CleverReach Popup Integrations: Recipient Groups, Field Mapping and Double Opt-In
Compare four CleverReach popup connections. See how to choose a recipient group and confirmation form, map interests and check when a recipient becomes active.
A visitor signs up for a German-language catalogue and receives the confirmation email for a different brand. The address made it across. The mistake was choosing a confirmation form without checking which group, copy and sender went with it.
Treat the recipient group and the confirmation experience as one purchasing decision. A simple group transfer works for some teams. Others need to select the form that sends the confirmation or distinguish between an inactive signup and an active recipient.
Follow one recipient through confirmation
CleverReach provides its own forms. Configure a native form on the intended group and use its confirmation journey as a reference. Record the sender, language and destination after the visitor clicks. Then check which of those choices the external popup can reproduce.
OptiMonk exposes the group, opt-in mode and confirmation form. Sleeknote emphasizes list selection and mapping campaign inputs. Claspo also lets the merchant supply fixed values. These differences matter when two sites share one CleverReach account.
What should your CleverReach popup send?
| Requirement | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Recipient group | Use the exact group served by this newsletter. Editors may call it a list in the popup builder. |
| Confirmation form | Check the form associated with double opt-in and the actual language of its confirmation email. |
| Field scope | Inspect the chosen recipient group for the field that will hold a topic, location or other preference. |
4 popup tools with a recorded CleverReach connection
Sorted by Popup Papa’s absolute capability score out of 100. This measures the overall toolkit, not the depth of this one integration. Prices are the directory’s Papa pick plans, not guaranteed minimum connector prices. Check the connector tier and capacity before buying; CleverReach and any bridge subscription are separate.

Starting points for different needs
OptiMonk
Start here if selecting a particular CleverReach confirmation form is essential. Its integration describes how the recipient becomes active.
Sleeknote
Consider it for an existing campaign with inputs to map to a specific CleverReach list.
Claspo
Useful when the signup needs both a visitor’s choice and fixed context, such as a store code shared by all submissions.
How each connection works
Connection details and plan conditions are shown below. The field tables describe the popup editor; supported transfer depends on the connector.
OptiMonk
Connection to CleverReach
Authorize the CleverReach account, choose a recipient group and map the form fields. OptiMonk offers a double opt-in mode that requires selecting a confirmation form. A new recipient can therefore be present but inactive until they click the email.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Field mapping | Choose destination lists and map signup fields to email or CRM providers. |
| Phone field | The visual editor exposes a Phone field with a country selector. This establishes collection controls, not SMS consent or delivery. |
| Single choice | Radio options expose editable labels and recorded values. The connected field determines the choice type; switching type requires a new element. |
| Multiple choice | The native choice-group panel supports multiple checkbox options, with an optional required flag. |
| Consent checkbox | The test form rendered an unchecked, optional email-marketing checkbox. It is a recorded choice field.Email marketing consent · Privacy terms consent |
| Free text | The generated form includes an optional comment textarea. An AI revision removed an unwanted duplicate from the first page. |
| Email capture | The inspected email field exposes required-field and error-message settings. A separate Shopify test form rejected empty and malformed email and stored a valid synthetic response in OptiMonk. The earlier multi-step editor preview did not enforce validation. |
Papa’s take
A modest paid traffic tier for an active store; annual billing is cheaper.
Personizely
Connection to CleverReach
Authorize CleverReach under Settings → Integrations and add the list action to the widget’s subscription form. For recognizing a subscriber who clicks back to the site, Personizely also documents adding a subscriber identifier to mailing links. Check the form action and returning-visitor setup separately.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone field | The form editor offers a Phone field. This alone does not establish SMS subscription or delivery. |
| Free text | Custom fields include text and textarea for free-text answers. |
| Single choice | Custom fields include select and radio controls for one answer. |
| Multiple choice | A multiple-choice custom field type is available. |
| Consent checkbox | Separate email marketing, SMS marketing and privacy consent fields are available.Email marketing consent · SMS marketing consent · Privacy terms consent |
| Email capture | Collect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list. |
Papa’s take
Adds widget A/B testing and personalization; Essential has a different testing scope.
