OptiMonk vs Personizely.
Which change actually moved the order?

Compare OptiMonk and Personizely for no-popup controls, widget and website tests, subscriber recognition and cart offers.

What do you need your website to do next?

A merchant changes the product page and adds a discount popup on the same morning. Orders rise. The result leaves two decisions unresolved: whether to keep giving away the discount and whether to roll out the new page to the rest of the catalogue.

OptiMonk can run a popup against a no-popup control and track order-related goals. Personizely covers widget experiments on Premium as well as broader website tests. Start with the change the merchant could reverse. Withholding a coupon and changing a product page are different experiments.

How the comparison works

15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.

Formats & content

OptiMonk generates campaign designs from a brief and offers desktop and mobile views. Notices, form content and display elements can then be revised for the intended campaign. Personizely offers popups, compact callouts, bars and embedded widgets. A coupon can be copied with a click, and text can use a visitor property with a fallback for anonymous traffic.

Forms

OptiMonk collects email, name, phone, radio choices, checkbox-group answers and comments. Required-field settings and button destinations control the submission journey. Its AI builder can generate a multi-step form, while field mapping carries answers into a connected marketing service. Separate screens organise the questions but do not by themselves establish answer-driven branching. A widget can collect a phone number, free text, single or multiple selections and separate consent choices. Responses are stored on visitor profiles, where a later submission may update a previous answer.

Surveys

OptiMonk supports multi-step product quizzes. Quiz support is assessed separately from NPS, star and other dedicated rating formats. Personizely supports NPS survey popups and preference questions. The widget contact export includes respondents who supplied an email or phone. It can therefore contain fewer rows than an anonymous survey received.

Gamification

OptiMonk provides a wheel and scratch-card controls in its AI builder. Wheel odds are calculated across winning slices, and a slice with an empty coupon code is a losing slice. Scratch settings allow up to four weighted prize rows, with designed, solid or gradient covers; the planner describes a prize on every play. Our 2:1 scratch weights produced 66.7% and 33.3%. Its wider documentation also lists a gift format. The prize wheel has weighted segments, retry and no-prize outcomes. Each segment can open a different reward step or start an automation.

Targeting

OptiMonk combines delay, exit intent, scroll, inactivity, click and custom-event triggers with country, visitor history, referral, UTM, cookies and subscriber conditions. Campaign priority and previous-exposure rules coordinate several messages. AI-assisted settings changes provide another way to edit timing and audience conditions without rebuilding the campaign. Rules cover URLs, subdomains, time windows and repeat exposure. A widget can open after inactivity or a hover, and stop appearing after a conversion.

Experiments

An A/B test between two coupon designs can pick the better design while both reduce margin. A no-popup group measures the entire campaign. To isolate the discount, run the same popup with and without the coupon and compare margin per eligible visitor using actual discounts and costs. For a Personizely test, establish whether the treatment is a widget, a URL or the underlying page.

OptiMonk adds a no-popup control alongside a design, and traffic splits evenly between versions; a custom split is not available. Automatic winner settings include a 95% chance-to-win threshold, at least 200 conversions and three days. This gives an optimization team more explicit controls over the comparison and stopping rule. Premium includes A/B testing of widgets. Essential includes other kinds of website tests, so access to a theme or URL test alone does not establish that a popup can be split-tested on that tier.

Email & SMS

OptiMonk’s connection routes let you pass captured contacts to a dedicated email or SMS platform. For a store already using Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another provider, this keeps follow-up in the system that owns customer journeys and reporting. Budget for that provider alongside OptiMonk. A form can write contact and consent fields to a visitor profile and send the contact to a connected email platform. The welcome sequence depends on how that destination uses the fields.

Team & sites

OptiMonk invitations distinguish Member and Owner. Subscription, billing and usage management belong to the Owner role. That is a practical separation when one person manages campaigns and another controls the subscription. The reviewed Premium offer includes ten websites. Each site has its own widgets, goals and campaigns, an important boundary when a team manages several storefronts.

