | +0.25 Attentive, Postscript: Send captured contacts to SMS marketing platforms. |
| CRM | — | +0.25 MiniCRM, SalesAutopilot: Send new subscribers to the selected destination; provider-specific settings apply. Keap: Connect Keap to the OptiMonk campaign, choose tags that already exist in Keap and map form inputs to contact fields. You can send fixed fields too. Configure the follow-up in Keap using the tag or value the form actually supplies. Ontraport: Use an Ontraport App ID and API key with permission to add contacts. Choose an optional tag in the OptiMonk campaign; if you create the tag in Ontraport, refresh the choices before saving. Submissions add contacts with the selected tag. Salesforce: Connect Salesforce in the campaign and choose the receiving record type. Email maps to the CRM email field; review the suggested mappings for other inputs or leave an input out. A static source value can identify every record submitted by this campaign. HubSpot: Connect HubSpot, choose a list and map the signup fields. Collected answers follow that mapping; segmentation and follow-up stay in HubSpot. |

Shopify
If a different item should enter the basket, check the product and recommendation actions in OptiMonk. If the product stays the same, WooHoo’s separate steps may be enough to compare alternative signup incentives. The Shopify app supports a theme extension and a customer-list destination. A coupon reveal screen alone does not establish automatic application to the cart.
OptiMonk also has a native Shopify app. Cart conditions combine value, product count and specific products with AND logic. Its product features cover manually selected products, most-viewed and recently visited items, cart contents and smart recommendations. Shopify coupon support includes unique single-use codes, expiry settings and automatic application; wheel and scratch-card prizes use existing codes. Together these features support recommendation-led offers as well as signup incentives.

Pricing
Model a visitor who browses ten pages and sees one invitation. WooHoo counts an eligible visitor. OptiMonk counts site pageviews, which matters on shops with large editorial sections. Free includes 500 monthly eligible visitors and A/B testing. Basic is $7.99 for 2,000 visitors on monthly billing. Several pageviews from the same visitor need not mean several visitors.
OptiMonk bills pageviews. Free covers 10,000 pageviews and one domain; Essential, Growth and Premium cover 20,000, 100,000 and 500,000 pageviews. Our account’s monthly prices were $29, $99 and $249. Published annual equivalents were $19, $69 and $179 per month, requiring annual payments of $228, $828 and $2,148. Targeting, A/B testing, integrations and unbranded popups are included even on Free. AI credits and domains also have plan limits.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to WooHoo and OptiMonk in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
