Moosend Popup Integrations: Mailing Lists, Custom Fields and Reader Preferences
Compare three popup routes into Moosend. Check list IDs, map a subscriber’s answer and verify the field used by your newsletter or automation.
A garden centre asks whether a subscriber grows vegetables or flowers. The next mailing has different content for each group. Capturing the email is only half the job: the answer has to reach the field that Moosend uses to build the audience.
Start from a real mailing or automation. Open its personalization or segment settings and find the target list and field. Then choose a connection whose editor can send that value, or use a shorter form if the newsletter sends everyone the same edition.
Work backwards from a Moosend mailing list
Moosend’s help documents custom fields on a mailing list for personalization and segmentation. For the garden newsletter, a field can preserve a reader’s interest. A source value can separately identify the promotion, such as a spring planting guide. Combining both into an unstructured message makes the next audience harder to select.
Poper documents list selection and a mapping step. Poptin documents the API key and list ID, although its optional-field note names a different provider. Personizely also covers recognizing a subscriber who returns through an email link. Those distinctions narrow the choice without relying on the overall popup rating alone.
What should your Moosend popup send?
| Requirement | What to look for |
|---|---|
| List ID | Copy it from the intended Moosend mailing list and confirm it after duplicating a popup for another campaign. |
| Custom field | Check the field name, type and value on the list used by the mailing. A matching label in the popup is only the starting point. |
| Returning subscriber | Test whether the new answer updates an existing record and whether the current automation should run again. |
3 popup tools with a recorded Moosend connection
Sorted by Popup Papa’s absolute capability score out of 100. This measures the overall toolkit, not the depth of this one integration. Prices are the directory’s Papa pick plans, not guaranteed minimum connector prices. Check the connector tier and capacity before buying; Moosend and any bridge subscription are separate.

Starting points for different needs
Poper
Shortlist it for a form collecting interests. The guide documents fetching Moosend lists and mapping fields before saving.
Personizely
Useful when the site also needs to recognize known subscribers coming back from a newsletter. Configure the outbound email link as well as the signup action.
Poptin
Try it for a basic list signup with a known API key and list ID. Validate any extra field on the receiving subscriber before promising personalization.
How each connection works
Connection details and plan conditions are shown below. The field tables describe the popup editor; supported transfer depends on the connector.
Poptin
Connection to Moosend
Choose Moosend in the popup’s Email and Integrations settings and enter the API key and list ID. The guide confirms list delivery, but its field note names a different provider. Verify optional fields using a real submission before depending on them.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Single choice | The inspected field offers Radio and Single-select display modes, with editable option labels and values. This confirms one selected answer; it does not establish a scored quiz or rating scale. |
| Email double opt-in | Choose a double opt-in setting for the popup or inherit the account setting. |
| Phone field | Collect a phone number in a dedicated contact field. |
| Free text | Collect a written response with the Message field. |
| Consent checkbox | Add an Email Consent checkbox alongside the signup fields. |
| Hidden fields | Set an input field to Hidden instead of displaying it to visitors. |
| Email capture | Collect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list. |
Papa’s take
Unbranded popup campaigns with a practical visitor allowance. Email bundles are separate.
Personizely
Connection to Moosend
Connect Moosend in Personizely, then assign the list to the widget’s subscription form. Personizely also documents identifying a returning subscriber from an email link. Sending a new address to a list and recognizing the same reader later require separate setup.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone field | The form editor offers a Phone field. This alone does not establish SMS subscription or delivery. |
| Free text | Custom fields include text and textarea for free-text answers. |
| Single choice | Custom fields include select and radio controls for one answer. |
| Multiple choice | A multiple-choice custom field type is available. |
| Consent checkbox | Separate email marketing, SMS marketing and privacy consent fields are available.Email marketing consent · SMS marketing consent · Privacy terms consent |
| Email capture | Collect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list. |
Papa’s take
Adds widget A/B testing and personalization; Essential has a different testing scope.
Poper
Connection to Moosend
Enter the Moosend API key in Poper, retrieve the account’s lists and select one. Map form inputs to Moosend fields before saving. Open a subscriber on that list to check the value used by the next segment or personalized mailing.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone field | Popup and standalone form editors offer a Phone field. This establishes number collection, not SMS consent or message delivery. |
| Free text | Standalone forms and surveys offer Short Text and Long Text fields for written answers. |
| Single choice | Dropdown and Radio controls are available in the popup, form and survey editors. |
| Multiple choice | The form and survey logic library offers a Checkbox Group for multiple choices. |
| Consent checkbox | The standalone form and survey libraries include a Terms control; popup forms offer a Checkbox element. Consent wording needs configuring for the intended use. |
| Hidden fields | The popup integration step offers hidden inputs. Forms and surveys also expose Hidden fields and a dedicated settings section. |
| Email capture | The AI-generated popup contains an email field. The Plinko editor also has an email gate before play. |
Papa’s take
Pro adds tests, games and integrations. The inspected monthly price is a promotion; confirm the traffic definition and ongoing rate before paying.
How the connection changes the workflow
Example setups using the connections described above.
Turn a signup preference into a usable segment
Create the target field before publishing the question. Submit vegetables from one address and flowers from another, then open the audience filter for each edition. If both contacts appear but only one value appears in the segment, inspect the stored values and mapping.
Test a third reader who skips the question. Give that reader a valid default experience in the email. Otherwise a successful signup can produce a message with an empty heading or no useful content.
Show returning readers the right onsite invitation
Configure the Moosend subscription action first. Separately, follow Personizely’s instructions for identifying a visitor who comes back from a mailing. A contact reaching Moosend on Monday does not automatically identify every browser session on Friday.
Send an actual test newsletter and visit the site through its link. Compare that experience with a clean browser arriving from search. Existing readers might merit a preferences prompt while new readers still need a signup offer.
Head-to-head comparisons for Moosend users
These comparisons cover the popup tools as a whole. Use them to compare forms, targeting and costs alongside the connection details above.
Poptin vs Poper
Compare a signup using a known list ID with retrieving Moosend lists and mapping interests in the editor.
Poptin vs Personizely
Decide who should send the welcome email and whether subscribers should see a different offer when they return.
Personizely vs Poper
Compare recognizing a subscriber after a Moosend email click with collecting preferences for the next mailing.
Check the whole journey before launch
Use a small test campaign with addresses you control. Check the receiving record and the follow-up, not only the popup’s success message.
- Find the submitted email on the correct mailing list.
- Inspect the value and type used by the newsletter segment.
- Update an existing reader’s preference and check the next mailing.
- Test a link from an actual email if the site recognizes returning subscribers.
Common questions
Can a Moosend custom field personalize a campaign?
Yes. Moosend documents using list custom fields as personalization tags and segment criteria. The popup route must populate the field used in that campaign.
Do all three connectors document the same optional fields?
Their guides differ. Poper documents a field map; Poptin documents the list connection but its field note is ambiguous. Check any essential answer on a real contact.
Which test distinguishes signup sync from visitor recognition?
First submit from a new browser and inspect Moosend. Then visit through a link in a sent newsletter and inspect the onsite campaign. Those are different data paths.
