AWeber Popup Integrations: Subscriber Lists, Tags and Custom Fields

Compare nine popup tools for AWeber. Find a simple list signup, deliver the right lead magnet or preserve survey answers as subscriber fields.

A reader signs up for a newsletter and later requests a knitting pattern from the same publisher. The email address is identical. The second request still deserves a response. Choosing the popup starts with deciding how AWeber will recognize the pattern request from someone already on the list.

For a single newsletter, a list connection can be enough. For several downloads, give each offer its own tag. If a survey recommends the next pattern, also decide where to store the reader’s skill level.

Decide what the subscriber should carry into AWeber

Open the list used by a working signup. Identify the field the email template reads and the action that starts delivery. A custom field can store a reader’s skill level. A tag can tell a workflow that the reader asked for a beginner pattern today.

That distinction narrows the shortlist. Hello Bar documents sending signups to a chosen list. OptiMonk offers a field map against the selected list, and ConvertFlow documents both mapping survey answers and taking list or tag actions on submission. Start with the simplest connection that supplies the signal your workflow uses.

What should your AWeber popup send?

RequirementWhat to look for
ListUse the subscriber list associated with the publication or course. Check that a cloned popup points to the intended list.
Offer tagIdentify the actual tag action when a tag starts the download sequence. A static text answer containing the same word is a different operation.
Custom field keyCheck that the receiving list exposes the field the email template reads. A friendly question on the popup can map to a different internal field name.
Subscriber statusInspect the resulting subscriber and any pending confirmation before treating the person as ready to receive the first mailing.

Starting points for different needs

Hello Bar

A shortlist entry for a publisher with one publication and one list. The setup documents signing in and choosing the list that receives email addresses.

Hello Bar review

ConvertFlow

A better starting point for several lead magnets. Survey answers can populate custom fields, and the submission can take a separate list or tag action.

ConvertFlow review

OptiMonk

Useful when a form’s extra questions already have corresponding AWeber fields. Its mapping step shows the identifiers available on the chosen list.

How each connection works

Connection details and plan conditions are shown below. The field tables describe the popup editor; supported transfer depends on the connector.

OptiMonk

Connection to AWeber

Authorize AWeber in the OptiMonk campaign, choose a list and match the campaign inputs to field identifiers from that list. The mapping options depend on both the form and the selected list. Create the destination field before building a signup around a reader’s preference.

AWeber connection
Editor capabilityWhat it does
Field mappingChoose destination lists and map signup fields to email or CRM providers.
Phone fieldThe visual editor exposes a Phone field with a country selector. This establishes collection controls, not SMS consent or delivery.
Single choiceRadio options expose editable labels and recorded values. The connected field determines the choice type; switching type requires a new element.
Multiple choiceThe native choice-group panel supports multiple checkbox options, with an optional required flag.
Consent checkboxThe test form rendered an unchecked, optional email-marketing checkbox. It is a recorded choice field.Email marketing consent · Privacy terms consent
Free textThe generated form includes an optional comment textarea. An AI revision removed an unwanted duplicate from the first page.
Email captureThe inspected email field exposes required-field and error-message settings. A separate Shopify test form rejected empty and malformed email and stored a valid synthetic response in OptiMonk. The earlier multi-step editor preview did not enforce validation.

Papa’s take

A modest paid traffic tier for an active store; annual billing is cheaper.

Poptin

Connection to AWeber

Authenticate AWeber in the poptin’s Email and Integrations settings, choose the list, approve and save the changes. Poptin’s connector guide names Email and Message as the supported fields. Check a different connector if several structured answers must reach AWeber separately.

AWeber connection
Editor capabilityWhat it does
Single choiceThe inspected field offers Radio and Single-select display modes, with editable option labels and values. This confirms one selected answer; it does not establish a scored quiz or rating scale.
Email double opt-inChoose a double opt-in setting for the popup or inherit the account setting.
Phone fieldCollect a phone number in a dedicated contact field.
Free textCollect a written response with the Message field.
Consent checkboxAdd an Email Consent checkbox alongside the signup fields.
Hidden fieldsSet an input field to Hidden instead of displaying it to visitors.
Email captureCollect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list.

Papa’s take

Unbranded popup campaigns with a practical visitor allowance. Email bundles are separate.

Personizely

Connection to AWeber

Connect the AWeber account in Settings → Integrations, authorize access, then select the AWeber action and list on the widget’s subscription form. The documented outcome is a subscriber on that list. Verify tags separately if the first message depends on one.

AWeber connection
Editor capabilityWhat it does
Phone fieldThe form editor offers a Phone field. This alone does not establish SMS subscription or delivery.
Free textCustom fields include text and textarea for free-text answers.
Single choiceCustom fields include select and radio controls for one answer.
Multiple choiceA multiple-choice custom field type is available.
Consent checkboxSeparate email marketing, SMS marketing and privacy consent fields are available.Email marketing consent · SMS marketing consent · Privacy terms consent
Email captureCollect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list.

