Campaign Monitor Popup Integrations: Client Lists and Subscriber Fields

Compare eight popup tools for Campaign Monitor. Check the client, list ID, custom fields and the treatment of returning subscribers before launch.

An agency launches an event popup for a second client by copying the first client’s campaign. The form looks right, the success screen appears, and the subscriber goes into last year’s list. A successful connection can hide exactly this kind of mistake.

Start by identifying the client and subscriber list that own the mailing. Next, inspect the fields defined on that list. A location dropdown for one brand may have a different key or a different set of allowed values on another brand’s list.

The list determines where the subscriber and their answers live

Campaign Monitor’s subscriber operations identify the list in the request. They can carry an email address, name and custom fields. The API also distinguishes subscriber status, resubscription and permission to track. The fact that those controls exist in Campaign Monitor does not mean every popup exposes them.

For a single client, choosing the list by ID can remove ambiguity. For an agency, the client ID and the list ID serve different purposes. Ask the person who will send the email to open the intended list, confirm the client and check one subscriber there before copying settings to the next campaign.

What should your Campaign Monitor popup send?

RequirementWhat to look for
Client identityCheck the client that owns the destination. Treat a list called Newsletter in a second brand’s account as a separate destination.
List API IDFor connectors that ask for this ID, take it from the receiving list. A client ID identifies a client and cannot stand in for a list ID.
Field key and typeMatch each answer to the field on this particular list. Inspect one multiple-choice response as the stored value, then try the actual segment.
Returning subscriberLook up existing and unsubscribed test addresses separately. Check list status and tracking preferences after a repeat request.

Starting points for different needs

Poptin

A straightforward fit when the destination is identified by list ID and the form needs its documented fields: name, email, phone and message.

Poptin review

Sleeknote

Consider it when a multistep signup has several answers and the list already has matching fields. Its setup includes input mapping and additional campaign data.

ConvertFlow

Useful for an agency that needs to retrieve a particular client’s lists and custom fields before assigning a form action. The connection explicitly uses the client ID.

How each connection works

Connection details and plan conditions are shown below. The field tables describe the popup editor; supported transfer depends on the connector.

OptiMonk

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Enter the Campaign Monitor API key, test the connection and choose the mailing list in the OptiMonk campaign. To identify form signups, the vendor describes creating a source custom field on the Campaign Monitor list, refreshing the field choices in OptiMonk and selecting it.

Campaign Monitor connection
Editor capabilityWhat it does
Field mappingChoose destination lists and map signup fields to email or CRM providers.
Phone fieldThe visual editor exposes a Phone field with a country selector. This establishes collection controls, not SMS consent or delivery.
Single choiceRadio options expose editable labels and recorded values. The connected field determines the choice type; switching type requires a new element.
Multiple choiceThe native choice-group panel supports multiple checkbox options, with an optional required flag.
Consent checkboxThe test form rendered an unchecked, optional email-marketing checkbox. It is a recorded choice field.Email marketing consent · Privacy terms consent
Free textThe generated form includes an optional comment textarea. An AI revision removed an unwanted duplicate from the first page.
Email captureThe inspected email field exposes required-field and error-message settings. A separate Shopify test form rejected empty and malformed email and stored a valid synthetic response in OptiMonk. The earlier multi-step editor preview did not enforce validation.

Papa’s take

A modest paid traffic tier for an active store; annual billing is cheaper.

Poptin

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Copy the API key and the list API ID into the popup’s Email and Integrations settings. Poptin documents sending name, email address, phone and message. The list ID identifies the destination, so a copied client campaign needs its own settings checked.

Campaign Monitor connection
Editor capabilityWhat it does
Single choiceThe inspected field offers Radio and Single-select display modes, with editable option labels and values. This confirms one selected answer; it does not establish a scored quiz or rating scale.
Email double opt-inChoose a double opt-in setting for the popup or inherit the account setting.
Phone fieldCollect a phone number in a dedicated contact field.
Free textCollect a written response with the Message field.
Consent checkboxAdd an Email Consent checkbox alongside the signup fields.
Hidden fieldsSet an input field to Hidden instead of displaying it to visitors.
Email captureCollect email addresses through signup forms and pass new contacts to the connected mailing list.

Papa’s take

Unbranded popup campaigns with a practical visitor allowance. Email bundles are separate.

Personizely

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Authorize Campaign Monitor in the account integration settings, then select the list in the widget’s subscription form action. New subscribers are added to that list. Confirm the selected client and list for each widget when an agency manages several accounts.

Adds widget A/B testing and personalization; Essential has a different testing scope.

Sleeknote

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Enter the Campaign Monitor API key and list ID at the campaign’s integration step. Map form inputs to Campaign Monitor fields; the additional options also accept custom data. This route supports multistep campaigns when the answers need to stay attached to one subscriber.

