Poptin vs Personizely.
A welcome email or a different return visit?
Compare Poptin and Personizely for subscriber follow-up, visitor recognition, widget testing and client reporting.
What do you need your website to do next?
A shopper joins a newsletter from a popup, then comes back through a link in the first email. The email team wants to send that message on time. The storefront team wants the returning subscriber to see a relevant offer instead of the original signup.
Poptin Growth can handle the confirmed subscription and welcome sequence, while its popup plans can send the lead to another provider. Personizely can retain preferences on a visitor profile. With supported email integrations such as Moosend, identification on the return visit also depends on the link in the outgoing email.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor. Personizely offers popups, compact callouts, bars and embedded widgets. A coupon can be copied with a click, and text can use a visitor property with a fallback for anonymous traffic.

Forms
A shopper may change their preference from menswear to gifts. Personizely can update the visitor profile. For a Poptin form feeding a mailer, check which value the receiving subscriber record retains. Poptin offers name, email, phone, message, location, birthday and email-consent fields. Properties can use radio buttons, single-select controls and hidden values, with custom text, number, date, boolean and multiple-value properties. Email checks include format, typos and business-address rules. Double opt-in can inherit the account setting or be configured for the form. A widget can collect a phone number, free text, single or multiple selections and separate consent choices. Responses are stored on visitor profiles, where a later submission may update a previous answer.

Surveys
Poptin can collect customer answers through form fields. Dedicated feedback ratings and quiz formats are evaluated separately from ordinary signup questions. Personizely supports NPS survey popups and preference questions. The widget contact export includes respondents who supplied an email or phone. It can therefore contain fewer rows than an anonymous survey received.

Gamification
Poptin provides wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include prize labels, coupon codes, relative weights, losing outcomes and redirects. Weights of 2:1:1 displayed as 50%, 25% and 25%. Separate teaser, play, post-play, winning and losing screens give you control over the journey. The scratch setup we used revealed a fixed offer. The prize wheel has weighted segments, retry and no-prize outcomes. Each segment can open a different reward step or start an automation.

Targeting
Poptin includes delay, exit intent, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers. Manual triggers fire when the first selected condition is met. Device, URL, country, frequency and schedules provide the basic audience controls. JavaScript, Autopilot, previous-page, cookie and other advanced conditions can require a paid plan. Rules cover URLs, subdomains, time windows and repeat exposure. A widget can open after inactivity or a hover, and stop appearing after a conversion.

Experiments
Poptin sets up a variant from a completed campaign. Personizely puts widget tests on Premium. A team buying Personizely for broader site tests should include the popup itself in the trial brief. Poptin creates an A/B variant from a completed campaign and groups the designs in one dashboard test. This is useful for comparing a headline, incentive or layout without managing two unrelated campaigns. The A/B command becomes available after the initial campaign setup. Premium includes A/B testing of widgets. Essential includes other kinds of website tests, so access to a theme or URL test alone does not establish that a popup can be split-tested on that tier.

Email & SMS
Poptin Growth combines captured contacts with email campaigns and automations. Its canvas supports a confirmed-subscription trigger, source filters, Yes/No conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. Retrigger controls help manage repeat entry. The email editor includes columns, text, images, buttons, HTML, coupons and reusable blocks. A form can write contact and consent fields to a visitor profile and send the contact to a connected email platform. The welcome sequence depends on how that destination uses the fields.

Team & sites
Poptin exposes users, subaccounts and account- or subaccount-scoped API keys. Its Users screen describes broad editing, deletion and billing access, while seat availability depends on the offer. On Agency, sub-account users cannot open Billing and Plans. Treat the user allowance and the popup-domain allowance as separate plan details. The reviewed Premium offer includes ten websites. Each site has its own widgets, goals and campaigns, an important boundary when a team manages several storefronts.

Developer
Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint. REST and MCP can read experiment results and start or stop an existing widget. OAuth permits read-only access. An account API key also permits start and stop across websites, so the credential type matters for a reporting integration.

Support
Poptin includes chat and email support on Free, Basic and Pro; Growth and Agency add premium support. Support availability follows the product and plan you choose. Editor & workflow
Poptin includes editor access on Growth Free and saves campaigns as inactive drafts. Its visual controls let you configure elements, fields and buttons directly. The editor lets a team compose a widget from steps and elements, then attach conditional actions to visitor interactions. Existing widgets can be operated externally, while their design is edited in the dashboard.

Data & reporting
An agency sending weekly lead totals can use Poptin’s scheduled reporting. A Personizely survey can also collect anonymous answers, so a contact export and a response total may legitimately differ. Poptin reports visitors, views and conversions, with email reporting in the email product. Scheduled lead and statistics reports include recipient, subaccount, interval and timezone settings. Its reporting API is useful when you want to bring results into an external dashboard or an agent workflow. A widget report can distinguish views, submissions, contacts and revenue. A returning contact who submits an updated answer is a submission but does not become a new contact a second time.

