OptiMonk vs Wisepops.
Operate experiments or add a managed team?
OptiMonk vs Wisepops: compare onsite experiments, Shopify recommendations, games, forms and connected email, with self-service pricing versus a managed proposal.
What do you need your website to do next?
OptiMonk and Wisepops both make sense for a store that wants more from onsite campaigns than an email capture box. They offer games, targeted messages and experiments, and can continue the customer journey through a connected email platform.
OptiMonk is a self-service product with AI-assisted creation, recommendation-led Shopify campaigns and a free entry plan. Wisepops’ current offer combines its onsite platform with strategy and campaign production. The choice therefore involves who will do the ongoing work as well as which controls appear in the editor.
The experiments deserve particular attention. Both document a no-campaign comparison in some form, but traffic allocation, automatic rollout and plan restrictions differ. This comparison keeps those details visible and treats the Wisepops proposal separately from a fixed-price software subscription.
How the comparison works
15 rounds compare both platforms against the same 196 capability criteria, with 100 points distributed across the sections. Each round explains the practical differences and adds to the running score. The table beneath each round shows how the points are awarded. The conclusions bring those results together for different uses of the platforms.
Formats & content
OptiMonk generates campaign designs from a brief and offers desktop and mobile views. Notices, form content and display elements can then be revised for the intended campaign. Wisepops combines onsite campaigns with controls for message content and display. The table distinguishes the individual formats and content features available for a campaign.

Forms
Wisepops adds answer-dependent branching and NPS collection. OptiMonk offers configurable capture with AI-assisted form creation and a mapped handoff to the existing stack. OptiMonk collects email, name, phone, radio choices, checkbox-group answers and comments. Required-field settings and button destinations control the submission journey. Its AI builder can generate a multi-step form, while field mapping carries answers into a connected marketing service. Separate screens organise the questions but do not by themselves establish answer-driven branching. Wisepops includes email, phone, short and long text, radios, dropdowns, checkboxes and hidden fields. Branch blocks send different answers to different next steps. An email field can block previously collected addresses, and NPS collection is documented.

Gamification
Both offer several reward formats. Wisepops also includes seasonal calendars, while OptiMonk’s documented wheel and scratch controls make their prize mechanics explicit. OptiMonk provides a wheel and scratch-card controls in its AI builder. Wheel odds are calculated across winning slices, and a slice with an empty coupon code is a losing slice. Scratch settings allow up to four weighted prize rows, with designed, solid or gradient covers; the planner describes a prize on every play. Our 2:1 scratch weights produced 66.7% and 33.3%. Its wider documentation also lists a gift format. Wisepops documents wheels, scratch cards, pick-a-box games and seasonal calendars. These broaden the types of promotion beyond a single spin-to-win interaction. Format availability does not establish the same probability and losing-outcome controls for every game.

Targeting
Both combine visitor rules and several triggers. OptiMonk’s campaign priorities and prior-exposure conditions help coordinate offers; Wisepops includes hover and custom-event openings. OptiMonk combines delay, exit intent, scroll, inactivity, click and custom-event triggers with country, visitor history, referral, UTM, cookies and subscriber conditions. Campaign priority and previous-exposure rules coordinate several messages. AI-assisted settings changes provide another way to edit timing and audience conditions without rebuilding the campaign. Wisepops exposes landing, delay, exit, scroll, click, hover and custom-event triggers. Audience controls include regions, traffic source, UTM values, visit history and language. Repeat rules can stop a campaign after signup, click, closure or a display count.

Experiments
Both can compare a campaign against no campaign. OptiMonk uses even splits and defined winner rules; Wisepops provides traffic allocation and optional automatic rollout, with plan restrictions on controls and detail. OptiMonk adds a no-popup control alongside a design, and traffic splits evenly between versions; a custom split is not available. Automatic winner settings include a 95% chance-to-win threshold, at least 200 conversions and three days. This gives an optimization team more explicit controls over the comparison and stopping rule. Wisepops lets an experiment allocate traffic, select a success metric and automatically roll out a winning variant. A no-campaign control is documented for specified newer plans, and detailed results have plan restrictions. Confirm those controls in the service proposal.