Sleeknote
Connection to CleverReach
Configure the CleverReach REST API connection in the campaign builder, choose the receiving list and map the campaign inputs to CleverReach fields. Save the integration and then the campaign itself. Check the mapped answer on a recipient in the selected group.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Field mapping | Map quiz answer values and question names to destination fields. |
| Phone field | The editor provides a Phone Input element separately from its SMS element. |
| SMS capture | A dedicated SMS element is available in the form editor. |
| Free text | Input and Textarea elements collect short or longer written answers. |
| Single choice | Radios, Dropdown and Answer Buttons provide choice-based responses. |
| Email capture | Collect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list. |
| Consent checkbox | Add a checkbox for consent alongside contact fields. |
Papa’s take
Core covers campaigns and testing; buy the Games package only if you need it. Pricing says monthly visitors, but the cookie documentation ties billing to sessions separated by 30 minutes. Confirm the counting rule before choosing a traffic tier.
Claspo
Connection to CleverReach
Connect CleverReach at the widget’s integration step and choose the receiving group. Map the required email field and any additional supported inputs; fixed values can identify the particular signup offer. Inspect both recipient activation and field values in CleverReach.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone field | The editor provides a Phone field. This establishes phone collection, not SMS marketing consent or delivery. |
| Free text | Text input and Text area collect short and long written answers; Calendar and Date fields are also available. |
| Single choice | Dropdown and Radio components collect a single selected answer. |
| Consent checkbox | The component library includes Checkbox and Data processing and terms of use controls. |
| Hidden fields | Attach hidden fields to the widget submission through the editor’s hidden-field settings. |
| Email capture | The editor provides an Email field and a separate signup page in the inspected game template. |
Papa’s take
Removes branding and leaves room for a growing store. Shopify pricing is used here. Team invitations are documented for the web app, but its help center excludes Shopify accounts.
How the connection changes the workflow
Example setups using the connections described above.
Two newsletters in different languages
Choose the group and confirmation form for each newsletter. Use the language field to personalize later content if needed, but inspect the confirmation message first: it can be generated before any later segmentation takes effect.
Sign up from both language pages and leave one address unconfirmed. Compare popup submissions, inactive recipients and active subscribers. Only the last count tells the mailing team how many new readers can receive the issue.
Recognize a subscriber who comes back from a mailing
Personizely documents adding an identifier to links in the outgoing email so a returning visitor can be recognized. Set that up separately from the action that sends the original signup to the group.
Send an actual test newsletter, follow the link and check whether the existing subscriber sees the intended campaign. Also visit the same page in a fresh browser. Showing a different offer to an identified reader is useful only if first-time visitors still get a signup.
Head-to-head comparisons for CleverReach users
These comparisons cover the popup tools as a whole. Use them to compare forms, targeting and costs alongside the connection details above.
OptiMonk vs Personizely
Compare selecting a confirmation form at signup with recognizing a subscriber who comes back from a mailing.
OptiMonk vs Claspo
A bilingual campaign needs the right confirmation email and a stored language. See which controls each team will use.
Personizely vs Claspo
Decide whether to personalize the next visit or attach the same store identifier to everyone joining from one widget.
Check the whole journey before launch
Use a small test campaign with addresses you control. Check the receiving record and the follow-up, not only the popup’s success message.
- Inspect the target group and matching data fields before publishing.
- Open the confirmation email from each language version.
- Compare recipient state before and after clicking the confirmation.
- Follow an outbound email link when testing returning-subscriber targeting.
Common questions
Can a signup exist before it is active?
Yes. OptiMonk’s double opt-in setup can create an inactive recipient and use a CleverReach form to send confirmation. Inspect both stages when reconciling the reports.
Can two popups share a group but carry different sources?
Claspo and OptiMonk document field mapping. Use a dedicated source field and verify two distinct values if the mailings share a group.
Do I need a third-party form for a basic newsletter?
Try the CleverReach form on the intended group first. Consider another tool if the display rules, multistep questions or targeting justify the extra subscription.
