beehiiv Popup Integrations: Publication IDs, Subscriber Fields and Signup Flows
Compare popup tools for beehiiv. Connect the right publication, preserve a reader’s answers and check which onboarding steps run after external signup.
Two newsletters can share a beehiiv login. A reader joining the local business briefing should never land in the weekend events edition just because a marketer duplicated its popup. Start with the publication ID, even when the same person manages both.
Next decide what the reader should experience after subscribing. An address on the correct publication, a saved custom answer and a completed hosted signup flow are three different outcomes.
Choose the publication before designing the questions
Use beehiiv’s native subscribe form as a reference when the newsletter lives on a beehiiv website. Check which signup flow the publication uses and what new readers see after submitting. An embedded beehiiv form on an external site supports a redirect; the Website Builder’s multi-step signup flow belongs to its native form. If an external popup promises a follow-up survey, give readers an explicit route to it.
ConvertFlow and Poper both document the API key and publication ID. Claspo also lets you map the input and send fixed values. Compare those routes against your editorial plan: a weekly briefing may need only an email, while a local edition may need a neighbourhood or beat preference.
What should your beehiiv popup send?
| Requirement | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Publication ID | Choose the newsletter in the connector or enter its publication ID. A default workspace key can reach multiple publications; a paid account can restrict the key to selected publications. |
| Subscriber field | Create the destination field in the right publication. Submit a realistic reader preference and open the subscriber. |
| Onboarding step | Check what happens after an external submission if your native signup flow normally asks questions or invites another action. |

Starting points for different needs
ConvertFlow
A useful choice for qualifying questions before signup. Its guide documents the publication ID and selecting existing beehiiv fields.
Poper
Try it for a popup on a publication’s companion site. Each campaign can carry the publication ID and its own field mapping.
Claspo
Look here when the subscriber provides one answer and the site supplies another value, such as the edition that promoted the signup.
How each connection works
Connection details and plan conditions are shown below. The field tables describe the popup editor; supported transfer depends on the connector.
ConvertFlow
Connection to beehiiv
Connect the API key and v2 publication ID from beehiiv settings. ConvertFlow lets the editor select beehiiv custom fields when building the signup, so a reader’s answer can accompany the subscription. A shared account key can serve multiple publications; check the ID on each form.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| SMS capture | Forms expose a Phone field and separate SMS Consent control; confirmation can use an SMS subscription code. Delivery depends on the connected service. |
| Phone field | Collect phone numbers with the built-in Phone field. SMS consent is a separate form control. |
| Single choice | Dropdown and radio fields collect one answer; survey answers can use text, images, icons, letters, emoji or colours. |
| Multiple choice | Radio/Checkbox Select fields and the survey Multi-Select setting allow multiple answers. |
| Free text | Text and Paragraph fields collect short or long written responses. Number, Date and Range fields are also available. |
| Consent checkbox | Separate Email Consent, SMS Consent and Privacy Consent controls are available in forms.Email marketing consent · SMS marketing consent · Privacy terms consent |
| Hidden fields | Hidden fields can carry extra values; field settings include prefilled values and URL-parameter mapping. |
| Email capture | The editor provides an Email field, prefilling and submission actions. Contacts can pass to a connected newsletter service or CRM. |
Papa’s take
For teams that need funnel A/B testing and conditional recommendations; simple lead capture can use a lower tier. Free is for building and previewing; going live requires a paid website plan. Integrations, validation and AI also consume a separate action allowance.
Poper
Connection to beehiiv
Enter the API key and publication ID in the popup’s beehiiv integration. Map the form values before saving. Test the address in the intended publication, especially after duplicating a popup to promote a second newsletter from the same account.
| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone field | Popup and standalone form editors offer a Phone field. This establishes number collection, not SMS consent or message delivery. |
| Free text | Standalone forms and surveys offer Short Text and Long Text fields for written answers. |
| Single choice | Dropdown and Radio controls are available in the popup, form and survey editors. |
| Multiple choice | The form and survey logic library offers a Checkbox Group for multiple choices. |
| Consent checkbox | The standalone form and survey libraries include a Terms control; popup forms offer a Checkbox element. Consent wording needs configuring for the intended use. |
| Hidden fields | The popup integration step offers hidden inputs. Forms and surveys also expose Hidden fields and a dedicated settings section. |
| Email capture | The AI-generated popup contains an email field. The Plinko editor also has an email gate before play. |
Papa’s take
Pro adds tests, games and integrations. The inspected monthly price is a promotion; confirm the traffic definition and ongoing rate before paying.
Claspo

| Editor capability | What it does |
|---|---|
| Phone field | The editor provides a Phone field. This establishes phone collection, not SMS marketing consent or delivery. |
| Free text | Text input and Text area collect short and long written answers; Calendar and Date fields are also available. |
| Single choice | Dropdown and Radio components collect a single selected answer. |
| Consent checkbox | The component library includes Checkbox and Data processing and terms of use controls. |
| Hidden fields | Attach hidden fields to the widget submission through the editor’s hidden-field settings. |
| Email capture | The editor provides an Email field and a separate signup page in the inspected game template. |
Papa’s take
Removes branding and leaves room for a growing store. Shopify pricing is used here. Team invitations are documented for the web app, but its help center excludes Shopify accounts.
How the connection changes the workflow
Example setups using the connections described above.
One publisher operates a weekday and weekend edition
Keep the design shared, but record each publication ID in the campaign brief. Subscribe to the weekday form with one test address and to the weekend form with another. Inspect both publications, not just the welcome emails.
If one person intentionally joins both editions, test the same email on both forms too. Deduplicating reports across an entire publisher can hide valid subscriptions to different publications.
Preserve an answer collected outside the hosted signup flow
An arts newsletter asks whether a reader prefers exhibitions or live music. If the external popup collects that answer, map it to the publication’s field before sending the first issue. If the publication normally asks the question after signup, establish how an external reader will reach that step.
Submit once from the publisher’s own site and once from the companion shop. Compare the subscriber profiles and the first email for both. This reveals when two attractive signup experiences produce different audience data.
Head-to-head comparisons for beehiiv users
These comparisons cover the popup tools as a whole. Use them to compare forms, targeting and costs alongside the connection details above.
ConvertFlow vs Poper
Compare a quiz that recommends an edition with a popup already assigned to one beehiiv publication.
ConvertFlow vs Claspo
Decide whether a reader’s answer should choose the next screen or simply travel with the subscription.
Poper vs Claspo
Compare two ways to collect a preference on a companion site and preserve which edition promoted the signup.
Check the whole journey before launch
Use a small test campaign with addresses you control. Check the receiving record and the follow-up, not only the popup’s success message.
- Compare the form’s publication ID with the intended newsletter.
- Find a fresh subscriber in that publication and inspect their preference.
- Follow the actual post-submit experience from the external site.
- Subscribe to a second edition and check both publications independently.
Common questions
Is a beehiiv API key enough to select the newsletter?
ConvertFlow and Poper ask for the publication ID. Claspo asks you to choose the publication in a dropdown after connecting the key. On a paid beehiiv plan, the workspace owner or admin can also limit the key to that publication.
Can a popup collect a reader’s topic preference?
Yes, where the connector maps it to a subscriber field. ConvertFlow documents the beehiiv field selector; inspect the answer on the subscriber after submission.
Should an existing beehiiv form be replaced?
For a single hosted newsletter, compare your existing signup flow first. A separate popup is worth considering when another website or a different set of questions needs its own capture experience.