Email & SMS
Both use a connected email service for ongoing messaging. Their onsite channels should not be counted as a second native email platform. OptiMonk’s connection routes let you pass captured contacts to a dedicated email or SMS platform. For a store already using Klaviyo, Mailchimp or another provider, this keeps follow-up in the system that owns customer journeys and reporting. Budget for that provider alongside OptiMonk. Wisepops’ confirmed email workflow sends captured contacts to an email platform. Its onsite feeds and web push are separate channels and do not establish native email broadcasts or welcome sequences.

Team & sites
OptiMonk separates Owner and Member access. Wisepops limits Editors to assigned sites; managed production also requires a clear division of responsibility between the teams. OptiMonk invitations distinguish Member and Owner. Subscription, billing and usage management belong to the Owner role. That is a practical separation when one person manages campaigns and another controls the subscription. Wisepops offers Admin access to websites, users and billing, and Editor access limited to selected sites. This distinguishes account administration from work on individual websites. The number of sites and the service responsibilities still belong in the proposal.

Developer
OptiMonk’s REST API and MCP server create and edit campaigns with scoped access. MCP can also change delivery settings and publish. These builder interfaces do not read leads or analytics; a webhook sends subscriber details to a callback URL. Wisepops’ API reads campaign identifiers, activation state and performance counts, and exports contacts. JavaScript callbacks connect popup events to site logic. Webhooks deliver email, phone and survey responses with retries.

Support
OptiMonk supplies live chat and higher-tier account management. Wisepops sells campaign strategy and production, which extends beyond ordinary product support. OptiMonk includes live chat on Free, while Premium and Master add an account manager. An account manager provides a different level of assistance from access to chat and can matter for teams running a larger optimization program. Wisepops includes strategy and campaign production in its managed offering. Agree deliverables, turnaround and who handles urgent changes with that team. The service offer alone does not confirm a particular live-chat entitlement for the shared support criterion.

Data & reporting
Both support commerce-oriented measurement. Wisepops’ experiment detail is plan-dependent; OptiMonk exposes several campaign goals and contact exports in its self-service workflow. OptiMonk supports Submit and Order goals alongside page visits, purchase value and add-to-cart value. Its subscriber area stores submitted contacts, with CSV and XLSX export. Commerce goals connect onsite campaigns with later store activity, rather than treating every button click as the same result. Wisepops’ API returns campaign counts and exports contacts. Experiments support order rate and revenue per visitor, with plan-dependent detailed results. Onsite recommendations and campaign service work should be evaluated against agreed outcomes.

Integrations
Both fit an existing email or SMS stack. Connector details determine how answers and subscription state reach the destination, independently of who produces the campaign. OptiMonk’s provider menu includes Klaviyo, Mailchimp, HubSpot, Attentive, Postscript, Salesforce, Slack, Zapier and Webhook. Its own subscriber list stores campaign responses. Email and SMS connectors make it a natural capture layer for a store that already has a lifecycle-marketing stack. Wisepops connects to Klaviyo and other email providers, including Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign and Brevo, as well as CRMs and SMS platforms. Analytics, Zapier and webhooks support additional routes. Google Sheets is a Zapier workflow here, not a native spreadsheet connector.

Shopify
OptiMonk has detailed confirmed cart, recommendation and discount operations. Wisepops’ recommendations and revenue experiments are relevant, but the proposal should identify the exact store workflow. OptiMonk also has a native Shopify app. Cart conditions combine value, product count and specific products with AND logic. Its product features cover manually selected products, most-viewed and recently visited items, cart contents and smart recommendations. Shopify coupon support includes unique single-use codes, expiry settings and automatic application; wheel and scratch-card prizes use existing codes. Together these features support recommendation-led offers as well as signup incentives. Wisepops has a native Shopify app and markets onsite product recommendations. Its experiment documentation includes Shopify revenue metrics. Installation and recommendations do not by themselves establish every cart action, coupon operation or customer-targeting control in the table.

