Privy vs Poptin.
Store marketing or a flexible capture layer?
Compare Privy and Poptin for signup forms, games, Shopify audiences, native email, agency accounts and pricing by pageviews, visitors or contacts.
What do you need your website to do next?
Privy and Poptin both offer popup capture and an email product, so this is not simply a choice between a form builder and a sender. The useful distinction is how closely the campaign needs to follow a store’s customers, products and events, or serve several different websites and clients.
Privy’s displays sit naturally within an ecommerce marketing programme, with Shopify data and an Email + SMS package. Poptin combines detailed contact properties, address checks and several game formats with popup-only subscriptions and a separate Growth offer.
The pricing paths can look deceptively similar until the counters are named. Privy Displays counts pageviews; Poptin popup plans count visitors. Their messaging offers instead introduce contact-based limits. This comparison separates those buying routes and the permissions available to the people running them.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
Privy uses onsite displays to capture subscribers and present offers. The table separates individual display formats and content controls from the email workflows that follow a signup. Poptin provides popups and embedded forms, with desktop and mobile layouts. Campaign elements can be arranged directly in the visual editor.

Forms
Privy adds store-oriented opt-in and duplicate controls. Poptin provides detailed property types and email rules such as typo and business-address checks. Privy collects email, phone, text, date, radio, dropdown and checkbox fields, with separate email and text opt-in fields. Hidden attributes record UTM values or custom data, and Mini Quiz steps store a preference answer on the contact. Double opt-in, one-signup-per-contact rules and invisible reCAPTCHA protect the list.
Poptin offers name, email, phone, message, location, birthday and email-consent fields. Properties can use radio buttons, single-select controls and hidden values, with custom text, number, date, boolean and multiple-value properties. Email checks include format, typos and business-address rules. Double opt-in can inherit the account setting or be configured for the form.

Gamification
Poptin offers wheel, gift and scratch formats. Privy focuses on Spin to Win with per-slice settings and optional losing outcomes. Privy’s Spin to Win sets a label, coupon, win ratio and result text for each slice, and slices can be winning or losing. The wheel can sit behind an email step, with desktop and mobile tabs to reopen it.
Poptin provides wheel, gift and scratch formats. Wheel and gift settings include prize labels, coupon codes, relative weights, losing outcomes and redirects. Weights of 2:1:1 displayed as 50%, 25% and 25%. Separate teaser, play, post-play, winning and losing screens give you control over the journey. The scratch setup we used revealed a fixed offer.

Targeting
Both cover everyday timing and audience filters. Privy’s rules connect with other displays; Poptin offers a wider set of manual triggers with paid access for some advanced conditions. Privy opens displays on page load, after a delay, at a scroll depth or on exit intent. Audience rules combine current, initial and referring URLs, country, region or postal code, device, sessions and pageviews with AND/OR logic. Frequency settings, signup limits, schedules by date, weekday and time, and rules based on other displays keep campaigns apart.
Poptin includes delay, exit intent, scroll, page count, click count and inactivity triggers. Manual triggers fire when the first selected condition is met. Device, URL, country, frequency and schedules provide the basic audience controls. JavaScript, Autopilot, previous-page, cookie and other advanced conditions can require a paid plan.

Experiments
Both compare display variants. Privy exposes traffic and stopping controls; Poptin creates a grouped test from an existing completed campaign. Privy runs display experiments with a set traffic allocation, stopped after a number of days or participants, and marks the variation with the highest conversion rate.
Poptin creates an A/B variant from a completed campaign and groups the designs in one dashboard test. This is useful for comparing a headline, incentive or layout without managing two unrelated campaigns. The A/B command becomes available after the initial campaign setup.

Email & SMS
Privy’s messaging package includes email and SMS workflows. Poptin Growth provides native email automation, but its popup-only subscription is a separate offer. Privy’s Email + SMS plan adds campaigns, segments and flows for welcome, cart, checkout, browse, purchase, winback and back-in-stock journeys, with Yes/No splits, delays and contact updates. Sends are unlimited; the price follows mailable contacts, with 250 SMS credits a month included.
Poptin Growth combines captured contacts with email campaigns and automations. Its canvas supports a confirmed-subscription trigger, source filters, Yes/No conditions, delays, email actions and contact operations. Retrigger controls help manage repeat entry. The email editor includes columns, text, images, buttons, HTML, coupons and reusable blocks.

