Promolayer
51.47A Shopify merchant can show an offer after a cart addition, test it against showing nothing and pay for popup impressions. Here is what each plan buys.
- Who is this app for?
- Stores that show offers selectively and want to know whether showing one helps.
- Main advantage
- Shopify cart conditions, automatic discounts and a no-popup control group suit merchants testing an offer against ordinary shopping.
- Main limitation
- The standard form allows two custom fields. Separate client workspaces and collaborator invitations start on different plans.
Pricing and plans
Basic costs $25 a month for 15,000 popup impressions on Shopify. A shop with heavy traffic on its blog and an offer confined to its cart can spend its allowance on the shoppers who actually see the offer. Estimate how often the offer appears, including repeat displays. Shopify bills the subscription. Promolayer counts impressions when a display appears, so the amount of eligible traffic and the re-display rules matter.
The prices below are for installations billed through Shopify, in US dollars on monthly billing. The standalone website has a separate price list. Higher capacity, a second workspace and permission to invite a client are three different upgrades.

| Standard | $70.00/mo100,000 monthly impressions · 1 workspace | Keep the Basic toolkit with more exposure for a busy site. |
| Professional | $150.00/mo300,000 monthly impressions · 2 workspaces | Separate two workspaces and their reports. Adds custom CSS and JavaScript. |
| Enterprise | $320.00/mo1 million monthly impressions · 5 workspaces | Increase workspace capacity and add live chat support. |

Features and plan access
On Free we published a wheel on a test-store URL. It issued a unique 10% code. Shopify applied it automatically to a €72 item and showed the €7.20 deduction in the cart, bringing the total to €64.80.
For a newsletter signup, the standard form covers name, email, phone, a checkbox and up to two extra fields. Promolayer can send the first reply itself or send subscribers to an existing mailing list.

Formats & content
Promolayer documents announcement popups. A standalone configuration with both form and action button removed is unconfirmed. A floating bar suits a store-wide update, while cart rules can limit a promotion to eligible shoppers. Match the format to the message: a persistent notice, an edge-of-page promotion and a central popup occupy different amounts of attention. Display conditions and billing limits still matter when a campaign contains no signup form.

Forms
Promolayer’s form controls include email capture, phone field, single choice, free text, and consent checkbox. Send an immediate reply and schedule additional messages up to 30 days after signup. Mark a custom form field as required. The useful distinction is between collecting a contact and qualifying it: extra questions, consent and the next step after submission shape the signup flow. Phone-number collection and permission to send marketing messages are separate requirements.

Surveys
Promolayer has no confirmed capabilities in this section in the current review. Choose the response format around the question you want to answer. A recommendation score, a satisfaction rating and a quiz outcome serve different purposes; support for one does not imply the others or an automatic report.

Gamification
Promolayer’s game formats include spin the wheel. Set prize probabilities and let visitors spin for a reward. The game is the way an offer is revealed; prize configuration and the signup flow determine what the visitor actually receives. Experiments
Promolayer’s testing tools include A/B testing. Run multiple popup variants and optionally include a group that sees no popup. Returning visitors keep their assignment. Popup testing, email testing and automation experiments are separate capabilities. A useful comparison also considers traffic allocation, how a winner is selected and whether a no-popup control is available to measure the effect of showing a campaign at all.

Email & SMS
Promolayer has no confirmed capabilities in this section in the current review. Capturing an address in a popup and sending a marketing campaign are separate jobs. Compare native sending channels, automation and their allowances independently from the popup subscription; an integration with a mailing platform does not include that platform’s sending service.

Team & sites
Professional includes two workspaces with separate tags and reporting. Plus introduces email invitations scoped to a workspace. A Member can create, edit and publish popups. Only the Owner can manage membership. Quote Plus if a client needs a separate login. Separate access to the account from permission to change or publish campaigns. For a team managing several sites, the useful questions are which sites each person can work on, who controls billing and whether each site needs its own subscription.

Developer
Promolayer’s developer interfaces include browser API and webhooks. Enter a callback URL in the display actions and test delivery of form data. Trigger an existing display with the JavaScript snippet from its Rules tab. The scope of each interface matters more than the API label. Opening an existing popup, sending a submitted form to an endpoint and creating or publishing campaigns are different operations. Agent access depends on those operations and the permissions exposed.

Support
The Shopify price table lists email support on every tier, live chat from Enterprise, and technical and priority support on Plus. Consider the support channel alongside the work you expect help with. Access to chat does not by itself promise round-the-clock coverage, a response deadline or someone to build your campaigns. Those service commitments need to be distinguished from ordinary product assistance.

Editor & workflow
Promolayer’s editing tools include free editor and campaign drafts. Save a display as a draft and switch it live separately. Build and run branded campaigns on the ongoing Free plan. Editing, saving a draft and activating a campaign are separate stages of the workflow. Consider how changes are prepared and reviewed before visitors see them. An AI writing assistant also has a narrower role than an assistant that can change layout or targeting.