Integrations
Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, with Make and Zapier for additional workflows. Slack supports team notifications, and a webhook route can forward submissions. Its REST API offers another route to contacts and reporting. A store can therefore keep its existing email platform rather than moving to Poptin Growth. Form and survey answers can update profile fields. Widget automations can send a webhook or act on a connected marketing list when a particular visitor interaction occurs.

|---|---|---|
| +0.13 SmartrMail: Copy the API key from SmartrMail’s integration settings and the list ID from the subscriber list URL. Enter both under Email and Integrations on the poptin and approve. The guide confirms lead delivery to the list but gives no complete extra-field map. Kit: Authorize Kit or enter an API key, then select a form to receive name, email and phone. The Kit form’s confirmation-email settings determine whether subscribers must confirm before joining. Brevo: Connect with a v3 API key and list ID to send name, email and phone. Names split into first and last name; the SMS attribute requires a phone number with its country prefix. ActiveCampaign, ActiveTrail, Benchmark, Drip, E-goi, Ecomail, Elastic Email, Emma, Gist, MailerLite, Mailgun, Omnisend, Sendloop: Send new popup contacts to the connected email platform for follow-up. The integration selector is included in Growth Free; custom-field transfer depends on the selected connector. CM Commerce: Enter the CM Commerce API key and the target list ID in the poptin’s integration settings. The guide lists name, email, phone and message and sends a test lead after setup. Choose the CM Commerce integration when configuring this route. Customer.io: Use the workspace Site ID, API key and segment ID in the Customer.io integration for the poptin. Its guide lists name, email, phone and message and sends a test lead on successful setup. Check the person in the intended workspace and segment. Dotdigital: Enter the Dotdigital API user email, password, regional endpoint and address book ID under the popup’s Email and Integrations settings. After publishing, Poptin sends a test lead to that book. Its guide lists name, email, phone and message as supported fields. EmailOctopus: In EmailOctopus, copy the list ID and the field tag for first name. Enter both with the API key in Poptin. Poptin documents name, email, phone and message; check the actual destination field before using any of them in a template. iContact: Enter the app credentials, account ID, folder ID and list ID for the intended iContact account in Poptin. The list ID can be copied from the list URL. The documented fields are name, email and phone. Mailjet: Copy the Mailjet API key, secret and contact list ID into the poptin’s integration settings and approve the connection. This directs new email signups to the chosen list. Validate any optional answers on the contact before building a segment around them. Moosend: Choose Moosend in the popup’s Email and Integrations settings and enter the API key and list ID. The guide confirms list delivery, but its field note names a different provider. Verify optional fields using a real submission before depending on them. SendFox: Generate a SendFox personal access token, copy the list ID and enter both in the poptin’s integration settings. Save the popup and look for its API test lead in that list. Poptin specifies name and email for this connector. Sendlane: On the individual popup, enter the Sendlane list ID, API key, hash key and subdomain described in Poptin’s setup guide. This route sends signups to that list. Check which credentials your account exposes before following this older setup in a new account. SendPulse: Open Email and Integrations on the poptin, choose SendPulse and supply the account’s API credentials. SendPulse documents choosing the email list that receives new form responses. Verify extra answers in that address book before treating them as campaign variables. AWeber: Authenticate AWeber in the poptin’s Email and Integrations settings, choose the list, approve and save the changes. Poptin’s connector guide names Email and Message as the supported fields. Check a different connector if several structured answers must reach AWeber separately. Campaign Monitor: Copy the API key and the list API ID into the popup’s Email and Integrations settings. Poptin documents sending name, email address, phone and message. The list ID identifies the destination, so a copied client campaign needs its own settings checked. Constant Contact: In the popup editor, open Email and Integrations, add Constant Contact and select the email list for new subscribers. Poptin documents signup delivery there. Its walkthrough does not enumerate optional fields, so inspect a contact before relying on a phone number or a preference. GetResponse: In Email and Integrations, enter the GetResponse API key and the target list’s token. Save the popup and look for Poptin’s test lead in that list. Poptin specifies name and email and explicitly excludes the phone field for this connector. SendGrid: Enter a SendGrid API key and the list ID from Marketing → Contacts in the poptin’s integration settings. Poptin sends a test lead to the selected list and documents name, email and phone. Verify a real form submission separately from the setup test. Klaviyo: Choose a Klaviyo list to receive name, email, phone and custom properties. SMS needs consent and confirmation; invalid phone numbers can prevent list membership. Mailchimp: Connect Mailchimp, select tags and groups, and enable updates for returning contacts if needed. Message and consent values use text merge fields named MESSAGE and CONSENT. | +0.13 Kit, Brevo, Omnisend, MailerLite, ActiveCampaign, Sender, Ometria, Zoho Marketing Automation: Use a form automation to send widget subscribers to the connected email platform. Ontraport: Personizely lists Ontraport for subscribers acquired through its list-building widgets. Connect the destination and inspect the receiving contact after a form submission. Its public listing does not establish a campaign-enrolment action or a mapping for a particular custom field. CM Commerce: Personizely lists CM Commerce separately as a destination for email subscribers from its popups. Check the actual subscriber list in the commerce account. The vendor listing confirms list growth; supported custom fields and the authentication steps are unspecified. CleverReach: Authorize CleverReach under Settings → Integrations and add the list action to the widget’s subscription form. For recognizing a subscriber who clicks back to the site, Personizely also documents adding a subscriber identifier to mailing links. Check the form action and returning-visitor setup separately. Dotdigital: Connect Dotdigital in Personizely and map the contact fields used by the widget. For recognition on a later visit, Personizely documents adding the Dotdigital contact ID parameter to links in outbound email. A new signup and a click back from a mailing are separate exchanges. Moosend: Connect Moosend in Personizely, then assign the list to the widget’s subscription form. Personizely also documents identifying a returning subscriber from an email link. Sending a new address to a list and recognizing the same reader later require separate setup. SendPulse: Use the SendPulse API ID and secret in Personizely’s integration settings. Edit the widget form and choose the destination list for the subscription action. Authorizing the account and assigning that action to a form are separate steps. SmartrMail: Connect a SmartrMail API token and select the destination list in the widget’s subscription action. Personizely recommends a manually created list for popup signups, separate from the customer list populated by the ecommerce integration. Mailjet: Enter the API key and secret for the correct Mailjet account in Personizely. Assign the selected list to the widget form. Personizely notes that the list label it shows can come from the first part of the email associated with the list. Sendlane: Connect a Sendlane API token, map Personizely custom fields and assign an action to the widget form. The available actions include adding a contact to a list and unsubscribing from a list. Inspect the action on a copied form before publishing it. iContact: Personizely lists iContact as a destination for its list-building widgets. Assign the receiving integration to the signup form and verify the address on the intended iContact list. The provider’s listing does not spell out a mapping for additional fields. GetResponse: Authorize GetResponse from Personizely’s integration settings, then add the GetResponse list action to the subscription form in the widget. That action determines where the new email address lands. The guide confirms list delivery but leaves autoresponder cycle-day handling open. AWeber: Connect the AWeber account in Settings → Integrations, authorize access, then select the AWeber action and list on the widget’s subscription form. The documented outcome is a subscriber on that list. Verify tags separately if the first message depends on one. SendGrid: Connect SendGrid using an API key in Personizely settings, then configure the SendGrid action on the widget’s subscription form and choose the list. This sends signup addresses to Marketing Contacts. Check any additional profile attributes on the receiving contact. Constant Contact: Authorize Constant Contact in Settings → Integrations, then edit the subscription form in the widget and select its action and destination list. Authorization alone does not assign the list. The guide demonstrates adding new contacts and leaves extra field mapping unspecified. Campaign Monitor: Authorize Campaign Monitor in the account integration settings, then select the list in the widget’s subscription form action. New subscribers are added to that list. Confirm the selected client and list for each widget when an agency manages several accounts. Mailchimp: Add a Mailchimp form automation, select a list and map fields explicitly. Choose Add to list for single opt-in or Add with confirmation for double opt-in. Unmapped values are not sent. Klaviyo: Form automation sends standard fields and custom properties. Subscribe to list records consent; Add to list does not. Confirmation follows list settings, and SMS needs form consent. | |