Pricing
OptiMonk has published self-service pageview tiers. Wisepops’ managed starting price is not a fixed quote for every traffic or site scenario, so missing scenario prices are not evidence of a measured cost disadvantage. OptiMonk bills pageviews. Free covers 10,000 pageviews and one domain; Essential, Growth and Premium cover 20,000, 100,000 and 500,000 pageviews. Our account’s monthly prices were $29, $99 and $249. Published annual equivalents were $19, $69 and $179 per month, requiring annual payments of $228, $828 and $2,148. Targeting, A/B testing, integrations and unbranded popups are included even on Free. AI credits and domains also have plan limits. Wisepops advertises a managed offer from $599 a month. The final scope and fee need a proposal. That starting figure is not a confirmed price for each traffic, domain and email requirement in our scenario table.

The final score
OptiMonk is compelling for a team operating its own Shopify campaigns and experiments, especially when the free feature set covers the initial workload. Wisepops is worth considering when outsourced campaign production and its broader onsite programme are part of the requirement. Both can keep the existing email platform; the service fee and sending bill should remain visible beside software capacity.

What matters most to you?
Let’s put your priorities first
First, check that each tool can do the task. An absent or unconfirmed required capability means a dash with an explanation instead of a scenario score, and no winner highlight. Only qualifying tools share the points; a sole qualifier earns the full weight of each criterion it meets. 70 points go to the criteria directly related to it, and 30 to everything else. For “Popups without email marketing”, all 100 points go to the included capabilities and relevant popup pricing scenarios; unwanted features and email sending have zero weight. Both tools earn points for confirmed capabilities; unconfirmed ones earn zero. The first row keeps the original overall score.

How the comparison works
These scores are relative to OptiMonk and Wisepops in this comparison. They cannot be carried over to comparisons with other products: each tool’s points depend on what the other participant offers.
Relative scores, not universal ratings
The same capability earns half the points when both tools have it, and all the points when only one does. Changing the opponent can therefore change a product’s score without changing the product itself. The review pages separately show absolute capability ratings without price.
One shared pool of 100 points
The 15 rounds cover 196 criteria. Each round has a set weight, divided equally among its criteria. These weights are our editorial choices.
How features earn points
If both products meet a criterion, they split its points equally. If only one does, it earns all of them. An unconfirmed capability earns zero. If neither qualifies, those points are not awarded, so the two totals can add up to less than 100.
How prices earn points
Ten scenarios carry 1 point each. We use the cheapest confirmed plan meeting each scenario’s traffic and feature requirements, billed monthly in USD. Equal prices split the point; a plan costing half as much earns twice the share. A free qualifying plan beats a paid one. If only one suitable plan and price are confirmed, it earns the full point.
Which plans count
Feature rounds cover capabilities across the products’ plans. The total does not describe a single subscription; the pricing scenarios identify the plan needed for each stated use case.
How your priorities change the score
A tool must first meet the task’s required capabilities. If a requirement is absent or unconfirmed, its scenario score is shown as a dash and it cannot be the winner; the status explains why. Only qualifying tools participate in point allocation and price comparisons. A sole qualifying tool earns the full weight of each criterion it meets; criteria it does not meet remain unearned. Standard priorities assign 70 points to their relevant criteria and 30 to the rest, preserving relative weights within each group. “Popups without email marketing” instead distributes all 100 points among its included criteria, preserving their relative weights and giving everything else zero. It includes lead capture, testing, reporting and external handoff. Its pricing criteria exclude email sending and feedback workloads. Included email features carry no penalty: only the required plan price counts. The evidence and scoring rules stay the same. The overall-feature row keeps the original weights.