Team & sites
Privy’s subaccounts share a parent traffic allowance. Poptin’s Agency structure provides client subaccounts with a billing boundary; seats and domains still need separate consideration. Privy accounts have Owner and Member roles, and an event history records who did what. Subaccounts let one login manage several stores or brands under one bill, sharing the parent account’s traffic allowance.
Poptin exposes users, subaccounts and account- or subaccount-scoped API keys. Its Users screen describes broad editing, deletion and billing access, while seat availability depends on the offer. On Agency, sub-account users cannot open Billing and Plans. Treat the user allowance and the popup-domain allowance as separate plan details.

Privy’s API manages contacts and ingests order and custom events, but has no display or campaign endpoints. Browser events identify shoppers and update carts. Webhooks deliver signup and order events, while MCP provides account and performance data. Poptin’s public API manages contacts and email operations, reads popup analytics, and pauses or resumes existing popups. Keys belong to an account or subaccount and can be revoked. Webhooks forward form submissions to an external endpoint.

Privy links display signups to attributed orders and revenue. Poptin adds scheduled reports and API access for teams bringing several accounts into an external dashboard. Privy reports display views, signups, orders and revenue attributed to signups, and emails a summary each morning or each Monday. Contacts and a display’s signups export to CSV.
Poptin reports visitors, views and conversions, with email reporting in the email product. Scheduled lead and statistics reports include recipient, subaccount, interval and timezone settings. Its reporting API is useful when you want to bring results into an external dashboard or an agent workflow.

Integrations
Both can feed another email platform. Privy’s commerce ecosystem and Poptin’s automation and REST routes serve different integration requirements. Privy sends contacts to email and SMS platforms including Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive and Postscript, and to Facebook Custom Audiences. It connects to Shopify, BigCommerce, Wix, WooCommerce and Squarespace stores, review and loyalty apps, Google Analytics, Slack and custom webhooks. A Zapier app is available by invitation.
Poptin connects to email and CRM platforms, with Make and Zapier for additional workflows. Slack supports team notifications, and a webhook route can forward submissions. Its REST API offers another route to contacts and reporting. A store can therefore keep its existing email platform rather than moving to Poptin Growth.

Shopify
Privy supplies a more integrated store-marketing environment. Poptin also offers cart conditions and Add to cart, with plan restrictions on some customer-history rules. Privy’s Shopify app syncs products, collections and customers in both directions, tagging new signups. Displays target cart value, products and order count, and store events start flows. Coupons are created as master or unique Shopify codes and can be applied to the cart after signup. Cross Sell displays add a product to the cart from a button.
Poptin has a native Shopify app. Cart item count, cart value, specific products, customer tags and login status can shape the audience. Order-history targeting requires an upgrade. Shopify cart triggers and post-purchase automations can start the next interaction. Popup buttons offer Add to cart. Coupon setup supports fixed codes and imported unique-code lists, including CSV and fallback codes. These controls suit targeted capture and straightforward cart offers.

Pricing
Compare pageviews, visitors and contacts separately. A switch from popup-only to a messaging package changes the product scope as well as the allowance. Privy Displays starts at $24 a month for 10,000 pageviews and reaches $168 for 100,000. Email + SMS starts at $30 for 1,500 mailable contacts with unlimited sends, popups included. There is no free plan.
Poptin’s monthly popup plans are Basic at $25 for 10,000 visitors and one domain, Pro at $59 for 50,000 visitors and four domains, and Agency at $119 for 150,000 visitors and unlimited domains. Growth uses a separate contact-and-email model: the $19 bracket covers 500 contacts and 5,000 visitors, with unlimited emails and domains. Visitor allowances count visitors to installed pages, not just popup viewers.

The final score
Privy fits a store wanting customer-aware displays and native email or SMS follow-up in one service. Poptin is attractive for contact validation, a broader reward-format choice and agency subaccounts. Both can support an existing email provider, so the decision should follow the required store operations and account structure rather than a generic all-in-one label.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to Privy and Poptin in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