Developer

OptiMonk documents campaign editing and publishing through its builder interfaces. Personizely documents activation controls for existing widgets. Give a campaign author and an operator separate briefs before choosing credentials. OptiMonk’s REST API and MCP server create and edit campaigns with scoped access. MCP can also change delivery settings and publish. These builder interfaces do not read leads or analytics; a webhook sends subscriber details to a callback URL. REST and MCP can read experiment results and start or stop an existing widget. OAuth permits read-only access. An account API key also permits start and stop across websites, so the credential type matters for a reporting integration.

Support

OptiMonk includes live chat on Free, while Premium and Master add an account manager. An account manager provides a different level of assistance from access to chat and can matter for teams running a larger optimization program. Essential and Premium both include email and chat support. The reason to upgrade for a popup program is usually the experiment or personalization controls.

Editor & workflow

OptiMonk opens its editor on Free and saves inactive drafts. Chat and Visual modes support revisions, with Undo, Redo and Saved versions. The in-app assistant generates concepts and changes designs and display settings. Data & reporting

OptiMonk supports Submit and Order goals alongside page visits, purchase value and add-to-cart value. Its subscriber area stores submitted contacts, with CSV and XLSX export. Commerce goals connect onsite campaigns with later store activity, rather than treating every button click as the same result. A widget report can distinguish views, submissions, contacts and revenue. A returning contact who submits an updated answer is a submission but does not become a new contact a second time.

Integrations

For CleverReach, OptiMonk’s confirmation-form selection helps when the immediate decision is who becomes an active recipient. Personizely also describes recognizing a reader arriving from an email. Budget time to configure that return path. OptiMonk’s provider menu includes Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive, Postscript, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier and Webhook. Its own subscriber list stores campaign responses. Email and SMS connectors make it a natural capture layer for a store that already has a lifecycle-marketing stack. Form and survey answers can update profile fields. Widget automations can send a webhook or act on a connected marketing list when a particular visitor interaction occurs.

Brevo, Selzy, Maileon, Mailigen, MailWizz, Listamester, Omnisend, The Marketer, WebGalamb: Connect the provider account, select a list and map signup fields to the destination. Some connectors retain older service names in the picker, including Sendinblue for Brevo. CleverReach: Authorize the CleverReach account, choose a recipient group and map the form fields. OptiMonk offers a double opt-in mode that requires selecting a confirmation form. A new recipient can therefore be present but inactive until they click the email. CM Commerce: Select CM Commerce (Conversio) on the campaign, supply the CM Commerce API key and choose a list. Map popup inputs and add fixed field values where useful. The list and mapping can be edited for an individual campaign without removing the account connection. SendGrid: Select SendGrid in the OptiMonk campaign’s integration settings and supply the SendGrid API key. The guide describes adding form subscribers to the mailing list but gives no field-by-field mapping. Confirm any extra attributes inside Marketing Contacts. AWeber: Authorize AWeber in the OptiMonk campaign, choose a list and match the campaign inputs to field identifiers from that list. The mapping options depend on both the form and the selected list. Create the destination field before building a signup around a reader’s preference. Campaign Monitor: Enter the Campaign Monitor API key, test the connection and choose the mailing list in the OptiMonk campaign. To identify form signups, the vendor describes creating a source custom field on the Campaign Monitor list, refreshing the field choices in OptiMonk and selecting it. GetResponse: Connect GetResponse with an API key in the campaign, select the receiving list and map the popup inputs. A static field lets the merchant send a fixed campaign identifier alongside each address. You can change the list for one campaign while keeping the account connection. Klaviyo: Connect Klaviyo, choose a list and map the signup fields. Collected answers follow that mapping; segmentation and follow-up stay in Klaviyo. Mailchimp: Connect Mailchimp, choose a list and map the signup fields. Collected answers follow that mapping; segmentation and follow-up stay in Mailchimp.