| CRM | +0.13 Agile CRM, Fireberry, Freshsales, LeadSquared, Nutshell, Salesflare: Route new contacts to sales tools. Keap: Authenticate Keap in the poptin’s integration settings and publish the changes. Poptin lists name, email and phone and sends an API test lead to the contact database. A contact arriving in Keap is the starting point for checking any sales or messaging automation. Pipedrive: Authorize Pipedrive from the popup and save the integration. Name, email and phone are supported; deal name and deal stage are optional settings. Poptin sends a test contact after setup. Inspect the pipeline as well if you enabled deal creation. Zoho CRM: Sign in to Zoho CRM from the popup’s integration settings and authorize access. Poptin documents name, email and phone and sends a test entry to Zoho CRM Leads. Look there first when checking a new enquiry. Salesforce: Authenticate Salesforce under the poptin’s Email and Integrations settings and map the form fields. Poptin requires a mapping for Company. Make sure the form actually collects a usable value before choosing this route for a business enquiry. HubSpot: The CRM route sends name, email and phone, with optional contact updates. Shopify
Poptin has a native Shopify app. Cart item count, cart value, specific products, customer tags and login status can shape the audience. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Shopify cart triggers and post-purchase automations can start the next interaction. Popup buttons offer Add to cart. Coupon setup supports fixed codes and imported unique-code lists, including CSV and fallback codes. These controls suit targeted capture and straightforward cart offers. Widgets can add a selected product to the cart, apply a discount and create a Shopify customer. Product pickers read variants and collections. Add-to-cart and checkout-start events can be measured as distinct goals.

Pricing
Poptin’s monthly popup plans are Basic at $25 for 10,000 visitors and one domain, Pro at $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains, and Agency at $119 for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains. Growth uses a separate contact-and-email model: the $19 bracket covers 500 contacts and 5,000 visitors, with unlimited emails and domains. Visitor allowances count visitors to installed pages, not just popup viewers. Premium costs $59 per month at the reviewed 10,000-visitor allowance and includes ten sites. Essential is $39 at that traffic level. Widget experiments are one reason to budget for Premium.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to Poptin and Personizely in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