Papa’s take

Adds widget A/B testing and personalization; Essential has a different testing scope.

ConvertFlow

Connection to AWeber

After connecting AWeber, choose an AWeber custom field for a ConvertFlow form input or survey question. Configure a list or tag action for the submission. A field can preserve a reader’s answer while a tag identifies which download or sequence the reader requested.

AWeber connectionAWeber field settings
Editor capabilityWhat it does
SMS captureForms expose a Phone field and separate SMS Consent control; confirmation can use an SMS subscription code. Delivery depends on the connected service.
Phone fieldCollect phone numbers with the built-in Phone field. SMS consent is a separate form control.
Single choiceDropdown and radio fields collect one answer; survey answers can use text, images, icons, letters, emoji or colours.
Multiple choiceRadio/Checkbox Select fields and the survey Multi-Select setting allow multiple answers.
Free textText and Paragraph fields collect short or long written responses. Number, Date and Range fields are also available.
Consent checkboxSeparate Email Consent, SMS Consent and Privacy Consent controls are available in forms.Email marketing consent · SMS marketing consent · Privacy terms consent
Hidden fieldsHidden fields can carry extra values; field settings include prefilled values and URL-parameter mapping.
Email captureThe editor provides an Email field, prefilling and submission actions. Contacts can pass to a connected newsletter service or CRM.

Papa’s take

For teams that need funnel A/B testing and conditional recommendations; simple lead capture can use a lower tier. Free is for building and previewing; going live requires a paid website plan. Integrations, validation and AI also consume a separate action allowance.

Pop Convert

Connection to AWeber

The Shopify app’s integrations catalogue lists AWeber for exporting subscribers collected on the store. The account evidence does not document the authorization steps, tag support or the fields beyond signup information. Inspect the receiving list before using an AWeber workflow that starts on a tag.

Papa’s take

The app price follows the Shopify plan. The account shows Free with 2,000 sessions, 100 subscribers and 250 emails monthly; the public listing gives lower Free limits.

Poper

Connection to AWeber

Sign in to AWeber from the popup’s Integrations tab and select a subscriber list. Map the Poper inputs to existing AWeber field keys. For a preference beyond the standard fields, add an attribute in the mapping and make sure its key exists in AWeber.

Classic plan summaries and the in-account feature matrix disagree on tier access. Shopify app pricing is a different offer.

How the connection changes the workflow

Example setups using the connections described above.

Deliver a second download to an existing reader

A first-time subscriber might enter a welcome workflow simply by joining the list. That same trigger may never happen for a person already subscribed. If you advertise a second download, the second offer needs a signal of its own.

With ConvertFlow, examine the tag action for that offer. For a Personizely signup, the documented starting point is the list action; establish how the second request will be recognized before promising immediate delivery. Test the same address twice and check the second email.

ConvertFlow reviewPersonizely review

Save a reader’s experience level for a later newsletter

Ask readers to choose beginner, intermediate or advanced. Create the matching AWeber field, map the answer and preview the segment that selects beginners. Poper specifically warns that a destination key must exist for that data to transfer.

Send a second answer from the same address and read the subscriber record again. If the old answer persists, find out whether the connector updates existing subscribers before using this question to personalize future editions.

Head-to-head comparisons for AWeber users

These comparisons cover the popup tools as a whole. Use them to compare forms, targeting and costs alongside the connection details above.

ConvertFlow vs Personizely

Compare the tools for a publisher whose form answers will shape the email sequence.

Poptin vs Hello Bar

For a single newsletter list, compare the publishing controls and costs of the two signup tools.

Poptin vs OptiMonk

Compare the form builders once you know whether a message field is enough or an AWeber custom field must hold the answer.

Poptin vs Picreel

For an existing campaign, compare how the two tools collect leads and check whether connecting AWeber would also transfer earlier signups.

Personizely vs Adoric

For a store sending subscribers to one AWeber list, compare which shoppers each campaign can target and which form editor the store would use.

Check the whole journey before launch

Use a small test campaign with addresses you control. Check the receiving record and the follow-up, not only the popup’s success message.

  1. Find the new email on the intended AWeber list.
  2. Check a preference against the actual custom field used by your template.
  3. Inspect the tag history for a lead-magnet request.
  4. Submit a different offer as an existing reader and find its delivery email.
  5. Verify what the visitor sees while confirmation is pending.

Common questions

Which popup should I try for a single AWeber newsletter?

Hello Bar and Personizely both describe sending signup addresses to a selected AWeber list. Try the form on your site, then inspect the list and the first email a new subscriber receives.

Does a popup’s survey automatically populate AWeber fields?

It depends on the connector. ConvertFlow explicitly maps survey answers, while Poptin’s AWeber guide lists Email and Message. Select a route that exposes the field your mailing needs.

Can I schedule messages in each subscriber’s time zone?

AWeber documents local-time scheduling and notes that some third-party integrations omit the IP information it uses. Test this with the specific capture method if local delivery time matters.