+0.13

Kit, Brevo, Omnisend, MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, Sender, Ometria, Zoho Marketing Automation: Use a form automation to send widget subscribers to the connected email platform. Ontraport: Personizely lists Ontraport for subscribers acquired through its list-building widgets. Connect the destination and inspect the receiving contact after a form submission. Its public listing does not establish a campaign-enrolment action or a mapping for a particular custom field. CM Commerce: Personizely lists CM Commerce separately as a destination for email subscribers from its popups. Check the actual subscriber list in the commerce account. The vendor listing confirms list growth; supported custom fields and the authentication steps are unspecified. CleverReach: Authorize CleverReach under Settings → Integrations and add the list action to the widget’s subscription form. For recognizing a subscriber who clicks back to the site, Personizely also documents adding a subscriber identifier to mailing links. Check the form action and returning-visitor setup separately. Dotdigital: Connect Dotdigital in Personizely and map the contact fields used by the widget. For recognition on a later visit, Personizely documents adding the Dotdigital contact ID parameter to links in outbound email. A new signup and a click back from a mailing are separate exchanges. Moosend: Connect Moosend in Personizely, then assign the list to the widget’s subscription form. Personizely also documents identifying a returning subscriber from an email link. Sending a new address to a list and recognizing the same reader later require separate setup. SendPulse: Use the SendPulse API ID and secret in Personizely’s integration settings. Edit the widget form and choose the destination list for the subscription action. Authorizing the account and assigning that action to a form are separate steps. SmartrMail: Connect a SmartrMail API token and select the destination list in the widget’s subscription action. Personizely recommends a manually created list for popup signups, separate from the customer list populated by the ecommerce integration. Mailjet: Enter the API key and secret for the correct Mailjet account in Personizely. Assign the selected list to the widget form. Personizely notes that the list label it shows can come from the first part of the email associated with the list. Sendlane: Connect a Sendlane API token, map Personizely custom fields and assign an action to the widget form. The available actions include adding a contact to a list and unsubscribing from a list. Inspect the action on a copied form before publishing it. iContact: Personizely lists iContact as a destination for its list-building widgets. Assign the receiving integration to the signup form and verify the address on the intended iContact list. The provider’s listing does not spell out a mapping for additional fields. GetResponse: Authorize GetResponse from Personizely’s integration settings, then add the GetResponse list action to the subscription form in the widget. That action determines where the new email address lands. The guide confirms list delivery but leaves autoresponder cycle-day handling open. AWeber: Connect the AWeber account in Settings → Integrations, authorize access, then select the AWeber action and list on the widget’s subscription form. The documented outcome is a subscriber on that list. Verify tags separately if the first message depends on one. SendGrid: Connect SendGrid using an API key in Personizely settings, then configure the SendGrid action on the widget’s subscription form and choose the list. This sends signup addresses to Marketing Contacts. Check any additional profile attributes on the receiving contact. Constant Contact: Authorize Constant Contact in Settings → Integrations, then edit the subscription form in the widget and select its action and destination list. Authorization alone does not assign the list. The guide demonstrates adding new contacts and leaves extra field mapping unspecified. Campaign Monitor: Authorize Campaign Monitor in the account integration settings, then select the list in the widget’s subscription form action. New subscribers are added to that list. Confirm the selected client and list for each widget when an agency manages several accounts. Mailchimp: Add a Mailchimp form automation, select a list and map fields explicitly. Choose Add to list for single opt-in or Add with confirmation for double opt-in. Unmapped values are not sent. Klaviyo: Form automation sends standard fields and custom properties. Subscribe to list records consent; Add to list does not. Confirmation follows list settings, and SMS needs form consent.

Choose an optional tag in the OptiMonk campaign; if you create the tag in Ontraport, refresh the choices before saving. Submissions add contacts with the selected tag. Salesforce: Connect Salesforce in the campaign and choose the receiving record type. Email maps to the CRM email field; review the suggested mappings for other inputs or leave an input out. What matters most to you?

Let’s put your priorities first

First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works

These scores are relative to OptiMonk and Personizely in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.

  1. Relative scores, not universal ratings

The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.

  2. One shared pool of 100 points

The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.

  3. How features earn points

If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.

  4. How prices earn points

Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.

  5. Which plans count

Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.

  6. How your priorities change the score

A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