Data & reporting
Promolayer’s data and reporting tools include lead export and team notifications. Download the collected contacts in a list as CSV. Notify one or more staff email addresses after a form submission. Use the reporting workflow to connect captured responses with the decisions you need to make. Downloading leads, scheduling reports and attributing revenue are different capabilities; a contact export alone does not establish an analytics dashboard or revenue measurement.

Integrations
Decide who owns the first email. Promolayer can send a follow-up from a form, add a subscriber to a mailing list or notify staff. Enabling two welcome messages for the same signup can give the shopper the same offer twice.
On Free we found Mailchimp and Klaviyo connection buttons and a webhook URL field. We did not connect a mailing account or verify delivery. Sending the follow-up from Promolayer requires a paid plan. Our integration guide explains the connection types and workflows. For store-specific features, see our Shopify popup apps overview.

Works with Shopify
Promolayer’s Shopify coverage includes storefront installation, native app, discounts, and customer data. A live wheel generated a unique percentage discount on the Free Shopify plan. Use Shopify customer tags to select an audience. Installation, customer data, discounts and cart actions are separate capabilities. A Shopify listing alone does not establish support for all of them, and features supplied by a separate app need to be considered with that app’s access and pricing.

Capability score
The capability score brings together the confirmed features in the sections above, excluding pricing. Each metric belongs to one section, and a feature’s score includes its subfeatures. The breakdown shows how much each area contributes and where points remain unearned. It measures feature coverage, rather than conversion performance or value for money.

AI agent readiness
Agent readiness looks at a complete working process: understanding a campaign, creating or changing it, operating it, reading results and controlling access. This assessment adds context to the Developer section without awarding extra points. In-editor AI assistance and an external agent’s ability to operate the account are considered separately.
Submission delivery and on-page display controls
A developer can open an existing display from site code and receive form submissions by webhook. The documented routes support storefront interactions and outbound data.
| Agent task | What the agent can do |
|---|---|
| Trigger an existing displaySupported | Use the snippet supplied for that display. |
| Deliver form submissionsSupported | Configure a destination URL and send a test payload. |
| Manage campaigns through an external agentUnconfirmed | Public account-management API and MCP operations have not been established. |
The custom trigger runs in the storefront. The webhook URL is set for the display.
What one view, action or submission could cost
A view is a visible widget display. An action is a target-link visit, coupon copy, add-to-cart or standalone consent. A submission sends form data, such as an email, phone number, enquiry or feedback. Submitting a form is not also counted as an action. These estimates do not establish that a plan supports every outcome.
At $25.00 per month, the selected plan allocates $0.025 per display, $0.50 per action and $1.25 per submission across 1,000 displays. The table rounds to cents. The 5% action and 2% submission rates are alternative assumptions, not measured performance or a vendor charge per event.
The capacity check assumes one site and 1,000 actual widget displays. Billing is based on popup impressions, which is distinct from the actual outcomes used here. For form-free announcements, compare views or actions rather than submissions. Taxes, separately billed services and customer discounts are excluded.
| Outcome | Calculation | Estimated cost |
|---|---|---|
| One display | $25.00 ÷ 1,000 | $0.03 |
| 1,000 displays | $25.00 ÷ 1,000 × 1,000 | $25.00 |
| One action | $25.00 ÷ 50 | $0.50 |
| One submission | $25.00 ÷ 20 | $1.25 |
Promolayer alternatives: which should you choose?
Stores that show offers selectively and want to know whether showing one helps. The standard form allows two custom fields. Separate client workspaces and collaborator invitations start on different plans.
Compare Privy and OptiMonk and Personizely and WooHoo against that requirement. The cards below explain where each is a better fit. Match the billing unit, required features and site or account limits before comparing headline prices; the cheapest subscription does not always cover the same work.
Promolayer vs Privy
Compare Promolayer and Privy for Shopify cart promotions, wheel rewards, customer consent, email and SMS follow-up, and billing.
Promolayer vs OptiMonk
Compare two Shopify popup tools with no-popup controls, different wheel rewards and very different billing for a narrowly targeted promotion.

About this review
We built a wheel in the Free Shopify account, configured its rewards, checked form fields and inspected the subscriber actions. On the test storefront we spun the wheel and checked its discount against the cart total. We checked paid-plan limits against the Shopify price table and vendor guides. Dates beside sources indicate when the corresponding evidence was checked; publication does not imply that every source was rechecked that day.
“Documented” means the provider describes the capability. A named plan is shown only where we recorded tier evidence. “Not confirmed” means the evidence is insufficient, not that the feature is absent. Paid add-ons and higher-tier restrictions are stated separately. Conflicting billing information prevents a unit-cost estimate.
Recommendations are editorial judgments about fit and cost. Sources are linked next to the claims they support, and every calculation uses the assumptions above.