Papa’s take

Core covers campaigns and testing; buy the Games package only if you need it. Pricing says monthly visitors, but the cookie documentation ties billing to sessions separated by 30 minutes. Confirm the counting rule before choosing a traffic tier.

ConvertFlow

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Connect the Campaign Monitor API key and client ID. ConvertFlow retrieves lists and custom fields for that client. Set the submission action and field mapping so a campaign answer reaches the subscriber on the intended list.

Hidden fieldsHidden fields can carry extra values; field settings include prefilled values and URL-parameter mapping.
Email captureThe editor provides an Email field, prefilling and submission actions. Contacts can pass to a connected newsletter service or CRM.

Papa’s take

For teams that need funnel A/B testing and conditional recommendations; simple lead capture can use a lower tier. Free is for building and previewing; going live requires a paid website plan. Integrations, validation and AI also consume a separate action allowance.

Poper

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Supply a Campaign Monitor API key and client ID in the Poper integration. Select the destination list and review field mapping before saving the popup. The guide says lists from multiple brands can appear, making the list choice especially important for agencies.

Free textStandalone forms and surveys offer Short Text and Long Text fields for written answers.
Single choiceDropdown and Radio controls are available in the popup, form and survey editors.
Multiple choiceThe form and survey logic library offers a Checkbox Group for multiple choices.

Pro adds tests, games and integrations. The inspected monthly price is a promotion; confirm the traffic definition and ongoing rate before paying.

Adoric

Connection to Campaign Monitor

In the Classic form’s Campaign Monitor settings, enter the API key and client ID. Choose a list and the fields to transfer. A successful connection identifies the client; inspect the subscriber on the specific list used by that form.

Classic plan summaries and the in-account feature matrix disagree on tier access. Shopify app pricing is a different offer.

OptinMonster

Connection to Campaign Monitor

Add Campaign Monitor to the OptinMonster campaign and select the intended subscriber list. Inspect the subscriber there before investigating a missing welcome email. Confirmation and repeat submissions can make the number of new subscribers smaller than the recorded form conversions.

How the connection changes the workflow

Example setups using the connections described above.

Clone a working form for a second brand

Copy the visual design, then have a colleague select the new brand’s list using the client name and list ID. Use an email address unique to this test. Open both clients and make sure only the intended list gained the subscriber.

Poptin takes the list API ID directly. Poper documents retrieving lists from multiple brands and selecting one before field mapping. Those interfaces look different, but the test ends in the same place: a real subscriber on the second brand’s list with that brand’s field values.

Poptin reviewPoper review

A returning attendee asks for another invitation

Suppose a former attendee unsubscribed from the monthly events newsletter and now requests the programme for a single event. Decide how you will fulfil that request and whether the form asks separately about future marketing. The newsletter’s current subscriber status matters even if the person submits again.

Use a controlled address with the same starting status. Inspect the record after submission, including its stored event preference. Campaign Monitor exposes a resubscription choice in its API; a connector’s handling needs checking before using repeat submissions as a growth metric.

Head-to-head comparisons for Campaign Monitor users

These comparisons cover the popup tools as a whole. Use them to compare forms, targeting and costs alongside the connection details above.

Poptin vs Sleeknote

Compare a form with a short set of documented fields against a multistep campaign with a configurable field map.

ConvertFlow vs Personizely

Compare the two campaign platforms for an agency working across several client lists.

Poptin vs Poper

For an agency copying a signup between clients, compare a form that takes the list API ID with a popup that also asks for the client ID and maps answers.

Poptin vs OptiMonk

Compare a signup that needs only standard contact details with one that must identify the offer on the Campaign Monitor subscriber record.

OptinMonster vs Sleeknote

If an agency runs several client campaigns, compare site allowances and form options after checking the list ID and fields for each client.

Check the whole journey before launch

Use a small test campaign with addresses you control. Check the receiving record and the follow-up, not only the popup’s success message.

  1. Match the selected client and list with the campaign brief.
  2. Verify that a copied popup sends its test signup only to the new destination.
  3. Inspect a custom-field answer on the receiving subscriber.
  4. Repeat with a previously unsubscribed test address and inspect its status.
  5. Check the first email and the audience count after confirmation.

Common questions

Which identifier does Poptin need?

Its setup asks for the Campaign Monitor API key and the target list’s API ID. Adoric Classic and ConvertFlow document a client ID as part of their own connection settings.

Can a multistep popup send several answers?

Sleeknote documents multistep compatibility and field mapping. Prepare the fields on the correct Campaign Monitor list and inspect all answers after the final step.

Is consent to tracking the same as an active subscription?

Campaign Monitor handles these as distinct subscriber properties. Verify each independently when a popup collects a preference that the sending team plans to use.
